We've just published a page of Christmas party dresses as recommended by a few very stylish bloggers.

If you've seen or bought any lovely party dresses or outfits, please share them on this thread. tchsmile

Well, back to the OP, I thought all the outfits shown were very uninspiring and I wouldn’t be seen dead in any of them. tchgrin

Why ever would anybody want to be flippant on a thread about party frocks for Christmas.

Go and lie down in a dark room immediately and come back when you are ready to say sorry.

Urmstongran Mon 26-Nov-18 09:55:34

Don’t you just love how a thread on here can morph into something entirely different? The joys of GN indeed!

Urmstongran Mon 26-Nov-18 09:53:51

Ah well MOnica in the words of the late great Morecambe & Wise ‘not a lot of people know that!’. I’m not old enough to recall the wit and wisdom of Kenneth Young. I assume he was a comedian? I was using it in it’s dictionary definition - being unaware of any humorous take! Now GabriellaG might think I was being flippant. I wasn’t! ..... oh dear I think I’ll stop digging .... ?

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-18 09:50:44

Sorry, M0nica, I don't mean to be patronising. It's a reflex on my part and usually I can restrain myself from making corrections. blush

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-18 09:44:52

I think you mean Michael Young, father of the egregious Toby Young!

M0nica Mon 26-Nov-18 09:19:43

When Kenneth Young coined the word 'Meritocracy' it was meant to be derogatory word, not aspirational.

Dear Galen
I apologise if my comment ruffled a few feathers, it was a side-eye joke from earlier in the thread.
As a 74yrs old (in March) retired lawyer, maybe I feel a teensy tiny bit jealous as I'm certainly not matronly (reserved, dignified) and could never get away with wearing your lovely evening dress.
The fact that you made the effort to stand for the photo says much about your propriety and stoicism.
Very best wishes
Gabriella

Well GabriellaG I’ll won’t be bobbing any curtsies then! Joking apart, sounds as though you’ve had a strong work ethic all your life and it’s paid off, which is admirable. Meritocracy rules!

MawBroon Mon 26-Nov-18 07:00:30

“Class” too I would say.

MiceElf Mon 26-Nov-18 06:40:38

Galen and Bella, such a beautiful picture. Grace, elegance and style.
An example to be followed.

Galen Mon 26-Nov-18 00:02:17

Gabriella at 74 and a retired Doctor I think I’m allowed to look matronly!
I equate that description with dignified and reserved!
I would also point out that as I’m very disabled, it took me considerable effort to stand and pose for that picture!

The Fifth Amendment gives criminal defendants the right to refuse to testify at trial. No person “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself,” according to the U.S. Constitution.22 May 2017

Well not the kindest of comments GabriellaG but hardly criminal.

GabriellaG Sun 25-Nov-18 21:50:38

I'm taking the 5th wink

GabriellaG Sun 25-Nov-18 21:49:30

grin

PECS Sun 25-Nov-18 21:45:10

Lisagran Sun 25-Nov-18 21:35:02

Ooh, not a very nice comment shock

GabriellaG Sun 25-Nov-18 21:30:53

PECS Sun 25-Nov-18 18:27:36

Galen Sun 25-Nov-18 17:58:32

This is the dress I wore last xmas. I’m with my friend Bella I’m the one in the dark blue

Lisagran Sun 25-Nov-18 17:33:46

This is a great thread - making me laugh! ( Collects provisions - wine cupcake - and waits for next episode.... grin )

MawBroon Sun 25-Nov-18 17:32:01

Or even “matronly” ???

oldbatty Sun 25-Nov-18 17:31:32

Cheers lemon! Thanks for that.

lemongrove Sun 25-Nov-18 17:28:09

Velvet is lovely, but you need to be careful, a velvet jacket and ruffled shirt looked great on a young Marianne Faithful,
But on a mature dumpy woman ( eg. Me) look more Austin
Powers.
