Trends you'll be glad to see the back of and won't miss one bit.

Boxy tops with no shape.
Oversized clothes. I work hard to try and keep my waist. No ways am I hiding it in shapeless boxy tops.
Ditto oversized clothing.
High-waisted trousers. I prefer mid rise.

Bit of a contentious one but I'm sick of seeing white trainers etc everywhere. I went for a meal the other day and every woman seemed to be wearing a dress with white trainers.
So uninspiring and if your feet are larger than a size 5, white makes them look huge

What are yours?

Massive fake nails

I love wearing white trainers with a dress! Agree about the boxy tops or anything baggy. I don't like the slug eyebrows either. I can't bear those false nails/talons which are about an inch long. That's a pet hate of mine. We have just been told in work that we're changing from 'Dear Sir/Madam' on our letters to inclusive pronouns. It hasn't been decided exactly what yet. I dread to think. Wokery is everywhere!

I love the dress and trainers look and it is so comfortable.

I don't like the jeans, striped top and Skechers look which is common amongst older people.

Boots in summertime
Dresses that make you look Amish
Ripped jeans
Tattoos
Older people trying to sound young be using terms the young use I remember my mother using the words fab and cool and my father looking at her as if she had lost her mind.
Cars as big as mini buses that take up so much room in parking bays.

*GillT*, I wear mid rise jeans when I can get them but I promise you'll never see my knickers.

well, I'm glad to hear it! Don't you find you are forever hoiking them up? I would be.

No need to take things so personally.

I’m
Not. Just thought we had already done the baggy clothes white trainers thing last week

My biggest problem is seeing something I like then realising I will look like a vicar's wife spouse in it, with apologies to all cool and well dressed vicar's spouses of course. I hate the fact that the shoes which look great on my daughter make me look as if I have some hideous foot problem and have to wear orthopaedic shoes. I don't get the point of cut our shoulders on tops, it just looks as as if your vest has slipped off your shoulders. I have no problem with what other, younger people wear as I no doubt looked a 'right ticket' when I was a youngster, but thought I was the bees knees. What I hate is that being older and fatter not as slim as I once was. Oh, and I hate mid rise jeans and trousers, I don't want to see anyone's knickers.

Curlywhirly Tue 29-Mar-22 16:18:34

Baggy shapeless tops and dresses
Skinny jeans
High rise trousers/jeans

Am waiting for boot cut jeans to come back and as I have no shoulders - shoulder pads!

Making loads of assumptions here, but aren't these trends often aimed at younger people though and not intended for (speaking for myself here and I assume many of the folk on Gransnet) the older generation?

My parents moaned about my clothes and music when I was a teenager, but it wasn't for them....it was for teenagers.

Perhaps it was ever thus. Ripped knees and fancy eyebrows aren't for us and never were meant to be.

Chewbacca Tue 29-Mar-22 15:00:19

"Cold shoulder" tops; they just look ridiculous to me.
Wokery in all its forms.
Groucho Marx eyebrows as a fashion statement
The apparent need to go everywhere gripping a cup of coffee in one hand and a mobile phone in the other.

People misunderstanding / misusing the term ‘Room 101’

Yes to jeans with rips and holes in them.
I thought I'd found the perfect pair the other day. They were a beautiful shade, not too light, not too dark. They weren't too high waisted and they had my length. Just what I was looking for.
Took them off the rack to find they had great big frayed holes on both thighs.
An OK look if you're trying to ^get down with the kids'

Haven’t you done threads on white trainers and “baggy” clothes already ?

And you personally might like mid rise trousers but I don’t,

Ripped jeans
Wide legged trousers
High waisted trousers
Invented pronouns: just pick the one you dislike least from he/she/it
Being told to "stay safe".

I must be honest and admit to the fact I ignore most trends and always have done, unless, I really like something AND it suits me - both my body shape and lifestyle and I do think the latter is the thing that can go wrong!

I'm the same. I like to keep an eye on fashion trends but if they don't flatter and aren't comfortable then I don't buy.
It's interesting seeing the bell-bottom jeans coming back recently, but I can't see me buying them this time round!

AGAA4 Tue 29-Mar-22 12:44:43

Dreary colours. I like pastel shades but not 'in' these days.

eazybee Tue 29-Mar-22 12:36:27

Wide-legged loose trousers seem to be returning, and they only suit tall, very slim women.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 29-Mar-22 12:22:45

Scary eyebrows ?
