How can I, at the age of 72, covet grandaughter's DMs?
Do you, would you, have you worn them?
Do i wish i were 8 again?

My daughter’s favourite footwear about 20 years ago - well, actually, I think I’ve still seen them on her ?

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 29-Oct-21 20:24:25

DD1 and my Granddaughter both have DMs as soon as I can get to the shop (to try them on) I’m getting myself a pair, theirs are such soft leather.

TillyTrotter Fri 29-Oct-21 20:28:43

Our DD2 lived in them in her teens and still wears similar lace up boots now.
I never minded her having them as they were well-made and accommodated her wider than average feet.

I had a pair of DM sandals about a decade ago and they were possibly the stiffest, heaviest and most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. They were expensive and I ended up taking them to the charity shop as they never 'wore in'.

That said, your granddaughter's boots are so pretty.

Mine are getting worn out now, but they were a lovely iridescent purple when they were young.

I also have a few pairs of doc sandals.
They're very comfortable.

Lovely boots, love Fly boots as well.

Jaxjacky Fri 29-Oct-21 20:37:56

My favourite boots, many moons ago, were red Kickers..sighing for times past.

boheminan Fri 29-Oct-21 20:40:29

Yep, I still wear my old 70's oxblood/red DM's and they are still comfortable. Your GD's rainbow DM's are beautiful MrsPickle. Go on, get yourself a pair!

My DD and DGD wear them almost 100% of the time. DD is 51. She loves the designs but mainly because they do them in a 9. She wore a pair for her graduation 27 years ago. Goth phase then .

I prefer boots to shoes and my favourite pair are Fly too rafichagran.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 29-Oct-21 20:53:55

Yes I still wear mine, especially in winter

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-Oct-21 20:56:13

Absolutely nothing wrong with DM’s whatever age you are

Redhead56 Fri 29-Oct-21 22:30:58

I wore them on the beat when young and have worn them since they are practical and comfy at any age. My granddaughters wear them they are really nice in patent leather.

grannyqueenie Fri 29-Oct-21 22:38:19

I love them, they’ve never been comfortable for me, but if they were I’d wear them now. All 4 daughters have had them at one time or another. As teenagers 2 of them said they wouldn’t go to go to their brothers wedding unless they could wear DMs…. that wasn’t a battle worth fighting, so they did! smile

Zoejory Fri 29-Oct-21 22:38:47

Get yourself a pair!

I have 2 pairs. Very comfy as well

Kim19 Sat 30-Oct-21 04:24:23

I think they're hideous but, at the end of the day, comfort counts most so good luck to all who wear them. Just not for me.

FannyCornforth Sat 30-Oct-21 07:20:04

I agree with Scones, so unbelievably uncomfortable.
Aged about sixteen I bought a gorgeous mustard yellow pair, about fifty quid from Stourbridge market, which was an awful lot of money then.
I couldn’t even stand up in them, let alone walk in them.
So stiff and heavy, they would have cut my feet and legs to ribbons.
Went straight back.

henetha Sat 30-Oct-21 10:13:21

I love them but I have to go for comfort these days. I would buy a pair if they were comfortable and had memory foam insoles or similar.

When my children were young we lived near the Doc Martens factory. We all wore almost nothing else.

I visited the factory. The workers were so skilled. They paced the eyelets by eye, no measuring, in seconds.

Sadly they closed it down and moved to places where labour is cheaper.

Am 52 and have never been without a pair! I have five pairs currently. So bloomin comfy! I have sparkly ones and an embroidered pair.

PaperMonster Sat 30-Oct-21 12:15:08

Redhead56 I used to wear a pair in the newspaper office I worked at as a teen. I used to get colleagues humming The Bill theme tune at me!!

Blondiescot Sat 30-Oct-21 12:18:13

Go for it! I've got a pair of leopard print ones and I love them!

goose1964 Sat 06-Nov-21 11:59:57

Apparently doc martens aren't what they used to be, but there ethos has been taken over by solovair.
