She looked gorgeous as usual. But I would have liked the dress to have had a more dramatic belt.
Maybe a wide corset clincher? Or a wide contrasting fabric sash, possibly with a huge bow?

lemsip Mon 18-Oct-21 16:58:38

I think that style of dress suited her shape perfectly as did the gold one for the Bond film do.

MerylStreep Mon 18-Oct-21 17:01:31

She could wear a black plastic bin liner and still radiate elegance and style.

Kate Moss actually did!

I really do know a load of rubbish sometimes!

I love fashion and clothes but the most fabulous thing about Kate as far as I am concerned is her smile. She has such a huge, open smile it makes me want to join in with her.

valdali Mon 18-Oct-21 17:31:25

I don't think Kate's smile is her best asset - but I particularly loved that dress and I can see she might have looked more fashionable with a wider belt, but for classic elegance I thought she looked wonderful. Much prefer the grecian tiny pleats to the "big" net chiffon look that is so much seen at the moment.

Parsley3 Mon 18-Oct-21 17:34:56

And I just thought she would catch a cold without her cardie.
Clearly fashion passes me by.

Your just kind and practical Parsley3 smile

Maybe she had a little strappy vest on underneath to keep her warm.
I certainly would have had ?

NotTooOld

Kate has no waist? Well, I have no waist either but I regrettably don't look at all like Kate. I think she always looks fabulous. I was thinking just today that Kate is treating being Queen-in-waiting as a profession and doing very well at it, too. Well done, Miss Middleton.

I agree with you NotTooOld - she’s looking good, having gained a bit of weight and she seems a loving sensible devoted mother. She and William look easy together. I especially liked your comment that Kate is doing well at her role as Queen in waiting. I hope she doesn’t have a very long wait

Namsnanny Mon 18-Oct-21 18:18:58

Am I right, her dress is 10 years old? I know she has worn it before, as did the other presenters.

Yes I agree she could wear anything and still look great.

The dress Emma Watson wore seemed as if the designer was trying too hard.
Even though she too could (and did), wear anything and still look good.

Oh and I didnt realise PWilliams jacket was velvet. Just like Bond smile

Josianne, Namsnanny, anyone else interested in what the Royals of any/all countries wear, there is an on-going thread on Mumsnet re. this. I’m no Royalist, but do enjoy browsing through it every so often.

Me too. V3a
Or a lady in waiting just out of shot with a Pashmina!

Emma Watsons dress was made out of 10 pre-loved wedding dresses.

I do like looking at what the other half wear grannydarkhair

And take an interest in fabrics, soft furnishings and the latest colours.

It all comes around again. Mustard, rattan, velvet all from the 70's, and now I see in the paper big shoulder pads are making a come back.

Thanks for mentioning the thread on MN

But if Camilla has a fair innings we more mature ladies might be able to pick up some fashion tips from her?
Maybe not!

Josianne Mon 18-Oct-21 18:45:02

To be fair to her, Camilla doesn't pretend to be a style icon.

Anniebach Mon 18-Oct-21 18:50:04

If Kate doesn’t have to wait too long to be Queen consort it will mean the death of her father in law will not be too long a wait.

Alegrias1 Mon 18-Oct-21 18:51:36

And the death of her husband's granny. confused

Namsnanny Mon 18-Oct-21 18:52:09

No she doesnt, but as a prominent person, she cant help but be critiqued on her style.

I think she looks good and has a style that she is comfortable with.

Josianne Mon 18-Oct-21 18:56:26

Both Camilla and Kate often choose dusky, pastel shades. The Queen is far more colourful but I've read that is to make her stand out in a crowd.

TillyTrotter Mon 18-Oct-21 19:01:31

I liked the way Kate wore the dress it didn’t wear her IYKWIM?
As she is of slight build she would be swamped in anything too fussy. I envy her her long legs, and she just exudes elegance.
Of course the issue she and William are promoting is an important one, but OP opened the thread with a fashion comment which most of us like to come on and debate. Amongst ourselves. ?

Didn’t it used to be a crime to speculate about the demise of the monarch? Off with their heads! grin

Emma Watsons dress was made out of 10 pre-loved wedding dresses.

I was a bit puzzled by that. Unless they were all very definitely not reusable, hacking up 10 dresses doesn’t seem very sustainable. There can’t have been much from each of them in the finished article.

BoadiceaJones Mon 18-Oct-21 20:35:56

I thought her dress was perfect for the occasion - simple, understated - this was after all, not a fancy State occasion but one sending a message about the immorality of conspicuous consumption in this world we inhabit.
