Short of plastic surgery how can I make my face look better?

My face looks really wan and dreary and I would like ti too look more glowing - but how? Is my routine incorrect or am I stick with it?

Currently, I use a serum, a highish factor moisturiser and a BB creme which used to be fine even if I didn't wear any make up. It's not working now!

Please help.

Have you tried a face mask - moisturising and cleansing. Also occasionally using a defoliator. Don't use it every day as it is counter productive. I reckon the secret to a glowing skin is the cleansing not what you put on afterwards.

I was moisturising my face this morning and donning some lipstick. I decided I was probably trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear
I used to pretty but I am so so lined and wrinkled, can’t bear to look at myself or photos. Still I’m alive and well!
I do exfoliate etc.

I think we’ve all got “prison pallor’. The look you get when you haven’t been able to get out and about in the sun and air.

I’m usually quite rosy but am looking drawn at the mo.

L’Oreal do a pink tinted moisturiser that seems to help a bit. Don’t put it on at night though. It comes off on the pillow?

I think we are all a bit wan looking from being indoors so much , we need the fresh air and sun on our skin

Jane Fonda advertised it with

Washed out - sometimes. Washed up -never.

I like Clairol fake tan for the face. I moisturise and when that has soaked in I add a little bit of fake tan on the cheeks forehead and chin in just to make it look like a natural glow.

I bought some Clarins tanning drops a couple of years ago which you add to moisturiser but I thought they made me look sallow rather than glowing.

The other thing I do is use a cleanser with a muslin cloth. Massaging it in well and then wiping off quite hard with a cloth seems to give my face a bit of a glow.

X post seacliff
I think mine is a different product, though. The 'tan' gradually appears.

Tired face, haystack hair, hairy legs, lockdown pounds
I need to take charge of myself.

Mine was self-tanning milk lotion, had it for years. I might apply two or three very tiny smears on my cheeks over a couple of days, so I get a slight build up of colour.

I use Retinol at night after cleansing and vitamin C in the morning after cleansing. Must use SPF after the vitamin C. A good toner after cleansing night and morning helps. This helps to get the glow.

I sometimes use the Clarins Golden Glow Booster mixed with moisturiser.
At the other end of the scale, Rimmel Lasting Radience foundation is a very light formula and has tiny reflective particles that give a healthy glow.

I just looked in the mirror to put some bronzer on I look like s.... It must be worry and our lifestyle at this present time. I usually make the best of it with the bronzer and lipstick. Lately I need poly filler and a miracle.

I find a bit of blusher blended well in helps, and mascara so the eyes don’t disappear.
Callistemon, the hairy legs help keep you warm!

Once a week I use a facial scrub and a facial cleansing brush.
My preferred cleanser is Tropic.
On squeaky clean skin I use “CEO Sunday Riley” glow drops.
Under make up if I’m going out or need a boost I have a jar of Charlotte Tilbury “Magic Creme”.
The above are expensive but worth every penny.

I was behind a woman in a shop, she was talking to someone else about how to keep a beautiful skin with no wrinkles, she turned to speak to me looked at my face and just said Oh! With a look of horror!..... Wrinkles run in my family...?

Dee1012 Tue 02-Feb-21 12:24:55

I started to double-cleanse last year and feel it's really helped 'brighten' my skin.
I use a cleansing balm (Bodyshop) and remove with a muslin cloth and then go in again with a gentle gel cleanser...just a cheapie from Boots.
Serum followed by a day cream and that's pretty much it.

BigBertha1 Tue 02-Feb-21 12:26:29

I'm putting a few drops of Clarins Golden Gold Booster in my moisturiser at the moment to alleviate the prison pallor plus a dusting of bronzer or a bit of glitter. As I have to wear my specs most of the time now eye make up is a must and I have some subtle Bobbi Brown ones for that. kitty I hope you are well and getting some fresh air too. smile

YorkLady Tue 02-Feb-21 12:43:36

Can’t help with the no make look but Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundation gives you a subtle glow. If I don’t wear it, I look unwell ?

Witzend Tue 02-Feb-21 12:46:02

I often use the Olay Touch of Sun moisturiser in winter. It’s very subtle but does avoid that wintry-grey look. It’s not expensive, either.

Using an exfoliator regularly gets rid of the dead and dried up skin cells on the surface of the skin. I use a 'Sukin' one twice a week in the shower. Just have to find one with very small bits and rub very gently so you don't damage your skin. Or use a chemical one. You can make your own with a bit of oil and table salt.

I also use mud mask twice a week - cleans out and tightens the pores. Can't afford to regularly use the one-use ones that you lay over your face.

Moisturizers and serums work better without the layer of dead skin cells so double benefit.
