Uniform or wear soemthing different everyday?

I have been reading about the idea of taking away the decision about what to wear and just wearing the same thing everyday (like Steve Jobs etc). I cannot decide what I would like to wear everyday, and have come to the conclusion that it's more fun to wear a new outfit everyday, mixing up what I already have and wearing what hasn't seen the light of day for a while. I have been getting into a rut of just wearing jeans and a jumper. What works for you?

Both for work and home jeans and a jumper. Apart from the couple of really nice days in the summer when I happily wore a summer dress.

When working (no uniform requirements - "own clothes") I decided upon my own "daily uniform" of black trousers, with a nice top/jacket/layers, depending on the season. Footwear (always comfy - on my feet a lot!) worn accordingly. This made my life a lot easier when getting up. At home after work I always "changed down" into leggings/jeans (or similar) because even if I was working at home in the evening, it was just more relaxing.

Chestnut, I do not think the OP is talking literally about uniform, but about wearing the same thing every day. You know, the lady who always black, or navy or beige or always wears trousers and tshirt and fleece, or similar

When I worked I had a work wardrobe of smart clothes clothes that I always referred to as my 'school uniform' and I would change out of them as soon as I got home.

oldgimmer1 - I have a range of "bling" lanyards and ID card holders that I got from Ebay. I change them each day to co-ordinate with whatever I'm wearing. That only entails removing my photo ID card and putting it into that day's ID holder.

Jeans and jumper or t-shirt and cardigan in winter. But then I have to decide what colour jeans (choice of blue, black, brown, green, red or grey!) And what colour jumper goes with them.

Summer is t-shirt and lighter weight/colour jeans/jeggings, or a nice summer dress. Gardening in summer means t-shirt and shorts.

When I was teaching it was smart trousers/skirt with matching jumper, none of the really casual stuff that I see young teachers wearing these days. And always heels; being 5 foot nothing I needed every inch of height I could get in the classroom!

I've had jobs where I've had to wear a uniform then into normal but smart outfits, suits etc. Now its casual and comfy and dependent on weather. Can't remember when I last wore a skirt, can't recall if I even have one and dresses have only been worn in the last 13 years for ACs weddings, outfits being sold afterwards. So glad I don't need to look glamorous on a daily basis.

Back in the 1980s, when large colourful glasses frame were fashionable. I had two pairs of glasses with different coloured frames which I co-ordinated with my clothes.

One day one of the engineers at work, looked at me closely and said 'Why do you have more than one pair of glasses?' I said 'So I can colour coordinate them with my clothes'. He looked at me in total amazement and couldn't think of anything to say and left, but he spread the news and soon the fact that I had two pairs of glasses which I colour coordinated to my clothes was the talk of the, almost entirely male, department.

I am retired, so I don’t have a uniform as such.

If it’s a day at home, then leggings with long tops.

If I’m going out, then smarter leggings, tops, jumpers etc. And leather boots. Also occasionally wear smart jeans for going out.
At home, I must dress comfortably, so always something stretchy.

So am I the only person still faithful to denim skirts for everyday? With navy or black thick tights in winter, bare legs in summer. I have 2 or 3 and find one 'lasts' a week assuming at least one day when something smarter is called for. Tops go two days.

I have a 'uniform' of sorts for school (teacher). I have the same M&S dress in a range of colours. They're all wash and wear jersey and I can stretch and move comfortably in them.

I'm aware in comparison to the other teachers that my 'uniform' may make me a little odd, but I HATE trying to decide what to wear for work. I have a slight preference to the grey dress, which I wear for parents evenings etc, but nothing special or extra OTHER than my proper pearls.

I have a personal uniform.
I’ve had it maybe five or six years and I love it.

I wear linen dresses/tunics summer and winter alike. I choose to wear whichever one is ironed!

In the winter I layer with long sleeved t-shirts and leggings or jeans and in the summer wear just the dresses /tunics - sometimes with cropped trousers.

Getting dressed is fantastically easy. Wish I’d discovered this way years ago!

I no longer work, but I try, not very successfully, to vary my clothing, as I feel DH and I are getting into a rut, wearing whatever comes first to hand.

Confession time - I used to love shell suits!
Comfortable, colourful and somehow seemed to flatter my figure.
Unfortunately I heard they were a fire hazard.

Think uniforms look really smart and take away the decision when in a rush to get to work, of what to wear ! The only snag was when the local branch of Debenhams changed their uniform blouse to the same as that of my work place uniform ...was fun in Debenhams to be approached by customers looking for help ! We had to take a different colour jacket or cardi if we were shopping there after work !! Where I live now I am retired every working person seems to wear all black with a neck chain and a badge. They look so smart I am tempted to wear all black every day with a bright blouse ….whereas I probably look a complete scruff !

I've taken to wearing two long sleeved tee shirts with my jeans. I've bought several white ones and four or five coloured ones. They are all from Sainsbury's Tu range and I bought quite a few by using my nectar points. I usually layer a white one with a coloured one. My favourite is the pink one but there's a lovely green one too. Sometimes I wear the coloured one on top and sometimes reverse that. I've gone right off black lately.

For my voluntary work I am clean and tidy but not smart, as I work mainly with clients who are struggling. Most days I need to change as soon as I get home if my clothes are smelly.

For my choirs I wear layers as it can get very hot, but now that it is cold outside, I need to pile the layers back on when I leave.

On days at home I wear much the same, long sleeved T shirt with blouse, cardigan etc. Some days I think it is time I dressed up a bit as I tend to be in a rut. I have a few dressy outfits but am more comfortable in trousers, navy or black usually. I can wear more comfy shoes with trousers than with a skirt or dress.
Comfort is key.

I hated wearing the same clothes day-in-day-out when I was at school and vowed never again to wear the same clothes two days running. However since retiring I find myself choosing trousers (cropped in summer) every day, but in different colours and styles, with a variety of tops according to the weather. Skirts are for special occasions!

I often wished as a teacher I had a uniform. Private school teachers sometimes wear their university gowns which hides what’s going on underneath! Some teachers wear inappropriate revealing summer clothes when they should know better. I never wear my teacher clothes at home I should try putting them together differently now I only work part time. I really could not cope with a limited capsule wardrobe of clothes or colours. Depressing!

I love to Sit down in mornings and have my cuppa knowing that since I retired I can take my time and not have to wear a gross looking uniform that we we were given to wear at work, as I real lover of clothes I get a sense of achievement knowing I’m going to like what I can now wear

NotTooOld Sun 24-Nov-19 16:33:39

What is a lavalava, please?

I am a bit stuck in a rut. In winter it's jeggings and jumper or long sleeved t-shirt, in summer it's 3/4 length casual trousers and a t-shirt. I'd like to wear dresses but they make me look so frumpy. Problems arise when I have somewhere smart to go (not very often, fortunately) as jeggings don't seem appropriate.

Hetty58 Sun 24-Nov-19 16:53:14

I never wore a uniform for work and was quite put out when jeans and trainers were discouraged. I just got smarter, darker jeans and trainers and wore t shirts with sandals in summer and jumpers with boots in winter (same jeans).

Now that I'm retired, I like long dresses in summer and stretchy, loose yoga pants instead of jeans. No more sandals or heels, either, just fit flop shoes (a collection) and boots. I dislike tight clothing now, so I'm often in pyjamas in the house. I have several gilet-type tops so I don't have to wear a bra!
