Words fail me lol!!!

Grannynannywanny Wed 16-Mar-22 21:30:10

All this chat of wearing the curtains has sent me back to 1970. I went to visit my 18 year old cousin who was at home on “study leave” before her first year uni exams.

Unfortunately her Dad had arrived home unexpectedly in the middle of the afternoon and caught her in a compromising position on the sofa with her boyfriend. Just as I reached their garden gate the boyfriend jumped out through the living room window trying to escape her ranting Dad. In his desperation to escape he got tangled in the curtain and pulled the curtain pole down! He landed in a heap on the front lawn wrapped up in a green and pink floral curtain. He didn’t have the trainers and white socks on but they appeared through the open window 5 seconds later along with his trousers.

I sensed it wasn’t a good time to drop in for a cuppa and I kept on walking.

Ugly and old-fashioned clothes

maddyone Wed 16-Mar-22 21:52:33

Oh gosh Grannynannywanny that made me laugh. I thought things like that only happened in comedy films.

As to the dresses ugh! ugh! ugh!

Will some one please put me out of my misery, is the first model a woman with ugly knees? Or a man with a pretty face? I’m utterly confused!

So the proportions are all wrong - the dress, minus the dreadful collar, might suit a well behaved 11 year old in which case the socks and trainers could work. On an adult it just looks ridiculous. The long dress has both my pet hates, the flounce round the bottom and those dreadful ruffles down the bodice. I would have thought that if they are suggesting dresses for men to wear it would be better not to show styles that make them look like freaks.

Believe me, I have worn a dress made out of my mother's curtains and a cord dress made from setee covers. I was 16 and we all made our own dresses and skirts luckily the skirts were short so did not need much material.
Years later I read "Gone with the Wind', and Scarlett O'Hara made clothes out of curtains.
It has taken M&S a long time to catch up,their clothes have been hideous for quite a while now especially for us Grans. My 11 year old GD loves them.smile

If I’d have worn dresses like that as a teenager I may have hung on to my virginity a little longer.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Mar-22 23:32:59

Sago shock?

grannyactivist Thu 17-Mar-22 00:20:06

ixion I clicked on your link and whilst the zombie looking models are quite off-putting the actual dresses are all completely hideous!!

Is the site an offshoot of M&S?

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Mar-22 02:35:18

Dear God in Heaven.
That is truly vile.
Are they taking the p*ss?

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Mar-22 02:44:07

This is the photo from the M&S website.
It looks much better here.
I have no idea where op’s photo is from, or who the individual in question is, but to misquote Rid Stewart, they certainly don’t wear it well

Okey dokey

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Mar-22 05:32:38

Did you have do write those times down?

aonk Thu 17-Mar-22 11:25:23

I completely agree about the dress under discussion but it’s fair to say that there are many really lovely ones in store or on the website. We can’t expect to like or want to buy everything a store has on offer. I’ve seen some lovely things there recently and have bought a cardigan and a dress.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 17-Mar-22 12:20:43

I had a look online this morning and didn’t see anything I liked.

Now, see what you’ve done - I looked on the M and S site to check this out (couldn’t find it) and ended up ordering this dress blush

I’ve just bought this dress as well as the ditzy blue one. They are gorgeous and only £25 each! ?

If flowery is not your look then here's a dress which will make you look even more frumpy.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 17-Mar-22 12:35:55

Especially with the fetching sandals.

JackyB Thu 17-Mar-22 13:34:35

And size 11 feet!

Chestnut Thu 17-Mar-22 13:37:23

I used to like flowery or pattered dresses (esp. in the 1970s) but I would never have worn anything like these at any age!

Those are indeed some very ugly dresses. Also, the grumpy model look doesn't do it for me!

The whole baggy dress with sneakers has not caught on here in Canada. Can't say that I like the look, I don't think it is flattering.

Lucky you. It's been hanging around here for too long. Looks ridiculous on older women and unflattering on young ones however slim and pretty.

Millie22 Thu 17-Mar-22 14:44:24

What a lovely dress and it's quite short! Must go and have a browse round m&s.

AGAA4 Thu 17-Mar-22 14:50:41

I have just been in m & s and the dresses are horrible. One matched my tea towel.
