Trends you'll be glad to see the back of and won't miss one bit.

Boxy tops with no shape.
Oversized clothes. I work hard to try and keep my waist. No ways am I hiding it in shapeless boxy tops.
Ditto oversized clothing.
High-waisted trousers. I prefer mid rise.

Bit of a contentious one but I'm sick of seeing white trainers etc everywhere. I went for a meal the other day and every woman seemed to be wearing a dress with white trainers.
So uninspiring and if your feet are larger than a size 5, white makes them look huge

What are yours?

Cold shoulder clothes, don't get it. Why wear a long sleeved jumper in the winter and then have holes on your shoulders to get cold?!
Low rise trousers
Skinny jeans on men - look wrong and effeminate
Ripped jeans
Swimwear that show your entire buttocks and teensy weensy bikini tops that show 99% of your boobs. look very tacky
Trainers with skirts/dresses unless the skirts/dresses are very casual style like safari type
Slug eyebrows
Tangoed skin, over doing fake tan
Fake boobs
Botoxed faces
Pumped up lips
Fake nails unless very natural looking
Tattoos
Facial piercings
Unisex toilets
Wedding dresses that are very revealing
Food served on silly receptacles like slate
The trend of having sweet brioche buns with burgers. Weird.

Agree with all of those

This is so true! Long floral dress and white trainers, it’s like a uniform! I hate mom jeans as they’re so high waisted that I can’t breathe in them ?. Also you need a degree in ‘jeanery’ to buy a pair in M&S, it’s so confusing ?

Peaseblossom Wed 30-Mar-22 23:58:20

Detest that

gmarie3 Wed 30-Mar-22 22:22:29

I had to comment re/ the ripped jeans so many mentioned. I also dislike the trend but have an old, OLD pair with rips caused by age and usage (not fashion). I kept them for painting and yard work, both of which I'm doing a lot of lately. So, I've been wearing them daily the past few weeks and, every, single time I try to put the awful things on, I get my foot caught in the holes! Tip: Do NOT try to pull a pair of holey jeans on near the top of a staircase! shock grin

@snowberryz bless you my dear! With 7 billion people in the world it would be very boring if we all liked the same things wouldn’t it? Additionally different people suit different clothes. I worked as a stylist for many years and I can attest that some of the items you mention will look POW on someone. I hope to see the back of opinions that mean that imply ‘good taste’ is one person’s perspective.

Mapleleaf Wed 30-Mar-22 21:58:26

There are lots of fashion trends that I dislike personally, however, I appreciate that we all have different tastes, and so things I like will not necessarily be liked by others and equally things I dislike won’t necessarily be disliked by others. I think that we are fortunate (in our part of the world, at least), to live in a time where you can, more or less, wear whatever you like and follow whichever makeup trend you like.
Trends come and go, but I think there is far much more choice around now, thank goodness, so that most of us can find something that we are happy to wear, and what’s more feel comfortable in wearing without worrying that we are going to be castigated by most for doing so.
Some of the dislikes mentioned upthread, I agree with wholeheartedly, but of course there will be others who love them, so I think my point is, thank goodness we have the choice to pick and choose.

Tatoos on men, and mostly on women, do they think they are smart?
Torn jeans, even if they cost a fortune

Shizam Wed 30-Mar-22 21:17:47

I like that young women are embracing wearing comfortable shoes, trainers or different, rather than killing their feet and spines in spiky, narrow high heels. Did it myself when young. But my feet are not thanking me now. Men don’t do this to themselves!

lizzypopbottle Wed 30-Mar-22 20:23:55

I love three quarter length sleeves, Happysexagenarian. I have long arms, so long sleeves rarely reach my wrists and I pull them up to just below my elbows. I have very ugly elbows, so short sleeves don't suit either. ?

lizzypopbottle Wed 30-Mar-22 20:18:31

I don't mind admitting, I find high waisted trousers extremely uncomfortable. I think it's my shape... ?

Allsorts Wed 30-Mar-22 20:14:32

Tattoes, ripped jeans, exposed muffin tops, ample women with skin tight leggings that don’t reach their waist. Men in training pants, no top on and their stomach hanging over as soon as the sun appears. Trout pouts just weird, Botox faces that don’t move.

varian Wed 30-Mar-22 20:07:13

I'd like to see the end of the fashion (to the extent that anything else is unacceptable) to be six foot tall, size six and look like a very miserable anorexic teenager.

Happysexagenarian Wed 30-Mar-22 20:00:39

Slug eyebrows
Trout pouts
Ridiculously long false eyelashes
Ridiculously long false nails
Ripped jeans
Boots worn with summer dresses
Leggings & jeggings, especially when worn by anyone bigger than a size 10.
Luminous white teeth
Three-quarter length sleeves

I don't follow fashions trends, never have.

grannybuy Wed 30-Mar-22 19:54:50

Mid rise trousers
Jeans with ripped knees
Tops and dresses with frills and gathers, and dresses that also have tiers - they make me think of Little House on the Prairie
Knee high boots with jeans tucked in
Leggings without a garment covering bottoms
Fur round hoods on jackets
High heels with bare legs - it’s not so much the bare legs, more the bare feet.

nexus63 Wed 30-Mar-22 19:18:22

i am a big lady 22/24 and i have never followed any of the trends, but some i wish would go are the skin tight jeggings/leggings, nothing worse than seeing a large lady with those an a thong under them (my late partner used to say....it's like two wanes fighting under a blanket) i also hate ripped jeans.

Curlywhirly Wed 30-Mar-22 19:15:23

Madeleine45 I too think manufacturers are missing a trick - I have the opposite problem to you - because I am small I love 3/4 sleeves (which invariably are bracelet length on me) and I definitely don't want a longer length jumper, which ends up looking like a mini dress! I do wish that jumpers could be bought in different lengths. Recently, M and S (online) offered a t shirt in 3 different lengths, genius!

Blossoming Wed 30-Mar-22 19:08:03

madeleine I’m with you on the 3/4 sleeves!

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 19:02:51

Blossoming

I will be glad to see the back of long gingham dresses with frills, flounces and tiers.

Oh yes. They would look awful on most people.

Boris Johnson: he's certainly gone on for far too long.

Dempie55

Cockapoos, labradoodles and French bloody bulldogs!

Our vet says he loves it if someone brings in a real dog. Think he must mean proper sized as opposed to all these little cockerpoos that every other person seems to own these days.

Ugh all that eye makeup! They must have strong eye lids! Ha! I love trainers, but never white. They remind me of nurses shoes... Ugh

madeleine45 Wed 30-Mar-22 17:08:37

I absolutely hate 3/4 sleeves especially in what is meant to be warmer clothes. If it cold enough to go mad and wear a cashmere jumper what is the point of the sleeves not reaching your wrists and it should have a long line too , not just to the waist.? I hate any 3/4 sleeves anyway, if you put a cardigan or jacket over it the wretched sleeve makes an annoying ruckle. They think we are stupid and it is a fashion, whereas it is just a way to put less into each jumper. I have suggested to one manufacturer that they have perhaps 3 or 4 of their jumpers that you could choose to have a longer line coming well down. They could just keep it at the headquarters, you try on the short one to see if yo like the pattern/colour on you and then they can send you the longer jumper. To me that makes sense, if it is popular they will see there is a market for it, if not they havent lost much , I wear what I like and what I have that suits what I do. I am a singer so I do have long black velvet style skirts and trousers and bought a great bargain - to me - of a kingfisher blue shirtwaister silk shirt long sleeved. Never dates , looks fine in a church and feel lovely. Paid £12.50 for it about 6 years ago. also have a Batic Geruda long dress and one or two other things that look smart and feel comfortable to sing in. Then the rest of the time it is mostly trousers and cotton and fine wool jumpers in the winter, and thin cotton trousers or shorts and t shirts in the summer. I have sensitive skin so have to be careful what I wear. Cant use ordinary wool jumpers, come up in bumps so save my money and watch out for the sales of cashmere jumpers and then look after them and always hand wash them. So now have about 7 from 2 that are fit to be seen out and are light and easy to put in a rucksac, and 5 that are getting a bit past it but are fine for the garden and for wearing in the house, not putting the heating on. I dont waste money on clothes but quite happy to find that the things that I am wearing happen to be in fashion or the colour is popular sometimes.
