Would you wear dungarees?

I went into the Gap Outlet store near me today, they had mid blue denim dungarees at 50% off- so around £25. I tried them on and loved them - really comfy - great for gardening and general chores I thought, I pictured myself wearing them with a breton t shirt and white pumps. I ended up not buying them as I was unsure whether they were appropriate - I'm slim and fairly tall btw, so not a tweedledum look, - question is - can a gran wear denim dungarees or are they only suitable for toddlers?

I used to wear dungarees in my youth.

I don't think they look good on my women but if you have the figure and they are comfy, why not suzied?

They are a bit like the dreaded onesie though, or a swimming costume, in that going to the loo means you have to undo your top straps and peel them down. That would annoy me now.

lazigirl not at all! Looking old is fine!
I was once walking behind the petite Kate O'Mara and thought I was behind a 20 something from clothes, footwear , hair style. As she turned around it was a bit of a surprise to see it was a woman of significantly more years! Her tan & strong use of make up etc. drew attention to her face.

I was jealous not to be able to look 20 years younger!

Maw, you always make me laugh, that's brilliant.
I couldn't wear them, I'm 5' 3" and size 14 on a good day.

For goodness' sake ladeez: wear what you like. My only rule is don't try to "do sexy" over the age of seventy. Keep your wrinkled cleavage under cover perleasse - but nowt wrong with dungarees.

No....but then, neither would I wear hotpants, and I used to wear them back in the day grin

I’d look like a Minion!

I do. I could not care less. A fine garment

A few comments on here regarding plumbers in white dungarees some of which are quite contradictory; our plumber is on his way so I shall pay particular attention to his attire and update later!

I'm on the look out for a pair for gardening, the only ones I've seen so far are white and not at all practical for the garden. Certainly wouldn't wear them for socialising etc as I'm way too short and a little round ?. But ladies, if you've got the figure for dungarees then go for it!

Lazigirl Mon 25-Feb-19 09:17:26

Oh dear! Is it frightening the horses to look old sad

MawBroon Mon 25-Feb-19 08:39:44

Isn’t that what the French call “1662”?
16 from the back and 62 from the front? grin

PECS Mon 25-Feb-19 08:37:29

Sometimes I see people walking in front of me who , from the style of dress/ hair etc. appear to ne 45 or under. when I see their faces they are obviously a good 20 - 25 years older. It is always a bit of a shock & almost exaggerates age. It is an art to be able to dress to suit yourself & not to frighten the horses!

I have a female plumber who wears a fuchsia pink boilersuit with her name in rhinestones on the back.

Saggi
I don't know where you live but in the North and South of the UK,
plumbers do not wear white overalls. Painters and decorators do almost
always wear white overalls.
I've never ever seen a plumber in overalls unless it's a company uniform and then, they are usually navy blue.

I don't see what difference age makes! If you feel comfy in them wear them! I'm nearly 61, 5ft 1" with waist length hair, haven't worn make up for decades, don't follow fashion, but still wear brightly coloured clothes/shoes.

Litlmissbuttons Sun 24-Feb-19 19:52:39

JackyB - Where do you get the blue twill ones please? I've been looking for some to wear to work.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 24-Feb-19 19:49:47

Yes I feel I am now slim enough to wear them but only denim ones and I would need he right hair style to go with it.

Litlmissbuttons Sun 24-Feb-19 19:48:33

Yes! I used to wear canvas type dungarees with a pair of Kicker boots in the late 70's, and again in the early 80's when I bought a maternity pair. I also wore a cropped pair ( the same ones that Diana wore in the 80's ) a few years later, with a pair of wedged espadrilles.

Mumble2 Sun 24-Feb-19 19:29:57

Definitely if they are comfy why not. There will be no builders bum (gardeners bum) issues.Very practical I think you can wear them at any age whatever your shape.

Maggiemaybe Sun 24-Feb-19 18:38:09

True, Lazigirl. I was 8 stone wet through in those days. And now I’m.......not. sad. Recycling bin it is then!

Kim19 Sun 24-Feb-19 18:33:37

My research mostly reveals blue denim. Think I'll wait in hope that brighter colours like emerald or red appear.

Lazigirl Sun 24-Feb-19 18:03:51

Not many of us are the same size as they were in the hot pants era Maggie sad but if you are..........

annifrance Sun 24-Feb-19 18:02:35

Never did, never would. Would worry about getting them off in time for a wee!

Maggiemaybe Sun 24-Feb-19 17:57:14

if you wore a certain fashion the first time around then you’re too old to rock the look the second time when it’s back in fashion!
I guess I should ditch the purple panne velvet hot pants then. sad
