Ditsy dresses

I too love dresses. There are styles for any occasion from casual to smart. I have never understood the obsession with jeans though, and am mystified as to why 90% of women seem to wear them 90% of the time.
They are not warm enough in the winter, too hot in the summer and they must feel horrid when they get wet.

Anyway back to dresses. I love Boden after seeing a feature in a paper last year featuring their Amelie range. I sent off for one, loved it so ordered another in a different colour.

Dresses are much cooler and we're in for some hot weather. That one is very pretty.

M&S had some rather more jazzy shirts for men a couple of years ago - I bought some for DH before we went away.
I didn't choose anything too outrageous as I didnt think he'd wear them but he did wear the ones I bought.

Now, I ordered a dress from Land's End and it has horizontal stripes- is that a step too far as I'm no longer a size 12?

Pink if you don’t wear whatever you like and hang the doubters at past 60, when will you?

I find that the most flattering dresses are the ones that you feel comfortable, happy and confident in. If you feel good, you look good.

This thread made me take a look through my wardrobe.
Found lingering was the dress I bought for DDs wedding. I purposely bought something I would wear again, not.
I tried it on yesterday it fits perfectly and even DD said it looks nice!!!!
I am going after Church on Sunday with DGS to a garden party and it shall be worn.
Probably with a rain jacket and wellies.

I agree, you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I was worried about getting this style of dress as l have gained weight. Just got two from TU, really reasonably priced. One in a lilac/ navy print and one in dark yellow/ white print.
I am size 18 and 5ft 9 but they go up to size 24.
They are both really comfortable to wear and you don't need a cardigan.

I love the summer! One reason is that I can wear dresses! There are so many different types to choose from which seem to suit all sizes and age groups. There are plenty of plain ones if you’re nervous of prints. It’s a stylish and comfortable way to dress. Suitable for every day as you can wear a jacket when it’s cooler. Don’t worry if you choose something too long as it’s easy to get a dress altered so that it’s perfect for you. Choose colours which flatter. You can’t go wrong. Good luck!

Just go for it. I've been wearing jeans/trousers for 18 months but no more. Two weeks ago out went the 'cant be bothered' look and in came a short sleeve summer dress and two summer pinafores all midi length. Cheered me up no end and made me want to do a bit more with my appearance. I'm 60+ slightly taller than you, a dress size less but with plenty of wobbly bits. Providing the dresses are a loose fit they hide much more than a pair tight trousers or clingy top. Buy one you wont regret it.

The mood of ditsy prints is innocent and casual, and these can apply to any age.

If the silhouette is right for you then the style of the print is a minor matter of what mood you happen to be in. It is the all over silhouette that matters much more than the details.

Have a look at Joe Browns on line and New look they have long flowing dresses without the Step ford frill. Pretty ditzy dresses are perfect for the summer I am 64 and feel good in a lovely dress.
I have quite a selection from various shops. I have mentioned on another thread that I have about four different coloured style polka dot dresses. I wear mine with small cardigans to cover the top of the arms. It does not matter what size you are a ditzy dress looks feminine.

I have always loved a ditzy pattern frock especially Laura Ashley ones. Personally I avoid the ones with a grill on the bottom as to me they resemble curtains and are not a 'classic' look.

You re looking in the wrong places elderly there are loads of ‘wild’ patterned men’s shirts around in fact I think men’s fashion (apart from city shirts) is very colourful these days

I have just bought a pair of baggy cotton dungarees which I was very unsure of ( thinking I m too old) but I absolutely love them and love the look

Not me. There’s a difference between dresses with a waist and “shapeless’ !

I wear loose fitting shapeless dresses, I agree I probably look slimmer in fitted dresses, but I just love that look. Even better if I was 6" taller, but as people have said, wear what you love & are comfortable in.

Ladies love this forum. So positive. Have bought three dresses from QVC. Go into dresses. Put max at £25. And you might be luckylike me. Lucky shopping. 10/12 is usually small. 12/ 14 is usually medium. They have sale at moment.

What a nice post from Elderly Person, good to hear a gentleman’s views. If I were you PinkCosmos, if you try one of these dresses on and it’s comfy, that’s all that matters and you’ll enjoy wearing it. Nice and cool on hot days (assuming we get some ...). No need to worry about age or size appropriate so long as it’s not a low cut ‘pelmet’!

Elderly Person, there seem to be quite a lot of very attractive patterned men’s shirts around at present and plain shirts with patterned collars. Take a look at the Charles Tyrwhitt website for example, I’m sure you could find something nice that you would enjoy wearing.

Absolutely you should, I love them, light cool very summery. Only with three quarter sleeves for me though.

Go for it, I’m short and ‘pleasantly plump’ and have a few ditsy dresses. Being a shrimp I look overwhelmed by big patterns so ditsy ones are fine.

My favourites are from FatFace and Weird Fish. I love dresses with pockets and both these brands usually have them,

My advice would be to try some on. Some clothes look a lot better on the hanger than they do on me! In principle, I’d say go for it, if, having tried it, it makes you feel good.

I’m dithering about buying this short dress / tunic, which I’d wear with jeggings or leggings now, tights in the autumn. But would I look as if I’m trying to be a student…….. (I’m 72, size 14, 5’7”)

I’m the same size, but an inch shorter PinkCosmos, and I’ve just bought this dress from Mistral. I’m often given gift cards and our local Department Store (yes, we still have one of those in our town) stocks all my favourite brands.

My usual ‘go to’ are the charity shops, so it feels a bit OTT to buy new dresses, but I do like many of the current styles.
