I wouldn't be seen dead wearing XXXX .... and why?

.....a miniskirt, pair of shorts, thong, false nails...
Short items of clothing on my body would freak everyone out.
Thongs make me cringe with imagined discomfort and false nails are pointless on a muckworm like me who enjoys getting her hands grubby.

Anyone else?

The one advantage about losing my youthful pretty is I have few choices about what to wear and this saves time and hanging space.

GinnyHendricks Thu 08-Aug-19 13:25:05

Sportswear, polo necks (make me look all bosom)

Riverwalk Thu 08-Aug-19 14:24:43

Cold-shoulder tops
Anything with an anchor motif
Spaghetti straps with bra straps showing

MissAdventure Thu 08-Aug-19 15:06:28

I wouldn't be seen dead wearing a burkha.

Davida1968 Thu 08-Aug-19 15:10:59

High heels -these are absolutely off the agenda for me. I have "nice" feet - I think it's because I've never worn heels! (An elderly neighbour totters about in spiky heels - truly I do not know how she does it....)

ninathenana Thu 08-Aug-19 15:56:23

Trousers or leggings except in winter under a long coat. Even with a long top I just look daft as my legs are too short.
I've never worn high heels. I do wear a small block heel for evenings.
Never had the figure for a mini skirt even as a teen.
Roll neck jumper is a definite no, hate anything up round my chin.
I would have false nails but my friends experience put me off. My nails are usually fairly long and I manage to do every thing fine.

Daisymae Thu 08-Aug-19 16:28:18

Oh mini skirts! I wore them first time around and I was probably pushing it then.blush

EllanVannin Thu 08-Aug-19 18:26:07

I'm quite the one for keeping my body covered so nothing low-cut or revealing but I do like the sound of ruffles and furbelows the Victorian/Edwardian type of coverall clothing.

I've nearly always worn long nails as they grow so strong, quickly, so I file them then polish with whatever colour springs to mind or to match the colour I wear in clothes.

Never wore mini skirts my legs were too thin ( pipe-cleaners )Nor a bikini either, or shorts. I was self-conscious with my Long Tall Sally figure.
Trousers or long skirts for me and semi-flat shoes/sandals.

My 'I wouldn't be seen dead wearing...' was really what I'd not feel comfortable wearing, or enjoy wearing, rather than dictating what others should or shouldn't wear - which is none of my business (or anyone else's except the wearer!)

I've just returned from the Green Gathering festival and there was a vast range of dress/costume/garb, including a few wearing their birthday suits. I loved seeing what everyone was wearing and how they express themselves in dress, even if what was being worn wasn't 'me'.
The best thing for me was not feeling judged about what I dressed in. I felt completely comfortable and good in whatever I put on, and I can't say that's necessarily the case here in Darkest Surrey!

No mini skirts, leather trousers, high heels (but never did), tight tops, or anything which shows my tummy or bum.
I have very strong nails and keep them quite long but not keen on nail varnish.

I am 70 and still wear above the knee skirt (not very much above the knee). My legs have always been my best feature and probably still are, although the rest of me has gone to pot. I'm not really overweight. I wear heels if I'm going from car to venue. Why not? Things I wouldn't wear are culottes, short tops, too low cut tops. I'm not giving up!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 09-Aug-19 10:09:15

I wouldn't wear dungarees or anything with a bib as they don't flatter anyone with a bosom.

The 'New Look' may have been pretty in its day but doesn't look so good on a short person so I'd give it a wide berth. I find the 1960's elongated silhouette easier to wear.

High heels, cropped anything, wide leg trousers, very thin straps and big floaty sleeves are not for me.

I avoid beige, I know some say it goes with everything but it makes me feel old. Also, anything a bit tight so that underwear can be seen through, prefer things that "skim" my attributes! ?

TerryM Fri 09-Aug-19 10:42:44

As a previous poster said... No crimplene.
I couldnt imagine worse knickers than thongs. No above knee skirts fat legs fat knees
Those are the ones that immediately come to mind

discodiva Fri 09-Aug-19 10:44:03

Totally agree with you Paddyann. Where what you like and what feels right for you and not what others think you should be wearing no matter what your age.

I'm 60 and still wear a bikini, shorts etc BUT I don't wear thongs anymore soooo uncomfortable!

Paperbackwriter Fri 09-Aug-19 10:46:01

MissAdventure - Strange comment: is anyone expecting you to wear a burkha?

The one thing I don't ever want to wear is a beige jacket or mac. I can think of few things more ageing. Grim.

Rowantree Fri 09-Aug-19 10:47:16

I've never had anything worth flaunting, apart from my large legs.

Lessismore Love the term 'dental floss'!

I wore stockings first time around and wouldn't want to give them another go.

jaylucy Fri 09-Aug-19 10:56:33

Ripped jeans/jeggings- especially the slim fitting ones - nobody wants to see my thunder thighs
Cropped tops- not flattering on my doughnut shaped body- shame a few more people don't think that way - every summer they come out and seeing someone's belly hanging out under the top is not pleasant!! (men and women!)
Any dress or skirt above the knee - scarred knee

Just wondering how people with long false nails manage in the bathroom?Do they wear special gloves?

optimist Fri 09-Aug-19 11:00:09

I think high heels are dreamt up by men (shoe designers) who want to put females at a disadvantage and I think they make women look like horses!

TrendyNannie6 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:02:27

I wouldn’t wear crocs mini skirts false nails thongs cos uncomfy high heels as I’m already 5ft 8. And wouldn’t be able to walk in them anyway. My nails are reasonable length always wear nail varnish n have toes painted. Not really into flouncy frilly clothes.love hats, do wear skinny jeggings n leggings maxi skirts dresses.love pvc skinny jeans. Really don’t bother about what others think to be honest.dont really show cleavage .im just me.wear what I want with confidence

grove1234 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:06:13

Love my heels on show now as works of art .

Jeanlizzie Fri 09-Aug-19 11:12:03

Ugg boots , those skirts or dresses that are longer at the front or back or leggings i envy people who can carry leggings off but for me def no no look like a badly stuffed sausage , and night clothes during the day

Lindylou57 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:12:51

No Leopard Print, Thongs or Sheer Blouses!

vivonce Fri 09-Aug-19 11:14:21

On Facebook yesterday there was a photo of Olivia de Havilland now aged 104, out on her daily cycle ride in a knee-length skirt and court shoes. I have yet to reach 80 and have given up my bicycle, court shoes and knee-length skirts.
