Expensive hair dryers are they worth it ?

That’s where I first saw the Dyson on QVC but have also seen it in John Lewis. It’s good to know it’s not heavy. If it’s sucks rather than blow does it take some getting used to?

I have a Dyson hairdryer, it's light, quick and easy to use.
My Hairdresser had one, so I was lucky to see it in action before I bought one
Had it over 2 years now, I wouldn't go back to any other now.

I found a nice one in Aldi fir £7. Am a great Aldi fan. Light and easy to use, it does the job. My hair is porous and dries very quickly. A fancy hairdryer would not make any difference to my lank, thin, dull hair.

I could buy a £400 one, but why would I? It’s a hairdryer.
Would rather save the £393 fir something else. That’s just me.

I have a Dyson vacuum cleaner, thought it would be super but it’s not. Trying to empty it means putting hands or a stick into the dirt to release it from the side of the container. Underwhelming.

However if I were to win the dyson raffle....no!only joking.

Mine cost £10 many years ago, a Boots own brand.

Am quite sure if I had a £400 one, I still wouldn’t be able to get my hair looking presentable.

There were threads about the £300 Dyson dryer when it first came out - some people bought one I think. I wonder if they're still in use!

I have a bog-standard hairdryer, but I can see that for some people, a really expensive hairdryer might be worth it, if it's really good. It's my understanding that some women are spending £100 or more on one salon visit (I'm not!), so maybe a Dyson hairdryer is simply the equivalent of a few such visits. And thus may seen as better value, in the long term? (I'd love to have the opportunity to try one, with no commitment!)

Davida yes, that’s an excellent point. I never go to hairdressers and dye it myself.
(I can’t believe that I’m still justifying myself to myself about 5 years on )

I think I would find any hairdryer difficult to use. I let my hair get about 50% dry and then put on mousse and use the Babyliss big hair hot brush like one of the posters above. Mine has a smaller barrel and I’m so pleased with the results. If you want to invest in a good quality hairdryer why not ask your hairdresser for recommendations?

DH bought me a Dyson hairdryer for Christmas, I find it very good and dries quickly without ‘fluffing’ my hair.
I also have a Babyliss hot brush, which I use with spritz to refresh my hair between washes.

Fanny you have no need to explain yourself. If I had been in your position I would have done anything to improve things.

I’ll check out the travel dryer by Babyliss and asked my hairdresser.

PS I bought a linen jacket at Sahara for about £100 in the Sale ! I’ve never worn it. What a waste of money. I’m not sure why I liked it.

I was staying in my daughter’s house last week so used her Dyson hairdryer and I have to say I was impressed. I’ve got a lot of hair with a tendency to frizz which can be exacerbated by hairdryers, however this dryer didn’t blow my hair around it just dried it perfectly.

Sadly it’s way out of my price range or I would definitely consider buying one. ?

Did anyone have one of these instruments of torture in the 1960’s? A Pifco Princess hairdryer with a hose which filled up the plastic cap with hot air. The hairdryer was ok but the cap and hose attachment were useless.

Yes Grannynannywanny I had one of those . Used to set my short layered hair with 34 rollers and stuck the fringe down with Sellotape. Those were the days!

My big sister had one.

I bought the Dyson hairdryer for my daughter about 3 years ago because she had long hair which was heavily bleached/streaked and was breaking understandably she was upset .
Well this was a game changer for her she no longer needed to blow it every day then go over it with straighteners,she says it has saved her hair...

I had a friend who used to iron her fringe. Head on the table style. She burnt her face more than once. Sellotape far more sensible,

My sister did all she could to tame her curly hair as a teenager.
When she went to bed she had a collection of metal hair clips all over her head keeping the curls down. A chiffon scarf was tied over to keep them in place.
She looked like an alien and goodness knows how she slept - it must have been torture.
No wonder she was often grumpy …….. ?

And sorry, I digressed, no I wouldn’t buy a Dyson hairdryer.
I made a mistake buying a Dyson air multiplayer, and then went back to a regular (much cheaper) electric fan on a tall stand.
