I personally don’t like wide leg jeans although I love wide leg trousers. And that’s me not a comment on what anyone else likes.

What matters is what a person is comfortable with!

Oh for goodness sake - why all the hurtful comments, to Lillian40's post? Obviously she has her reasons for prefering wide leg jeans, but none of us have the right to tell her she is being judgemental while doing exactly the same to her? I love skinny jeans and I think they suit me, but possibly they don't as I also have a big tum? Perhaps just let things go and answer the real question she is asking. Where does she buy the new wide leg jeans from apart from M&S who never have your size?Whatever that size happens to be.

My jeans are semi wide, that is not like drain pipes,I dont like flapping jeans.
I dont like seeing people with huge bottoms waddling around in tight jeans or in those tights things thinking they look smart, especially older women who think they lookthe height of fashion, they should have more sense, leave this to the youngsters.

Bring back 1970s bell bottoms! Much more flattering and leg-lengthening than the current skin-tight styles of jeans and trousers. I never wear denim jeans because they aren’t comfortable, the colour runs, they take ages to dry and need ironing. ?
The worst item of women’s clothing ever created has got to be leggings! Men’s has to be long shorts…?

The remarks you made were general, not aimed at anybody and, let’s face it true, we are all different shapes and often make the wrong choice in what looks good. Anyway, jeans. I think good old M&S gives a good selection as others have said. I always wore skinnies but these days can’t bear the feeling of tight jeans on my legs. My last pair are balloon jeans, not the most flattering so next time I’ll have a look at the Mom jeans. I’m tall and skinny.

While I might think “ oh dear me no”. It does not mean those people,don’t have the right to wear whatever they like! It is just my opinion! And it doesn’t mean I think I am perfect….I don’t like my legs at all but I hope I dress appropriately…

I’m no saint, but I have had struggled with body image, I have had eating disorder and I have been physically and verbally abused by first husband, for being fat, after giving birth.Told me what I could and could not wear. I Had a mother who fat shamed me daily from the age of five. Why on earth would I then go on to do that to another women? I am actually more likely to tell someone when they look great, (even strangers) People love it, when you just say hay you look great, love your dress, your perfume smells lovely and so on.
Of course, we all make judgements and assumptions it is how we make sense of the world, but its how we act on those thoughts that matters. There are kinder ways to say and do things.
I think as women we need be more positive about ourselves and other women.
Fashions come and go and not all of them have been kind to us women, but kindness to other is the only way to go.

You are implying that I judge people and tell them…of course I don’t. I also often tell people how nice they look, particularly if they are wearing something a bit “different”

My point is that I can’t believe so many people never have a passing thought about what another person is wearing….and by the way I think exactly the same about men wearing ill fitting trousers or t shirt stretched over beer bellies.

why can't you believe it? There are many more interesting things to notice and think about than what strangers are wearing.

I am traditionally build and look like an elephant in wide legged jeans. I wear jeggings, leggings or skinny jeans with long tops or tunics. And anyone who judges me had better be prepared to be judged back hard.
It would have been really easy for the op to ask her question (where can `i get wider legged jeans/trousers) without the judging and the sneering.

You're being a bit hard on Lillian40! When I read the OP the poem of Ogden Nash, which was in a book given to me 50+ years ago, came to mind:
"Sure, deck your lower limbs in pants
Yours are the limbs, my sweeting.
You look divine as you advance
Have you seen yourself retreating?"

While I agree the op was a bit judgmental (a bit ?!). Is everyone on here saying they never ever look at what someone is wearing and think “oh dear that’s not very flattering” ? I know I do, be they old or young thin or not….so shoot me…

I prefer fitted or even skinny jeans/trousers. I dislike fabric flapping around my ankles and am quite short so I don’t think wider trousers look nice on me. On one never to be forgotten occasion some family members (all somewhat bigger than me) laughed at my ‘skinny little chicken legs’ in my skinnies which really hurt so, very unlike me, I gave them a piece of my mind! Wear whatever you feel good in but avoid commenting on someone else’s choice unless they actively seek your opinion. And even then, please be kind!

Elizabothe , its a statistics thing. What I mean by "real women" is the huge range of shapes, ages, and sizes. Models and celebrity beauties are among the tiny percentage who are unusually pretty.

Women need to support other women,skinny wide ,sailor bottoms torn or whatever if you are comfortable then do it hold yourself in positive esteem Happy New Year

I have had years of people who have felt the need to tell me I am too skinny! I’m not, I have simply inherited a slim build from generations of women in my family. I hated my figure for so long because of these thoughtless comments, especially in my teens. I could have retaliated with truly nasty comebacks but I chose to say nothing although I had my own opinions regarding their appearance. I still wince when posts about being termed ‘skinny’ is a frowned upon description of some women, seen through the eyes of others on GN.
I’m sure it wouldn’t go down well if I were to say to someone they were far too fat!

Wide legged, cropped trousers wouldn’t be a good look on me and I am more comfortable in high waisted washed velvet ‘skinny’ jeans and tapered trousers in winter and a few pairs of different coloured jeggings in summer. Each to their own and whatever your opinion of how other women look - keep it to yourself.

Wide leg jeans don’t appeal to me, even though I’m 5’7, but what I do find is that my mobile phone rarely fits into the pocket of women’s jeans. This is really inconvenient.
Additionally, I’m going to say that I don’t like seeing any women wearing the kind of trousers which cling tightly to their backsides with no top to cover said backside. It’s an opinion I’ve never voiced before, because I realise I’m perhaps a little old-fashioned, but regardless of what other GNetters say I believe I am entitled to my own opinion. By the same token I really dislike seeing half of a man’s backside.

I once was looking at hair dye which led me to a thread on some website where men were discussing how fat girls who give it out dye their hair blue. It was an awful website/thread, full of misogyny, so I think maybe people are sensitive to women being discussed in such a manner.

I don't intend to change from Levy's 501 any time soon.

OP you probably did not intend to give offence, but we do need to be careful not to be too dogmatic about our likes and dislikes.

If you merely had said that wider legged jeans suits your figure, I am sure no-one would have minded.
