No longer bother with make up or how I dress!

Has anyone else felt that they have let them self go a bit during this time?
I always used to put on make up and cared about I dressed.
I seem to live in lounge and comfortable clothing now.
Buying online for clothes has not been a good experience. Must always check that it’s free postage to return items!
I really don’t want to get old before my time, arghhh!

I’ve always worn make up and won’t stop now I’m retired. It makes me feel better although I’m now using a light BB cream rather than foundation. I still like to look half decent and don’t usually wear jeans, they don’t feel right on me. Ive got several pairs of Robell trousers which I practically live in, different styles and colours.

I never wore make up every day, however I’ve stopped wearing a bra and skinny jeans, both are to restrictive and uncomfortable.

Spent my life in formal clothes. I now work a couple of days a week but can be more casual (lm classed as a key worker so have worked all through lockdown. I'm loving wearing more casual clothes but still like to be stylish. Don't want to look 'slobby' . I do my hair everyday and a slick of make up. Must admit non iron clothes also hold an appeal ?

Two things which I've always felt helped me to "look nice" on a daily basis, are wearing lipstick and earrings. Now, with wearing a mask, I can't do either! (Wearing both glasses and hearing-aids, there's simply too much "going on" in my ear area!)

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:31:04

I only wear a necklace, my watch and engagement ring if I'm going out. I generally slap some lippy on even when walking the dog!! I try to make sure my clothes co-ordinate apart from that, don't make much effort!

I am sitting here wearing baggy cotton dungarees similar to wartime landgirl ones. Cheesecloth top under. I have to go out later. Hair will be done, makeup put on and I will wear a linen dress.

The only thing I've really let go is that during and since lockdown I haven't often bothered to wear my contact lenses. As they cost almost £60 a month, that's been quite a saving!

Well I found myself putting on make-up for the Sainsbury delivery driver this morning! I see so few people at the moment (other than DH) and don't usually bother.
But I am making sure that my clothes are neat, if not smart.

Craftycat Thu 10-Sept-20 11:42:53

No - not at all. I wear makeup & dress appropriately for what I am doing for ME not for anyone else.
I have not left the house without my makeup since I was 14. Not going to change now.

lizzypopbottle Thu 10-Sept-20 11:53:25

I've never really gone in for make-up, just mascara and eyebrow definer. What you see us what you get, more or less. I've been amazed at what make-up can do, though. There was a picture of Susanna Reid, a few days ago, at home 'au naturel' and I wouldn't have recognised her! A few days later, back in the TV studio, the transformation was incredible! It must make starting a new relationship really difficult if you meet someone when you're all glammed up and then, the first time they see you without make-up, they see a stranger! ?

Aepgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 11:59:43

I’ve tried to keep up ‘standards’ and although my make-up is a bit less (helped a lot by good weather and walking which has made my skin look more healthy) I always wear eye makeup-up, and wear good clothes, unless gardening.

JdotJ Thu 10-Sept-20 11:59:50

No

I must admit I do slob around in my nightwear many a morning. I don't worry about opening the door to the postman or delivery driver but my neighbour has witnessed my obvious laziness a couple of times and I've seen her eyes ranging from my bare feet to ancient leggings and finally to my Sainsbury's nightie and there's a flicker of disapproval, derision even, in her eyes but, what the hey? I can live with that. ???

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:06:58

I don't think I've changed too much during lockdown, apart from a few extra pounds in weight - all sadly due to over-indulgence. For my own self respect I simply can't go about in nightwear all day unless I'm very poorly. I must dress for comfort and hopefully some style. Just because I'm on the wrong side of sixty I don't want to look like a bag of washing.

CBBL Thu 10-Sept-20 12:15:05

I'm with WoodLane7 and never wore makeup, except for special occasions. As I am also retired (for more) than 10 years, I don't have any need to smarten up for work! Sadly, since our favourite eating place will remain closed for the foreseeable, as it's too small to be "Covid Secure" - I haven't had any reason to dress smartly since the start of lockdown! I don't own jog pants or similar leisure wear - but I do wear jeans to go shopping.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:25:30

The only time I change out of my pyjamas is when I walk the dog and as soon as I get in I change back into my pyjamas that are loos, cotton and very comfortable. I do wonder sometimes if I’ll forget altogether and go out in my pyjamas . Can’t remember the last time I bothered with make up. In the past (pre Covid) it always surprised me if someone recognised me if I was out and about and not wearing make up. What I do find upsetting these days is that I don’t actually look much better when wearing make up. What I have started doing though (even in the house) is putting some foundation and touché eclat on the dark shadows under my eyes which does make me look less like an old crone.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:26:01

loose, not loos.....

Iam64 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:39:49

I rarely wear make up and during lock down I think I've once put tinted moisturiser and mascara on. It was a faff to clean off so I may not bother again.
When I was working, formal clothes were necessary. Since I retired its been largely jeans and t shirts/sweat shirts. Going out Id wear linen frocks or trousers with a good top. I fear a slippery slope and that my evening casuals of loose cotton pants and baggy tops may become regular.

lizzypopbottle Thu 10-Sept-20 12:44:34

I don't think I'd forget to get dressed if I went shopping, MayBee70, but I do take my dogs into the garden while I'm still in my jimjams and the same neighbour hailed me over the garden fence and witnessed my deshabille all over again.

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 12:54:51

I would love not to wear a bra, but sadly wouldn’t look pretty, or even respectable. I wear jeans all the time, occasional eye makeup, moisturiser, sun block and have odd dress or long skirt for occasional use. No change in lockdown really.

SparklyGrandma Thu 10-Sept-20 13:04:12

We are back in lockdown here in Wales. When I went out anywhere before Covid it would be in smart dress or trousers, hair very tidy, proper shoes.

My outfit since March, in the house, are M&S straight leg joggers, so lovely and comfy, and cotton crew neck tops in lavender, blue, green etc. All go in the wash, dried then back on. Chrisks it might be a lowering of standards, but boy does it feel comfortable!

trustgone4sure Thu 10-Sept-20 13:16:23

Me too Chrisks.
And i don`t care what anybody thinks either.
Dh is the same and strangly my son`s and their wives haven`t said a word.
It`s nice to feel comfortable all day and night.

Jane10 Thu 10-Sept-20 13:24:44

Well I've let myself go with a resounding twang! No more make up, stretchy waistbands and rugby tops for me. I do shower and wash my hair from time to time. Mostly there's only the cat to see me and he thinks I look great!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 14:02:54

Let’s start the Let yourself go gang *Jane10?

Jane10 Thu 10-Sept-20 14:47:59

Ooh yes. We could call ourselves the 'Slack Alices'? Sweatshirts and tracky bottoms are our uniforms and bare are our faces!
