'Bigs' or 'smalls'?

For years, I have worn high leg briefs from M and S. Just recently they have started to annoy me so I decided to try full briefs. I wish I'd done it years ago- they are sooo comfy. Not exactly sexy to look at but frankly who cares? Not me!
Has anyone else done similar? Just wondering.
I remember when my MIL was about my age( early 60's) and she stayed with us as we lived away (hence why I did her washing) and she laughed about her 'bigs' next to my 'smalls'- how the years roll round and now its me with the 'bigs' and my DIL with the (skimpy) 'smalls'!

*inishowen*My grandmother wore directoire knickers too. My father once blew up a pair of water wings and popped them inside when they were in the washing line.We grandchildren thought that was hilarious.

I still wear them, very comfortable.

Frankly, after coming across thongs in my dirty linen basket
Gabriella; Frankly, I'd be shocked too! You wouldn't know what they've trodden in! confused

Frankly, after coming across thongs in my dirty linen basket when youngest daughter lived at home, they looked just like umbilical cords, twisted, unsexy and unlovely. Ugh!

Nothing wrong with the Asda packs of 4 for £4.50. I throw a pack in my trolley nearly every time I shop there. Dozens of packs unopened in my drawer. Like you Floradora I don't need any more.

GabriellaG54 Sat 11-May-19 11:31:07

I have every style except thongs and my choice of underwear depends on what clothes I plan to wear.

Always gone for bigs myself. My mother always bought new knickers when she was going on holiday . I have so many I do not need to buy more .

About 4 years ago I went into big knickers... sloggi. Then I discovered M & S pants on line. Full brief, beautifully light and stretchy. Made of Modal. Seconds but I have yet to find a flaw, label is snipped. They are 5 pairs for about £9. So comfy and so much cheaper than Sloggi. I think it was eBay. But possibly Amazon.

I never got the whole commando thing either - to me it just means chafing and a lot of washing grin

It came out on GMB the other week that Richard Madely has gone commando for years - I do wonder about his suit cleaning bills confused

Following on from Phoenix's thong incident I had one of my own some years ago on a WI bus trip. Stopping at the services the thong I was wearing snapped when I went to the loo. Frantically searched for a safety pin but couldn't find anything so had to just hope for the best under my trousers. We'd gone to visit a nunnery but on the way up the street I spied a market stall selling underwear and found a replacement thong with a lovely diamonte butterfly on it which saved the day and was the most comfortable one I'd ever had. I still have it but it but sadly it no longer fits sad

Big "apple-catcher" pants for me. If they don't cover up to my belly button I'm not happy!

Rufus2 Thu 09-May-19 12:49:10

Commando?
Breeze; Er! No thanks! Due to my sheltered upbringing I'd no idea what you meant until I asked at our Over 80s comp. club this morning and boy (!); did they laugh! Reminiscent of our "thong" confusion of not long ago!
As you may recall, OZ is in the Southern Hemi. and about to go into Winter, whereas you are looking forward to another blazing summer. envyConsequently there is a high chance that "Commando" could induce shrinkage problems (re; Seinfeld's George's problem), so I'll stick with my big tartan boxer shorts and woolly Snuggles, leaving the sporran till later as back-up! Thanks for the thought! grin

Bigs for me! Smalls feel as if they're constantly slipping off.... For years I wore Sloggis then a couple of years ago I discovered these in Target Australia. Wouldn't wear anything else now. They're stretchy so fit round all the bendy bits very neatly, wash well and dry quickly and come in a variety of coloured pairs. I came home last time with 8 packs shock www.target.com.au/p/2-pack-matte-shine-full-briefs/62030168

If I'm wearing light summer trousers I wear natural/nude pants. If my top is dark I wear a bra that matches that. Wearing matching underwear doesn't always work.

Kittye Wed 08-May-19 18:02:21

Scribbles Im the same as you , don’t need to be matching sets but must be same colour ?

Scribbles Wed 08-May-19 17:56:08

SisterAct, I've rarely had matching 'sets' of underwear but my pants and bra/vest top/camisole or whatever are always the same colour, usually white or black. I couldn't bear the thought of odd colours top and bottom!

JoJo58 Wed 08-May-19 16:31:38

Like 'MiniMoon' I wear the shorts type knicker very comfy and no vpl, have to buy online from M & S as they don't do them instore but you normally get them on the 3 for 2.

DanniRae Wed 08-May-19 09:52:58

Hi SisterAct although I've said above that I like pretty, midi pants I am not bothered about matching underwear grin

David1968 Wed 08-May-19 08:43:16

I asked DH, who says he isn't bothered about the undies; in his view it's what's underneath that counts! (I'm paraphrasing here - in an attempt to be decorous!)

SisterAct Wed 08-May-19 08:17:07

Dare I admit Hubby said yesterday. I really think you need some new pants.

Now not sure what to buy but may try sloggi !

Sis says u must always wear matching bra. What do people think ?

DanniRae Wed 08-May-19 07:56:19

Oh no big pants for me! M and S do lovely midi ones - all silky with a bit of lace. Yes they do roll down under my tummy sometimes (just checked and in the right place at the moment!) but I just could not wear big pants shock

llizzie2 Wed 08-May-19 00:44:59

The only really comfortable to wear are men's boxer shorts and if they made them without buttons that would be so much the better. Women's briefs are really designed for women menstruating to accommodate sanitary products. They cut into my groin and as I had my insides removed when I was 35 I had no need of them. For awhile, the wide lace around the legs were OK but I only discovered just how comfortable men's boxers were when 15 years into my second marriage when I bought boxers too small for my husband and wore them myself. I have not found anything more comfortable.

BlueSapphire Tue 07-May-19 21:26:49

Full briefs, M&S or Sainsbury's. They stay up and don't roll down over my tummy! Have done the years of skimpy lacy 'panties', and have called time.

etheltbags1 Tue 07-May-19 20:44:48

I like my big bloomers

phoenix Tue 07-May-19 20:32:59

Paperbackwriter I do hope that your friend was wearing a skirt and no tights at the time, otherwise she would have had to do a pretty serious amount of disrobing!

(Its pretty easy to remove a bra without removing your t shirt/blouse/jumper/sweatshirt etc, but knickers, if wearing tights or trousers....................)
