Who likes a man with facial hair?

I just don't like the current trend for beards or designer stubble on men of all ages. Unless very neatly clipped I find them ageing, scruffy and unclean-looking - even on George Clooney! What are your views?

My DH and both my DSs have beards - DH ever since I've known him (41 going on 42 years now!) and they all keep them neat and tidy. The trend for longer beards on 'hipster' types is allied with good grooming. I don't think we have a say - do our men tell us how to wear or style our hair? How would we react if they did!? Not well I suspect so if they want a beard, and keep it neat then fine

I loathe middle aged and older men who have a scraggly pony tail!! I long to get a pair of scissors to snip it off!

DH has a well-kept moustache and I wouldn't want him to shave it off. I'm kept far too busy these days trying to control l my own!

I am too old to appreciate designer stubble, it just looks to me as if the man got up too late to shave

Carolpaint, razors have been found by archaeologists in Bronze age settlements, so shaving or not has been in and out of fashion for most of mankind's documented history.

The Romans certainly regarded unshaven men with long hair and beards as barbarians and so did the Greeks, but the word does not have anything to do with beards but meant stammering, To the Ancient Greeks people who spoke other languages apparently seemed to be stammering.

The Mosaic law forbids men to shave their beards, nowadays only the ultra- Orthodox Jews obey the prohibition.

I'm not keen on beards but I quite like designer stubble. As for Dick Strawbridge, his makes me want to vomit!
Good job we're all different grin

In my 20s I had several boyfriends with beards and moustaches. I rather liked them! My exH shaved off his beard the day we got married - it was only a small goatee anyway - but kept his toothbrush moustache which I never really liked, just got used to it.

Hubby had a beard before I met him over 50 years ago and still has it.
It is neat and tidy.

Thank you, Annaram1 for your kind comments about my DH.
Reading through the replies has brought to mind something said by my late mother when I was 11. She was explaining about periods and I asked,
“Well, if girls have to put up with all that, what happens to boys?”
She thought for a moment then said,
“They have to shave!”
I thought to myself,
“Not much by comparison and they can always grow a beard!”

A little bit of stubble is nice, but not a full beard. I must say i do like body hair.

My DH has a neatly shaved beard and 'tash, which looks ok to me. He once had to shave them off and he looked really odd - he really doesn't suit the clean shaven look. I have to say I dislike the fashion for these big bushy beards and short hair, though. Looks quite odd to me; and long straggly hair with long straggly beards look equally revolting too. Yuk.
Good thing we don't all like the same thing, I suppose.

Never. Hate it.

Marmight Wed 24-Apr-19 21:41:55

Not too keen. I hate it when stray bits of food nestle in unkempt beards! Luckily late DH only tried once to grow one and it was a disaster - all patchy ?. My 3 sons in law all have beards.....

My husband has always had a beard, well almost always! He went off to get a haircut one day, and came back into where we were working, I said, oh I’m so sorry I thought you were my husband! Then the penny dropped and I literally screamed! I couldn’t bear it, he just didn’t look anything like himself!

Now this.... yes!

Like kittylester, I do. And sarahcyn, most of us don’t kiss the beard!

My ex had one .... it hid a weak chin. Don't like the current trend. They just look scruffy (lazy) and what's underneath (or in it)? Still like a hairy chest though!!

Long ago I had one much-loved boyfriend with a moustache but, otherwise, have not really been attracted to hairy-faced men. However, I do take a secret delight in bald men with beards who look as if they have their heads on upside down.
