wearing make-up

I used to put on make-up, especially lipstick, eye shadow and mascara, before going to work in the morning. If we were going out at night I even had false eyelashes.
Then for the last 20 years or so everyone seems to have gone au naturel. But recently I've noticed more women, even my age, look as if they've started to make up again. Especially lipstick and foundation.
I don't think I could be bothered - what do you think?

I love make up, it’s my weakness.
I have watched some excellent YouTube tutorials so I can learn new techniques.
I’m brand loyal to Bare Minerals and use the odd Charlotte Tilbury product.
I marvel at how my face can be transformed from looking rather grim to quite acceptable in a few strokes of a kabuki brush?

Alexa, I discovered a product called Bring Back Brow shape sold by Look Fabulous Forever. You can google it, they do lots of products for mature women and have "how to" videos too. The eyebrow product worked wonders on my sparse, overplucked eyebrows. I'd really recommend it.

hmm trying to think back forty years

No, I didn't have much time for makeup.

annep1 Tue 27-Aug-19 23:03:42

GillT57 I agree. That's how I use it -makes me feel better and more confident.

What a difference a smile makes. Lovely Janeainsworth

Bully is the word that springs to mind. Not nice.

notanan2 Tue 27-Aug-19 21:01:00

What's the point in being so defensive?

annep1 Tue 27-Aug-19 20:56:14

What's the point in being rude?

notanan2 Tue 27-Aug-19 20:33:17

Great! No one is going to stop you???

GillT57 Tue 27-Aug-19 20:02:20

well I am happy with my understated make up notanan and I defy you to notice it, but hey ho, I don't like to see women of my age with a scrubbed face, no eyebrows and just generally grey looking, but we all have different ideas don't we!

notanan2 Tue 27-Aug-19 18:59:34

In your opinion notanan

Well gee, isnt this whole thread people's opinions?
Kinda the point of a chat forum no?

MissAdventure Tue 27-Aug-19 18:28:38

It doesn't really matter too much, unless anyone is forcing somebody else to be either caked in make up, or not allowing them to wear it.

Our faces are our own to do what we want with.

There is no right or wrong, just different preferences.

Hetty58 Tue 27-Aug-19 18:25:49

My friend admits to wearing too much - as she can't see very well without her glasses!

Minimal make up still looks like make up.

People who use it a lot see it less

GillT57 Tue 27-Aug-19 18:16:12

Yes but those of you who say that make up looks obvious and clown like are only noticing those wearing badly applied or inappropriate stuff. Most of us settle for a bit of enhancement rather than garish, a bit of tinted moisturiser or foundation, shaped neat eyebrows and some mascara to open the eyes. Not noticeable but just a little bit of colour

Hetty58 Tue 27-Aug-19 17:24:13

The problem is that a lot of women wear the same makeup and hairstyle that suited them about forty years ago. They don't seem to realise that they look like scary clowns!

Callistemon Tue 27-Aug-19 16:54:06

Lovely, janea!

My hair doesn't behave either Gonegirl
My eyes look worse with eye makeup too; some people can wear it but I can't.

Gonegirl Tue 27-Aug-19 16:23:36

Ok. If I wasn't on my desktop I might be thinking of putting up that being sick emoji now. hmm

Lazigirl Tue 27-Aug-19 16:09:43

Janeainsworth it's not the makeup, it's your lovely smile that makes the difference.

Fennel Tue 27-Aug-19 14:18:09

You've got a lovely smile Jane smile!
I think I'll start to wear lipstick again. Not too bright though.

DanniRae Tue 27-Aug-19 13:26:47

That's a lovely photo Jane! smile
