Anyone still going to hairdresser?

I cancelled my appointment because I'm afraid of putting my head back to be washed giving the opportunity for germs to go onto my face from hairdresser above me. My area of the UK has a low incidence of C19 and I am fit and well albeit self distancing and staying at home unless absolutely necessary to venture out. Have other Grans been keeping hair appts? My hair is driving me mad and long overdue for a cut and blow so I would welcome yr kind thoughts or experiences?

I was starting to grow mine anyway. I think our hairdressers has closed now, we have appointments for 6 weeks but will see what the situation is then. We live on the outskirts of a very rural village, no near neighbours and are self isolating, I shall only venture out to get fresh food, milk etc, no one will really see me but I don't mind if my hair isn't quite right, I shall just wear a hat if it gets too bad!

suziewoozie Sun 22-Mar-20 09:30:19

Absolutely - and part of the criticising is providing information which some posters clearly are having a problem with accessing.

janeainsworth Sun 22-Mar-20 09:25:12

Well GG3 if we can’t criticise what other posters have written, how are we to disagree with them or to draw attention to the fact that their behaviour may be compromising the well-being of others?

suziewoozie Sun 22-Mar-20 09:20:04

Fgs eazy now is not the time to mince words.Telling it how it is to people is a social responsibility and the clearer it’s said the better. Just look at the Italy thread to see where we’re heading. Hair cut - god help us all

GracesGranMK3 Sun 22-Mar-20 09:14:40

Yesterday when welbeck first criticised you

Why is anyone criticising anyone? Just asking; it's not as if things are not difficult enough.

janeainsworth Sun 22-Mar-20 08:45:13

Rafichagran you appear to be blaming other posters for misunderstanding you, when in fact it is you who have created a false impression both of your relationship with your hairdresser, and the work you do, whatever it is.

You talk about the hairdresser cancelling her over-70 customers, and then later on say she is a friend, as if that makes any difference anyway.

Yesterday when welbeck first criticised you for going into work with vulnerable people, you could have said then that your work involved phone contact only. But you didn’t, you waited until several others supported Welbeck before saying your work didn’t involve close personal contact.

What are we supposed to think?

GracesGranMK3 Sun 22-Mar-20 08:43:53

The answer to all those who haven't yet worked it out.

eazybee Sun 22-Mar-20 08:32:05

Just read this thread. What extremely unpleasant and completely over the top comments from some posters.

Pittcity Sun 22-Mar-20 08:13:27

I'm glad that I have been growing my fringe and colour out. I will emerge with long grey hair and am happy about this.

suziewoozie Sun 22-Mar-20 08:09:40

And let’s stop pretending that we can continue to be different from other nations - for gods sake Johnson LOCK US DOWN immediately you complete and utter bumbling failure.- we could have learned from Italy but we are now becoming Italy.

mcem Sun 22-Mar-20 07:44:23

If this thread has achieved nothing else it has illustrated how very strongly we feel about responsibility. We are biting the bullet and giving up much of what we hold dear - from the trivial nonsense to the really difficult like not seeing family or virtually locking ourselves away.
This is no time for self indulgence.
Let's support those who are doing what's moral, sensible and required of us.

NfkDumpling Sun 22-Mar-20 07:36:17

Sorry raf but you did rather give the impression in your first posts that you had a mobile hairdresser come to your house (obviously after/before visiting other homes) and that you worked with old people which usually implies and old folks home /sheltered housing / visiting, etc.

Not many jobs with old people are conducted only on the phone from home. What is it you do? There may be openings there of some of us.

rafichagran Sun 22-Mar-20 02:54:27

How bloody dare you Hetty.
Yes I did drip feed and may not have put things as clearly as I should I admit it but let's get one some things straight.
I am a key worker, but work on the telephones.
I do not work in anyone's homes.
I do not work in the community.
I am not working face to face with people although have done in the past.
I do get it despite what people think. I keep my distance when out, I do not buy coffee or food from take away shops that are open. I do not go and have my nails done now, and I dont hoard produce from supermakets.
I am annoyed that I have to defend myself when all I did was answer a question in a style and beaty thread.
Yes a friend did my hair which I washed and blow dried myself. I paid her for it.
As for comparing me to a drunk driver and saying that I am just as irresponsible is just bloody nasty. I do not use public transport and only use my own car. I also do not give anyone a lift.
What I do in my own home is my business, I think some of you are virtue signalling in the extreme.
I am asking Gransnet to take my posts down as never before have I been so angry and upset, I will be in work next week and cannot allow some of your vicious comments to upset me.
It is 14.30 on Sunday morning and I am up having a cup of tea because I have a problem with my leg and it hurts. I never let what posters say on Gransnet get to me but the comments on here have been bloody vicious. Yes I made a mistake by not giving full information as posters have pointed out.
I have done my best to take precautions, and show respect for other people. Some of you have been disrespecful, and have caused me unnecessary upset.
I also know the difference between isolation and social distancing.

Hetty58 Sun 22-Mar-20 02:04:32

You 'do not like the way some people are speaking about me' - well, that's tough, but you still really don't get it. You've admitted being as irresponsible as a drunk driver - just to get your hair done?

Hetty58 Sun 22-Mar-20 01:38:39

rafichagran 'My hairdresser is clean and not breathing over me' is just not good enough.

Do you realise that 10% of infections are caught from somebody showing absolutely no symptoms.

Tiny moisture droplets from her breath can float in and through air currents for a long time - even from breathing, not a cough. They could contain the virus.

We are all advised to socially distance. Why ignore that and risk becoming ill and possibly causing death to others?

whywhywhy Sun 22-Mar-20 01:22:33

I cancelled mine. When everything else is shut done then why would a hairdressers still be open?

rafichagran Sun 22-Mar-20 00:16:18

I have not changed my story Suzy, I made a over sight, I should have said about working on the phones and not as you said drip fed. I have been totally honest and do not like the way some people are speaking about me. I may have put this badly but I have been truthful.

rafichagran Sun 22-Mar-20 00:11:04

What I meant was, I did not say in previous posts that I worked with people over the phones, that was my oversight. Perhaps I should have made that clearer. All my work will be done over the phone.

suziewoozie Sun 22-Mar-20 00:09:42

raf I can’t be bothered anymore with your constantly changing stories.

Callistemon Sat 21-Mar-20 23:55:11

rafichagran In your post of 23:00:10 you said that you did work with vulnerable people but over the telephone.
Now you say I did not say over the phone

Sorry, but I am confused and will leave it there.

rafichagran Sat 21-Mar-20 23:49:35

My work does not entail going to anyones home.

rafichagran Sat 21-Mar-20 23:46:49

Ok I did not say over the phone, but I never said face to face either. Posters jumped to that conclusion and became insulting.
I am proud of the job that I do, and never get bothered by remarks of other posters, but this has really upset me, that is why I want my posts removed.
I repeat I would never put a vunerable person at risk. So the poster who said shame on you is wrong.

hollysteers Sat 21-Mar-20 23:37:54

“Vanity, vanity, all is vanity” I’m reminded of the extraordinary tale of someone who saw Ruth Ellis (the last woman to be hanged in England) after she had been found guilty. They said she was mainly worried about her black roots growing out, her hair being blonde.
I’m going to use colour root spray for a while, then order a colour online. That’s not the end of the world is it, and who will see me? Maybe a time for experimentation ?

BlueSapphire Sat 21-Mar-20 23:28:10

Me too on 3rd April, going to cancel.

Callistemon Sat 21-Mar-20 23:11:08

rafichagran
You may have given the impression that you went into the homes of vulnerable people; you've now made it clear that you do not, you deal with them on the phone from an office.

If you're under 70, not in a vulnerable group and doing vital work you will obviously need to carry on with that as long as you are fit, ensuring that you keep a distance from yourself and others.
Perhaps it was a mistake to have your hair done but I hope you stay well.

Some people have to continue to do vital work, nor everyone can shut themselves away altogether but the over 70s and vulnerable certainly should.
