I am starting to shed some weight and have made the decision to try not buy any new clothes for a year, with the exception of a wedding in September.

So as of today I am combining clothes I have never put together before, todays ensemble is a £12 shirt from Penny’s with my “ magic pants” £24, they go from a 12-16 are amazingly comfortable and don’t need ironing.
The shirt was for the charity shop but I’m hanging on to it now.
I think I will see my wardrobe in a new light.

Thanks for the info on magic pants, I had never heard of them. I too have managed to lose some weight and have dug out my collection of 6 different coloured Boden breton tops, all bought on Ebay years ago.
I was undecided about the pants size as I have chunky calves, so have ordered a pair of plus size which I can change if needed, in denim blue.
I have just received my £150 Council Tax rebate, so treated myself to one pair for now, but if I like them I shall get more.

Hi Sago ,

I'm extremely sorry that you've been ill .

I hope that you're getting better now .

Was it the dreaded Covid - if you don't mind my asking ?

I said goodbye to two friends with long covid yesterday -they have gone on holiday.I hope that they are finally turning a corner .

Went shopping this morning and felt like an ice block .
I dived under a blanket and dozed all afternoon when I returned .

It's been such a beautiful day too .
I've wasted it !

It's been a day for sitting in the garden with a glass of wine .
Better still a bottle !
Take care .

Esmay Not Covid but a nasty dose of campylobacter.
A lot of the weight loss is of course fluid but it’s a start.
I have essentially had a complete detox so it makes sense to build on that and break some bad habits.
I have decided it’s too soon for wine, so just sparkling water and lime.

Esmay Sat 30-Apr-22 18:56:59

Campylobacter is a really nasty pathogen .
Poor you .
Every sympathy .
Do you know how you caught it ?
I expect that you had antibiotics .

Sparkling water and lime sounds really
refreshing - better than wine !

Hopefully you'll continue to get better .

As I discovered this week, you can look slim, have weight within your BMI and still have far too much body fat. sad

I’ve bought some magic trousers from boutique they Italian brand lovely fit, £25 pound! Once the warmer weather descends on us I will be rocking them, you look nice and slim Sago!

Can someone explain what clothes combining us please

I have clothes that go with lots of things in fact most of my stuff is plainish and in 'my colours' so goes with most other things.

Genuine question.

MawtheMerrier Sat 30-Apr-22 21:11:26

OP describes it as putting together clothes she has not put together before.
Isn’t that what most of us do anyway - a few basics-E.g. smart black trousers (linen in summer) which go with a variety of shirts/jackets/tops depending on the formality of the occasion? I rarely buy one piece with a view to matching it with only one other item and as I said upthread, I like finding things I may not have worn for one or two years and “refreshing” them with another newer piece.
There is something satisfying about this sort of “make do and adapt “- if not”mend”. But nothing new.

Good post Sago! I hope you’ll be fully better soon.

Can I ask if the ties at the front of the trousers are functional or just decorative? I tend to avoid buying any clothing with them as I don’t like the added bulk in the tummy area.

PS I do think you’re on to something with the whole reprieve from getting rid of a garment thing. It then somehow liberates you to wear it differently and start to enjoy it.

Sago Sat 30-Apr-22 22:26:31

Happyyogi The ties are necessary but somehow don’t look or feel bulky, the trousers really do give a slim, neat fit.
Kitty I’m attempting to wear new combinations each day until I can no more!
I will not buy anything new and will not be filling up charity bags.
Esmay I think it was a restaurant, I have had a course of antibiotics.
I got the same infection 4 years ago and ended up being taken to A&E on a blue light, it had caused heart problems, this was a mild dose in comparison!

Marydoll Sat 30-Apr-22 22:54:53

Happiyogi, the ties are functional, but not bulky.

Happiyogi Sun 01-May-22 09:59:50

Thanks, Sago and Marydoll!

Thank you Sago and other posters for the information about the trousers. Apologies for not responding sooner but yesterday turned out to be a very busy day.

Parsley3 Sun 01-May-22 19:46:12

I have just had a pair of these Italian trousers delivered and they are super comfy. I don’t do eBay but I found the same seller on Amazon Prime. Thank you all for the recommendation.

Sago Sun 01-May-22 21:28:06

Parsley3 Fantastic, I think you will get loads of wear from them.

Todays new combo!
I have had this too hanging in the wardrobe for two years, tags still on!
It didn’t seem to work with anything.
My old faithful Barbour jeans seem to team well once I added the gold Geox trainers.
The top was TK Maxx £20, trainers TKMaxx £40, Barbour jeans Outdoor and Country £110 (5 years old and still ping strong)
The monogrammed bag was a gift from Hudson Blu.
I’m really happy with this new combination, I’m so thrilled not to be buying new clothes.
This method really works.

MawtheMerrier Mon 02-May-22 12:53:03

Sago I hate to sound as if I am raining on your parade, but haven’t we all been doing this for ever ?

Sago Mon 02-May-22 13:05:15

Maw I haven’t, I’ve just grabbed the same combinations and never been adventurous, this is really making me think and stopping what was becoming a bit of a clothes purchasing obsession.

MawtheMerrier Mon 02-May-22 13:06:39

You surprise me - but, way to go.

Baggs Mon 02-May-22 13:14:07

Forgive me for not really getting it, but why couldn't that shirt have been "combined" with blue trousers or a skirt before?

Baggs Mon 02-May-22 13:15:16

Apologies. Just read some more posts.

But I thought "separates" as my gran used to call them were made for combining.

Polly73 Mon 02-May-22 13:26:31

Aren’t (or weren’t) combinations a sort of all in one undergarment?

Kalu Mon 02-May-22 13:33:26

Yes, Baggs. When clothes shopping, which I do not enjoy, I head only for rails showing which colours suit me always in mind and I can coordinate with what is in my wardrobe, ergo, no wasted purchases. Something I learned from my granny.
