For those with a Sparks card this year's advent calendar is available to order from today.
For those of you who feel this is just an extravagance and not in the spirit of the season, please spare a thought for those of us who get pleasure from it and may not get much joy and good cheer at this time of year for all sorts of reasons.

These things are not exactly environmentally friendly, are they? Lots of packaging with all the little tubes and bottles. And it's such a con anyway - you're paying through the nose for what are not much more than samples in the hope that you might be tempted to buy the full size article later.

HootymcOwlFace,

Ha yes my daughter said you open them as no Mum is stopping you, she’s right. Yes I used to feel presents under the tree and guess what it was never got it right though. I got Superdrug’s last year although it wasn’t very good seemed to be discontinued lines and got about to day six then unwrapped them all. Haha.

I bought 2 as I did last year. Still haven't opened the second one from 2018. A real bargain if you spend the obligatory amount which enables you to make the purchase.
They have some fabulous homeware too.
M&S ?

I just received the Boots one but I have opened every single one and packed my goodies away, my bad grin

Albangirl14 Sat 26-Oct-19 13:46:22

Thanks annsixty for the tip. I went straight to the m and s site and my sparks card also gave me 20% off trousers I ordered alongside the advent calendar. Last year when I bought trousers they were too long and I took them back but of course kept the calendar so you don't have to spend £25 in order to buy one.

Brunette10 Sat 26-Oct-19 13:01:22

I am a Sparks member but have no offer of ordering the Calendar, I got one last year so don't want to be disappointed this year. How do you order in advance please?

redsue Sat 26-Oct-19 12:47:57

I ordered mine yesterday along with some nice jeans and top so i got the offer, I have bought it for myself for the past 3 years something to look forward to.

I’m conflicted this year, I love the Markies one but really fancy the l’occitane one this year .... decisions decisions

Sam17 Sat 26-Oct-19 12:33:51

Don’t often whinge, however: Given that we over forties struggle from time to time, and require certain meds, I went to Asda for tub of 75g aspirin, usually 80 pence. Now, a leap to £1.80. Can’t get an explanation. Exploitation?

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 12:30:26

I’m guessing that’s if you don’t have a card though.

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 12:28:53

It is there if you search beauty advent calendar on the M&S site but it’s not available till October 31st.

I love these and think they are great value. Had one for the last three years and only just finished some of the products from last year. Brilliant if you travel a lot and a great way of trying their products. Bought two full size products after trying them!

Can’t seem to find them on Sparks today though? Am I missing something?

Nannan2 Sat 26-Oct-19 12:03:58

I treat myself last year to m&s one, cheaper as id bought other items, but im afraid i was disappointed in it.certainly wouldn't have thought it worth full higher price!

Jaycee5 Sat 26-Oct-19 12:00:40

Paperchase are doing one this year that has had good reviews. I have never bought one before but it's worth thinking about. Nothing like treating yourself occasionally.

SueDonim Sat 26-Oct-19 11:51:02

I've always been vaguely disappointed by them. I suppose they're 'one size fits all' but they usually contain so many things I won't use that there's no point. I do give those items to my dds but it's a bit pointless to spend all that money, so I don't bother now.

Also, in this day and age of climate awareness, all that plastic trash from the containers doesn't sit well with me.

If it's your bag, though, enjoy!

Last year this made a great birthday present for my son's partner as her birthday is at the end of November. She loved it.

Oh dear, I have strayed into the luxury chocolates section.

It’s such a lovely box

Sarahmob Sat 26-Oct-19 11:29:52

My husband buys me a Yankee candle one every year, I so appreciate the candle each evening. Brings light to dark, dreary December

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 11:28:39

GrandmaKT yes I will as I know I do hate the dark December days so much it will cheer me every morning so I’ll wait?. I have to admit my son isn’t one for remembering birthdays etc but does surprise me out of the blue occasionally.

seacliff Sat 26-Oct-19 11:26:58

How thoughtful of him Tanith. What a lovely son.

I've never bought myself an Advent calendar, but I can see it's a treat to open a surprise present every day. Just to cheer yourself up a bit. ~

I started looking on Amazon to see what is available. I like OPI nail varnish, very occasionally. They have this limited edition Christmas set, but too much for me at £42. www.amazon.co.uk/OPI-Limited-Christmas-Collection-Polish/dp/B07VYL7YJ5/ref=pd_sbs_194_t_1/260-7714862-4842604?pf_rd_p=e44592b5-e56d-44c2-a4f9-dbdc09b29395&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=yoeA6&pf_rd_r=HTHG4HDKMVARJE0JMWW6&pd_rd_i=B07VYL7YJ5&pd_rd_w=0QHpX&tag=gransnetforum-21&refRID=HTHG4HDKMVARJE0JMWW6&pd_rd_r=d3f3ef53-d98f-4c21-ac03-ee357d9ede3e#moreAboutThisProduct

jenpax Sat 26-Oct-19 11:19:41

Do you have to have a Sparks card to get one? I don’t have one but would like to get them for my three DD

GrandmaKT Sat 26-Oct-19 11:18:27

What a thoughtful son you have tanith . Will you be able to wait til December though?

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 11:03:13

Talk about coincidence an unexpected parcel came yesterday, inside a posh store beauty advent calendar. Turns out it’s from my son an early Christmas gift, he lives abroad and after the week I’ve had it cheered me up no end a little gift to open every day in December. Not sure how much use they will be to me but I really appreciate his thoughtfulness.

Curlywhirly Sat 26-Oct-19 10:52:24

I bought one last year - I am afraid I have only used a few of the 'gifts'. Lots of tiny tubes of various creams and lotions and a few items of makeup. Can't say I fell in love with anything in the calendar, so won't be buying another one this year.
