When I was a child / teenager this was a huge brand , I think everyone in our village bought stuff from The Avon Lady .

I had no idea they were still going until they popped up on our village FB page offering 64% alcohol sanitiser.

The last thing I reminder buying was a football ⚽️ soap-on - rope for my brother as a Christmas present when I was 16 .

Does anyone on here buy from them still ? Any recommendations?

My sanitiser is being delivered this morning along with a catalogue for old times sake smile

I do get a book through the letterbox occasionally but I’ve not bought anything for many years.

I still buy Avon products regularly. I particularly like their bubble baths. Both white lily and the jasmine are my favourites. Anyone wanting to purchase but without a local Avon lady all products are available online.
Free delivery if you spend over £15

I buy Skin so soft dry oil and sun creams.
Great online service.

I used to be an Avon lady, back in the 90's. And I've had Avon regularly until last September when my Avon lady retired.
I could start again with a new one but decided not to do so.
I'm enjoying looking around for other cosmetics/toiletries.
If I want Avon it's available online. Some of their stuff is really lovely, and cheaper than many.

I like their lavender products like pillow spray, room spray, etc. It’s much cheaper and just as effective as the widely advertised, “this works” brand. It’s a young couple who distribute and they are lovely, it’s nice to have a chat when they deliver, although obviously at present they leave my order on the garden bench and I leave the correct money in an envelope. We still wave though!

I never liked Avon stuff years ago, and I felt their products all smelt similar. I have recently found some hair de-tangling spray for children online, though, and it's been great for my GC as gifts.

My Avon lady moved so I buy online, except their perfumes.

A very pleasant young lady delivered my hand sanitiser yesterday and left a book for me .
Thank you for the recommendations - I have placed a small order online for delivery that goes towards The Avon Lady’s sales figures.

I use to be an Avon lady, but don't even buy it now as, as far as i know they still test on animals

No Avon Ladies around here in 30 odd years.

Many years ago my father used to work for a company that made the containers for their products, jars etc.

They were often elaborate and very expensive compared to the contents, but apparently Avon didn’t care about the price per unit - very attractive containers would sell that much better than plain ones.
Having said that, we did get a few freebies and they were certainly very nice.

I liked Avon but I didn’t know they were still in business.

Avon has changed dramatically. They now have a multi level marketing method of recruitment, a type of pyramid selling scam.
I now wouldn’t buy anything from them.

My mum (who would be almost 90y now) used to love the ‘Topaz’ fragrance in any line. My sister and I were allowed ‘Peach so Soft’ (?) talc and soap in the 60’s from the catalogue.
?
Ah, memories.

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jul-20 19:17:26

One of my favourites too Urmstongran. And Occurr! And there was another; in a little blue jar with a white lid and I think birds or something on the top? Can't remember the name. Somewhere?
There used to be a club that collected all of the Avon perfume bottles and jars because they were so unique. Probably worth a fortune now!

Callistemon Tue 28-Jul-20 19:22:35

One of the body lotions or oils is supposed to repel insects I think and smells nice too.

Does anyone remember which one?

Cherrytree59 Tue 28-Jul-20 19:23:26

Urmstongran We also had the peach soap on the rope.
It was shaped just like a lovely big peach.smile

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jul-20 19:25:09

Skin So Soft Callistemon but apparently, only the original formula not the other versions. I've used it for mozzy repellent and it worked.

Cherrytree59 Tue 28-Jul-20 19:26:26

Callistemon
Avon - Skin So Soft -Original

Callistemon Tue 28-Jul-20 19:28:41

Thank you Cherrytree and Chewbacca

NotaGran I think I remember buying that football soap on a rope for DS.

glammanana Tue 28-Jul-20 19:33:44

All the perfumes tend to smell the same but the bubble baths are good value when there is an offer on,I like the peach or ocean breeze.

Puzzler61 Tue 28-Jul-20 19:38:25

Chewbacca I think “Moonwind”? Dark cobalt sort of blue bottle?

Skin so Soft dry oil spray is the one that claims to be a bug deterrent *Callistemon”. I still buy it instead of deet products and I don’t get bitten.

I was a part time Avon lady in the 80’s.

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jul-20 19:40:59

No, not Moonwind I don't think Puzzler. It was a pale blue pot with a white lid. I think the edge of the lid was "frilled". Aaah! It's driving me mad not being able to think of the name!

Puzzler61 Tue 28-Jul-20 19:56:14

Here’s My Heart had a frilly lid Chewy ?

Grandmafrench Tue 28-Jul-20 19:57:13

Avon - Skin So Soft. When I bought it maybe 15 years ago, I was desperate for something to repel mosquitoes. The stuff then contained Picaridin and it worked like a dream. (Apparently the British Army used to take it on manoeuvres.) It even worked on nasty little Chiggers and I gave a bottle, rather foolishly, to our Vet because he used to spend a lot of time in fields and was always getting bitten. When I tried to buy it again, they wouldn't send it to France. A friend in the States bought 6 bottles for me and the post office refused to accept it. So.....anyone know if they still do it? I've tried almost everything else on the market since and nothing works like that.
