Confused dressing

We used to laugh when the DD was at Exeter University. What ever the time of year it was, even a deep and crispy January, someone would be in shorts and flipflops.

MissAdventure I also read it was a competition, a few winters ago, to see who was the bravest postman and who could endure the cold months wearing shorts. However, it seems the bonus discovery was that legs dry far quicker than trousers, and in the wet and dismal weather the postmen are more comfortable in shorts rather than having flapping wet trousers for most of the day.

The dressing thing has always amused me too - on a spring day you can see people muffled to the eyebrows in hats and scarves etc. and others in t shirts. Different personal thermostats, presumably.

In these odd days where the weather changes frequently - so do I. I went from jeans, top and cardi, to a skirt and teeshirt, then shorts and, finally, back to jeans one day last week.

If I go out in spring or autumn I pack a bag with a skirt in if I am wearing jeans and, if it's warmish, I wear the skirt and pack the jeans.

I must be some shade of bonkers. I iron everything too.

My gast was absolutely flabbered this morning when I went to our local high street to buy fresh bread. Standing next to his car, texting, was a business man in shirt, jacket and tie. It was only when I went to the other side of the road I saw he was wearing 3/4 length trousers - as well as "proper" shoes and socks!

The sheer incongruity, plus his white, spindly legs were the only things that stopped me from laughing out loud.

Ugg boots ?

It's been extremely hot here in Devon today, so I'm keeping cool in a sun dress. No doubt there's people who are chilly mortals who will go into warmer stuff just because it's September. I'm making up for the dire August weather!

When I was able to go shopping in the Norfolk town I used to sit on my scooter eating my sandwich. On a lovely summers day most people were wearing jeans and jackets of nondescript colours. I only saw one skirt and a young pregnant woman showing her bare bump wearing furry boots

How fashions have changed over the years. I remember the days when women all wore pretty dresses on warm days as I still do.

Here in France at a certain date in September which is variable everyone dons winter clothing regardless of the temperature. We are currently in the middle of a heat wave but it won't be long before coats, hats jumpers etc are being worn. It's often very pleasant until the end of October but I often feel out of place wearing sandals and lightweight clothing.

My partner wears t.shirts and jeans all round the year. No matter what the weather. If it’s chilly, he might slip on a jumper as well. Such simplicity.

My problem is too much choice, so I nearly always end up wearing the wrong attire.

Vis-a-vis the postmen and women. My post man told me their work issue long trousers are heavy and uncomfortable, especially so when wet. He’d rather his bare legs got wet and cold rather than his trousers, and they dried quicker when he got out of the weather.

Just spotted a very tall slim person with long sleeved flowery blouse, hot pants ( the real ones by the look of things) black tights, long boots, shoulder bag.
Long grey hair and a very long beard.
They must have been roasting.

Reminds. me of the time in Mallorca when my mother and I in shorts and t-shirts walked along the beach in November and saw the auld folks trip All the women wore thick coats boots and woolly headsquares

My Australian cousin shared a wonderful pair of photos on Facebook showing 20° C in Australia and the UK. The British were in swimwear on the beach, the Aussies were dressed as if it were snowing.

The postman told OH that they wear shorts partly because being bitten on the back of the leg by dogs is an occupational hazard. The fabric from trousers getting in to the wounds can cause problems with healing and infections.

I remember going on holiday to Tunisia in April, we were in summer clothes as it was as warm as our summer, but seeing some locals riding their camels, muffled up well in thick duffle-type coats (the natives, not the camels).

My husband says I embarrass him in the winter because whatever the weather,my only concession to the cold is a long sleeved cardigan.
