You were meant to keep a hankie in the pocket, but by the late 1950s I think most teachers would have bitten our heads off, if we had dived into our top pants during class!

Never in my younger days was it for comfort more what was in fashion.My favourites were the all in one 'teddy'. Especially those in 'silk'
Now its a pack of Tesco's cotton briefs.

I to have now opted for big knickers,I wear Sloggis they don't have VPL either.Our school knickers were navy blue,very thick and hot,they were supposed to protect you modesty when wearing divided skirts for sports!

I can't wear bikini briefs with trousers - the side seams always seem itchy and scratchy so I have about half a dozen pairs of 'trouser knickers' - silky fabric and waist high that save me from a lot of wriggling about in discomfort. Otherwise I do like high leg bikini style. The things we tell each other on this site - my mother would have apoplexy!

I buy my knickers from Marks & Spencer. Proper knickers....very pretty with lace. 3 pairs for ever bra. Do like knickers to come up to my waist.

Ellen....I've often talked about 'all is safely gathered in' pants but hadn't heard the term 'harvest festival' knickers. ?

I remember my daughter as a tiny girl, crying bitterly that she wanted to wear "big bum knickers" when I had put out a bikini style for her to wear.

I have bought my high leg briefs from Victorias Secret for years, they suit me, are very comfortable and come in all sorts of lovely colours they have a huge assortment,I always buy on offer when you get five pairs for I think £25, they wear well and last for ages.

Never really left the big pants brigade and hate 'low rise' trousers.

It just seems really strange nowadays, and yet its not so long ago.

We had knickers with pockets because we wore them for PE and needed a hanky.

OMG - I thought that was only me. People look at me strange when I tell them I did that - in the' 60s no less! (Waterloo Park Grammar School for Girls)

Wasn't there a thread about "knickers", not that long ago ago? I stated then that I am an advocate of "Bridget Jones' big knickers" - I think that Sloggis are very good. And in my experience, most men really don't care what knickers you wear..... (DH agrees!)

I am always staggered to see my DD's washing line with her dental floss knickers. Apparently her man does like them but each to their own

Midis for me, black white and nude. For all eventualities. Not that there are many of those nowadays...

I have always bought my knickers from M&S & have gradually over the years moved on from bikini to midis,I find them comfortable & they do some with lace on too.

I am another Sloggi fan. They last so long.

I like Sloggi hi-leg midi white.. but if vpl is going to be an issue then I trawl M&S.
As another poster mentioned, I too wear nude, blush or white bras under light coloured tops but darker ones under dark tops so knickers don't always match.
Anyway, my pants get washed after every wear but bras not so often. That means I can't always wear the matching set.
Most men actually prefer women to wear white knickers, no thongs, despite what they allegedly say in polls.

I'm just wondering whether the fact that I wore such all enveloping knickers at school, is why I now like the comfort of the "all is gathered in" type.
(or is it the fact that my behind will no longer fit into the skimpies)?
