I'm not a particular fan of Primark but for anyone who is, the world's biggest one has opened in Birmingham. It is huge and contains a beauty salon, a barber's shop and two cafes smile

My beloved onesie was in the Primark sale and has been going strong for years. I have also had some very good leather gloves. I did once buy a nightshirt and when I got it home it looked a bit strange. One side of the front was cut for a round neck and the other side for a v neck!

I am surprised so many people have found long lasting items in Primark. I usually find things don't last long, especially t-shirts which go out of shape. Things are often skimpy sized as well and they have loads of size 4 to 6 women's which I can't believe fit many women. However, I do buy a lot for my grandchildren there.
I think I have to stop shopping there as, having developed cataracts, this causes glare problems which gives me migraine and Primark is the worst offender for glary lights.

I find some of the underwear is pretty and washes well. The Primark where I live has moved to the old BHS so is much larger and is kept tidier. I hated walking over so many clothes on the floor.

We have a local Primark and a very large store in Church Street Liverpool which has about 4 floors in total.
I have bought every day knickers in the packs of 3 the ones that stretch and hold in all the wobbly bits they are really good quality I always buy a pack when I go shopping there.
My DD buys my DGSs school trousers there and with him being a rough and tumble type of boy the way he puts the knees through means she can afford to replace them as necessary.I also love their best quality towels I have had a set of black towels for quite a few years and they have never faded and kept their fluffiness after all this time.

All the hairdressers at my salon wear Primark. Because it is so cheap they don't need to worry about chemical stains from products and they all look trendy and fantastic! Mind you, they are all stick thin!

Beammeupscottie Thu 25-Apr-19 11:25:21

Unfortunately, cheap clothes end up in the bin at a faster rate. I am trying not to buy so much and wear it for longer. That, and reducing my use of wipes and straws is my pathetic bit to save the Planet.

I am a bit of a fan of primark. Especially if I have an occasion to go to. I am quite tall and often awkward to fit as well especially off the peg, but I can v often found just what I want in Primark and v cheaply well within my budget. Probs second I would say M&S, but Primark is my first choice of store

blondenana Sun 28-Apr-19 10:09:57

We dont have a Primark here, i wish we did, never been in one as the nearest is about 50 miles away
Talking of slave labour though, what about M&S all their clothes seem to be made in Bangladesh, surely it must be the same

I only buy reading glasses there. I’ve got lots.
What Chewbacca says of other stores is true. I’ve heard that a much-loved, old-established High Street store uses the same manufacturers, therefore sweat shops, as Primark but for a much higher mark-up.

EllanVannin Sun 28-Apr-19 12:32:00

A bit of a come-down from the closure of our M&S shop some years ago and to say I was upset about it is an understatement. Shops like these discourage a lot of people----it did me, anyway as all I do is walk through it to get to the other side of the shopping area.
It doesn't exactly shout quality.Aldi and Lidl affect me in the same way. Rubbish shops !!

babsbabsbabs Sun 28-Apr-19 12:38:40

Primark doesn't use 'sweatshops', workshops have to adhere to a strict code of conduct. I know all sorts of people who shop at Primark and is invaluable if you are on a budget.

sodapop Sun 28-Apr-19 12:45:24

Yes Primark is good for young people who don't want to keep things long. I can see why its so popular. I just can't stand the jumble and of course I am too fat slightly large for their clothes.
Willow was Meadowhell a typo or a comment in the shopping experience there. Made me chuckle.

Lazigirl Sun 28-Apr-19 13:25:02

I can understand why young ones buy from shops where they can get fashionable, affordable clothing. No doubt I did the same when younger, but now I think twice about what I buy, and try to buy decent quality and keep things much longer. Apparently those in the UK buy far more clothes than other European countries, much of it discarded quickly or hangs unused in wardrobes, and fast fashion is reported to have a carbon footprint second only to oil. Makes you think because it's our grandchildrens futures we are sabotaging. Sorry if it sounds preachy but I do feel strongly about it.

Mossfarr Sun 28-Apr-19 13:33:52

I loathe Primark, I have to take a deep breath before I enter - its messy, always really busy and too much rubbish to wade through before finding anything decent. I also hate the fact that you have to walk across each floor to follow the 'down' escalator. Having said that, I do shop in there for my baby granddaughter. The basics such as socks, bodysuits, Babygro's etc are excellent value and well made. No point in paying more for something they grow out of so quickly.

I love Primark.......bought a beautiful grey-blue suit from there, for my divorce hearing. Looked so good, my ex told my daughter 'if she can afford to dress like that, she doesn't need my money ' ...haha

MamaCaz Sun 28-Apr-19 13:43:43

I've bought a few things from Primark over the last six months, and had problems with nearly all of them:
-Pyjama bottoms that started coming apart at the seams after a few wears.
-A pack of knickers (4 pairs) in which two pairs fitted while two were too small, even though they were all supposedly the same size.
-A pair of leggings which I have worn for the first time this week and which already need repairing on one seam (the slim part of my leg, so I've not overstretched them!)

Kaggi60 Sun 28-Apr-19 13:51:47

I had not been in Primark for ages but went in last week to look brought a load of nice things. My daughter sometimes. have new things from there and rubbish after a couple of weeks the material is no good.

HildaW Sun 28-Apr-19 17:03:36

Its appalling 'disposable' fashion that I refuse to encourage.

GabriellaG54 Sun 28-Apr-19 17:54:32

What a laugh. Did it make you smile when your daughter repeated it? grin

GabriellaG54 Sun 28-Apr-19 18:08:18

I'm 74 yrs old and an 18 top and 16 bottom half. I buy plenty of clothes from Primark which fit me and have never ever had anything rip or separate. I don't buy bras as they don't do my size.
Their leggings and camis are unbelievably cheap and their towels flannels and bathmats are unbelievable value.
I do also shop a lot at M&S and H&M.
I used to buy a lot from eBay but now, not so much.
I really need to sell lots of stuff I no longer use or wear. It's just the thought of sorting and taking photos and writing blurb that puts me off.

rubysong Sun 28-Apr-19 19:42:42

M &S are not what they used to be. DH recently bought jeans there and they soon looked worn. Last evening we were at a party in the village, he bent down to pick up something from the floor and they split down the back from waistband to crotch. Very dramatic! Luckily we were only a few minutes from home so he came home to change. They were surprisingly cheap but he still expected them to last more than a couple of months. If we lived near we would take them back but it would cost more than they are worth.
My clothes are all good quality because, apart from underwear, nearly everything comes from charity shops.

rafichagran Sun 28-Apr-19 20:00:01

No, I do not like Primark, I find a lot of the clothes do not look nice at all. They look quite cheap, which is what they are. Saying that, my ex Mother in law was wearing Primark pyjamas right up until she died. She thought the price and quality were unbeatable.

PamelaJ1 Mon 29-Apr-19 13:32:08

I'm still amazed that so many of you haven't caught on to the fact that buying a lot of cheap clothes is contributing hugely to pollution round the world.
I'm not putting all the blame on Primark but the attitude of pile them high sell them cheap is so detrimental to world health.
For those who will tell me that some people can't afford more expensive clothes, as I'm sure you will!
If £5 buys a garment that is thrown away after 7 wears (the average apparently according to a Victoria Darbyshire programme) but £10 buys one that will be worn for 14. then that's a win for the planet and costs no more in the long run.

HildaW Mon 29-Apr-19 13:41:06

Totally agree PamelaJl. Its price per wear that's important.
Something well made, that washes well and keeps its shape, and in my case, is not wildly fashionable, will be far better for all.

Lazigirl Mon 29-Apr-19 17:49:05

Completely agree PamelaJ and HildaW.
