Moisturiser for dry sensitive skin

I’m looking for the holy grail of moisturisers - does it exist?
I prefer creams without too many irritating chemical as I end up itchy and sore. I’ve tried various creams and as I’ve got older and we go into winter and cold windy weather my skin is feeling dry and a bit sore. Anyone got any suggestions, please

I have Celtic sensitive skin and use Simple day moisturiser with SPF and then Clinique City Block on top to be ultra sun safe. My mother has had several basal cell cancers. City block can be drying so moisturiser has to go on first.

I posted earlier about child’s farm and la Roche Posay for moisturising with Rosacea. I use Lush calming soap with rose and camomile, best thing ever. I also use Lush sleepy lotion as a body moisturiser every night (helps relaxation too!).

I've got very sensitive skin, so I use Simple soap, cleansing lotion, and moisturising cream. I find them all alright.

I was advised by my GP a dermatologist to use Cetaphyl cleanser and moisturiser a few years ago when I had rosacea and since then I haven’t looked back. It is reasonably priced and has nothing in it to cause irritation.

Wow there’s lots of replies here! thank you! I’ll be making a list and lurking around boots and online trying them out. I get flare ups with anything with beeswax and I didn’t get on with Liz Earl either.

I’ve got fair skin from my irish mother, so I’m aware I need cream with SPF in too

Also products, Boots No7, E45. Waste of money paying for anything more expensive, probably paying for packaging.

Bijou Fri 06-Dec-19 15:15:09

Was advised by hospital to use E 45. Years ago a doctor advised Nivea.

Simple answer... it's another vote for Simple! Excellent and not overpriced!

Sandie58 Fri 06-Dec-19 14:56:09

I find the simple range good they do a day / night cream smile

There are good ideas for moisturisers on here, and I think I will try Aveeno, which I've not used. In addition I think it's wise for anyone with fair skin to use a moisturiser with SPF daily on their face throughout the year.
I agree Tweedle24 that genes play an important part.

JoJo58 Fri 06-Dec-19 14:39:49

I have been on Chemo this year and my skin became very dry they suggested Aveeno which was very good but the best was coconut oil it was in the food section solid coconut oil but as soon as you put it in your hands it melts the best ever also use it as a pre wash hair conditioner due to dry scalp also from the chemo and not expensive either.

Purpleknight49 Fri 06-Dec-19 14:36:18

Aveeno is available on prescription too

If you go to natural-skin-care.com you will find goats' milk and donkey milk moisturisers which are the finest I have ever used and wouldn't go anywhere else now. I have skin cancer on my face and these products contain no chemicals etc. just pure goodness. Would thoroughly recommend.

Coconut oil and a drop of essential lavender oil - divine!

Tweedle24 Fri 06-Dec-19 13:28:36

Like Baggs, I swear by Boots own, No 7 for very old ladies (I am 75). I am often told I look younger but, I suspect that is probably as much to do with having carefully chosen my parents and their genes as it is with skincare,

I too use Aveeno for hands and body, Sometimes Double Base Gel which was recommended by a Gransnetter and is great for crepey arms. Bio Oil too but not on face, they also do a gel version which I haven't tried.
I find Nivea, E45 and Astral are mostly water and have a drying effect on me.
For face I've tried all sorts but the best economy ranges are by Viola or The Ordinary.

Fiachna50 Fri 06-Dec-19 12:57:20

I have rosacea, acne and eczema. I am allergic to Nivea, cannot use the stuff. I use Dermalex just for Rosacea flare up. The best moisturiser for me personally is Neutrogena , Visibly Clear , Oil Free Moisturiser. (Not the grapefruit one.) Quite a reasonable price. For washing my face I use Superdrug Tea Tree Oil and Mint Facewash. Not impressed with the La Roche Posay one, which to me was expensive and showed no improvement. So went back to Superdrug. For my eczema which is mainly on my legs, I swear by Body Shop Body Butter , the Hemp one in the green tub.

PenJK50 Fri 06-Dec-19 12:53:48

I read recently that Helen Mirren only uses E45 cream which is sooo reasonable. I have therefore bought some to use when my Aldi cream runs out. I have actually used Boots face creams all my life, moving up the range - I’m now on Restore and Renew! I’m always being told that I have very unlined and good skin for someone of my age - 70 next birthday.

I find Superdrug Vitamin E range suits my skin, which tends to be rather sensitive. Use the serum and night cream at bedtime and will start using the day cream when my present Boots Botanics day cream is finished.

GlamGran59 Fri 06-Dec-19 12:31:13

The Ordinary from deciem are great for sensitive skin. Avene,Cerave, LRP are all affordable and great for sensitive skin but not cruelty free.

Craftycat Fri 06-Dec-19 12:26:34

I will only put Tropic products on my face. Not tested on animals, no animal products or chemicals in it- just pure natural ingredients. Only disadvantage is that you have to buy it online. My skin is in wonderful condition- better than it ever has been.

lilydily9 Fri 06-Dec-19 12:11:12

I've used Liz Earle products for many years and have not found anything better. I also like buying British. Her products are 100% natural and she has a range for dry and sensitive skin. Reasonably priced and available in stores or from her website. Really worth a try.

Another vote for Organic Virgin Coconut Oil! It can be used anywhere on the body, contains no additives and is easily absorbed so it doesn't leave a greasy feeling on your skin.

Allergenics are my other go to products. Inexpensive, too!

Spring Fri 06-Dec-19 11:33:19

Organic Coconut oil. £2.50 50ml
No additives
