Lucca I totally agree with you. Lillian probably didn't think it through, when she posted what was, maybe, just an off-the-cuff comment. She should have known that her remarks would be jumped on by the PC police (as mine probably will be) I admit to sometimes thinking, "OMG!" at the sight of someone's outfit. I don't believe anyone who says they have never done that. On the other hand I wear what I like. Almost always jeans or trousers, and at 82, size 16 and 5ft tall I'm sure that people judge me too. I don't care, as long as I'm warm/cool enough, and comfortable. Wide jeans are definitely out, for me. I would look ridiculous, and probably catch my foot in the flappy things. I also like bootcut, but the shops seem to stock mainly skinny jeans, which I would find uncomfortable.
I see lots of wide leg pairs in the Charity shops though. Way to go, Lillian, and remember that freedom of speech is still (just about) allowed in this country.

New fashion women's jeans.
(182 Posts)At last wider leg jeans, lets be honest, how many older women look good in tight or narrow leg jeans.. Even some younger women would do themselves a favour and not show of the huge hips' and unshapely legs. We cant all look like models. I have walked behind bandy legs, bowie legs, spindle legs and fat legs. Not a pretty sight. How much more feminine we will all look in the wider leg jeans. The problem is where do you purchase them, they are promoted but in which store.???
I don't do jeans...simple.
I love skinny jeans and wear them all the time. Not a fan of wide leg jeans. Regardless of age, just wear what suits you and/or that you feel comfortable in. As long as I can look in the mirror and feel reasonably content, I don’t care what anyone else thinks. That’s one of the great things about getting older.
I’m now at age where don’t really care what others think, I wear skinny ones as they’re stretchy and comfy, wore boot cut when they were in, always wear loose tops over as I’m ‘cuddly’ (20!), my kids always roll their eyes when I say I’m fat - I am, but don’t care! Bringing up a beautiful daughter I made every effort to only compliment and never be judgmental to her and she’s a confident woman now with a shapely gorgeous figure.
Finally I remember in 80s actually sewing myself into jeans at the bottom to get them as tight as possible!
Agree with Polnan. What an over the top and quite bullying reaction to the OP. I guess none of you ever think anything bad. It's not like she has said these comments to the women in question. Calm down and stop being so holier than thou.

Thanks greengran. There are some real saintly types on GN!
While I might think “ oh dear me no”. It does not mean those people, don’t have the right to wear whatever they like! It is just my opinion! And it doesn’t mean I think I am perfect….I don’t like my legs at all but I hope I dress appropriately…
Skinny, straight or boot cut for me. I nearly fell down the stairs years back, catching a foot in the other leg of a pair of flared trousers, so apart from also being too short for my weight, no wide leg trousers for me.
Nothing holy about it. I dont wander the streets judging peoples legs. I think that's a little odd. I am perfectly calm though thank you.
Um not sure about this one! Are you male? Sound like something a guy would say.
My daughter is a size 6 and looks amazing in both type of jeans. I run, walk, dance and go Zumba I am no spring chicken but I don’t have huge hips and unshappily legs and find skinny jeans more comfortable than wide leg. My friend is size 20 and looks fab in her skinny jeans. ( high rise)
But None of these matters. Havent women been through enough of this body shaming? Havent women had enough of all this you must look thin and young to be of any value.
I teach in a six-form college, where many girls of all shapes and sizes embrace their bodies and wear what they want and encourage older women to do the same and its refreshing.
If you want to wear wide jeans, great, that’s your choice but why make that choice about others and their bodies?
I wear skinny jeans, so does my friend size 20 That’s our choice you see. I think there a lot more to women than huge hips and unshappily legs, Come on lets stop body shaming.
Hope you find the jeans if you really want them Newlook, H&M and Asda do a great range.
I am not a fan of any wide legged trousers and as I am out walking a lot of the time, I wear walking trousers and am a big fan of ACAI trousers which are all skinny fit (and come in a big range of sizes.) I feel good in them and really don't bother what other people think.
I mean Haven’t Gransnet need an edit button
For anyone looking for boot cut jeans, Marks and Spencer sell them. I have some.
Harem trousers are a little safer than wideleg, as the flappies can trip you up.
Real women mostly look better in elegant draped garments than in clingies.
Well said Scotsmum!
In defence to the original post. I’m sure it expresses what a lot of people think but wouldn’t necessarily say out loud.
I don’t care what people think of me. I’m 5 foot short, wear 27” leg, slim fit Suzie from Bon Marche. I don’t follow fashion.
What exactly is wrong with having an opinion about how others look? I am sure Lilian40 doesn't go up to people and berate them for their fat bottoms/bandy legs etc, but she is surely entitled to her view. It's just not aesthetically pleasing to see the way some people dress - why cannot they look in the mirror and wear something flattering and easy on the eye. There's a reason that clothes are modelled by slim well proportioned women. The rest of us can't all aspire to be as good-looking but we can and should dress to enhance ourselves and not go about offending the eye. I just don't believe anybody has never thought 'OMG what a sight' when confronted with some of the inappropriate outfits that some people choose to inflict on us. It's disingenuous to pretend otherwise. I'm with you, Lilian40. Doesn't make us nasty, just honest.
I meant to add, I would never say out loud some of the thoughts that pop in my head, that would be wrong. Keep your opinions to yourself
I'm 5 ft 2 and look awful in wider leg jeans. I really couldn't care less if my tighter jeans offend anyone, each to their own. I suggest you just looking around for a different view if it upsets you.
Ahh, so it's you that follows me, judging how I look in jeans. You must stalk me as I feel your eyes on me everywhere.
I've been told it's all in my head, these feelings of being judged and found wanting, but your post is proof that I'm not paranoid.

I’m no saint, but I have had struggled with body image, I have had eating disorder and I have been physically and verbally abused by first husband, for being fat, after giving birth.Told me what I could and could not wear. I Had a mother who fat shamed me daily from the age of five. Why on earth would I then go on to do that to another women? I am actually more likely to tell someone when they look great, (even strangers) People love it, when you just say hay you look great, love your dress, your perfume smells lovely and so on.
Of course, we all make judgements and assumptions it is how we make sense of the world, but its how we act on those thoughts that matters. There are kinder ways to say and do things.
I think as women we need be more positive about ourselves and other women.
Fashions come and go and not all of them have been kind to us women, but kindness to other is the only way to go.

What is your definition of real women?
I'm unlikely to buy or wear Jeans of any shape now. I haven't felt comfortable in jeans since I was in my forties. Now in my eighties is say wear what suits you and your comfortable with. If others don't like what you wear. That's their problem not anyone elses.
I have to say I look fabulous in my skinny jeans ?
I have nice legs (shame about the face ??)
Im sorry I can't help you with finding the jeans you're looking for. But I can see lots of others have made suggestions.
Good luck
Gosh, this has got venomous. We have barely stepped into 2022. Where has peace and goodwill to all men (and women!) gone? HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL
Worn jeans as long as I can remember & will not give them up now! Reached 77 & at 4ft 10ins tall & size 10/12 wear straight jeans now. Used to wear Bootcut but hard to find now. Dont care what anyone says about me & my choice. Spent years worrying because I was picked on for being short now just dont care. Love my jeans & will be cremated in a pair when the time comes along with my favourite t shirt (Quo) too. If someone doesnt like it that is their problem!
