Tanning tips/recommendations for "old" white legs!

I've bought a really nice dress which is described as midi. I would have liked it slightly longer but hey ho. I have very white/bluey legs (not my best feature). I'm going to need to put something on them so that they don't look so pale. So many different products in Boots that I'm totally confused. Has anyone got any recommendations that are easy to apply and cover up mistakes please. Quite happy with "wash off".

Hi Dilly ,

I've got in a complete panic over showing my legs .
Gosh what terrible bruise ! How on earth did you do that ?people ask .

I think that you can take supplements of vitamins C,D,K and zinc to counteract it though I've never tried .

I'm going to use Dove gradual tan to get the basic colour then the Sally Hansen over the top .

My dresses are all mid calf .

Just be aware that tanning products can stain .
The best thing to get the stains out is mens shaving foam .

Try with the fake tan and make up .

Wishing you lots of luck and enjoy the summer !

Esmay I got the bruised apparence from cooking my legs by applying a hot water bottle to my sore leg for hours. It actually cooks your leg and can cause cancer. So silly. I’m in a complete panic too, I was already very self conscious of my spider veins.
Does the Sally Hanson rub off on clothes or just the Dove?

I hope you have a wonderful summer too, and that both of us can get our pins out!

Hi Dilly ,

I can understand that pain made you apply a hot water bottle for hours .

I think that we'd all do anything to stop pain .

Sally Hansen does cause some staining on clothes though I've got it off with soaking and using the shaving gel .
The only item ,which I spoilt is a white bra when I went for an all over tan look .

I don't know about Dove .

Maybe try experimenting with non favourite clothes or resorting to dark colours !

Sorry .

I had my spider veins lazered ,but nothing can be done about the bruising unless I try the vitamins ( CD K plus zinc )
I'm going to investigate the vitamins .

I really hope that you
can disguise your problem and remember that we are both beautiful in other ways !
Take care .

This is why I live and die in trousers- my legs, like Victorian piano legs- are best hidden!

I’m going to a wedding soon, and unlike most of the other guests, I imagine, I shall wear tights.

Don’t think bare legs at my age look very glam in a smartish dress. I feel more ‘finished’ in a pair of nice tights.

I use St Tropez bronzing water mist.
Best to make sure legs are exfoliated first with a good body scrub and well moisturised
Using a tanning mit helps avoid patches.
Also smells better than many tanning products

Tanning products all smell dreadful on me now. I’m not sure why. I used to use them all the time but now, I can’t. The lady in Boots suggested Isle of Paradise to me at the weekend. She has said it gives a good colour and the smell isn’t too much. I’m trying it later so, will let you know.

She did mention to me that during Covid, there was a shortage of an ingredient necessary for self tanning products and that something else had been manufactured. I’m wondering whether that’s the ingredient I can’t tolerate now?

Went to my ‘posh’ wedding, and was surprised by how many ladies, young and older, actually wore tights.

I know you can get bare legs, toeless, seamless ones nowadays, but even so, didn’t notice that many ‘bare’ legs at the actual do.
Perhaps more people thought as I do, that a pair of tights finishes an outfit off.

My legs take about six months of sun exposure to tan so I use the Dove gradual tan too. It doesn't seem to come off so long as you let it dry properly before getting it near clothes. I usually apply it at night about an hour before bed. I only apply it every other night, use lotion on the other nights, and exfoliate legs every four or five days to get rid of any dry skin cells. I use gloves to apply it so I don't get brown hands and nails if I don't wash it off quickly enough.

I have used the Airbrush Legs in the past. Had no problems with that either, so long as it's dry. Covers marks better than tan, so I use it when I don't wear longer skirts/dresses.

It seems to be fashionable for the bare leg look now which is such a faff. Getting my pale blotchy pins hairless, smooth, and presentable is hardly worth all the effort. I’ve seen some nice, loose, super light, summer trousers, different lengths in local Rohan shop (have no connection with company) but buy quite a bit of their travel/outdoor kit, so may give them a go.

Calendargirl I wear tights to more formal occasions too. Most women I know do. But I know some people have trouble getting them to fit comfortably so don't like wearing them. Plus for those with a bit of extra insulation I expect they may get over-warm in some nooks and crannies.

My lower legs are scared, veiny and blotchy but I really don't care.......if they offend anyone that's just tough. They're my legs and I will blooming well do what I like.

Caleo Thu 09-Jun-22 11:59:05

I like skirts and the main reason I wear trousers is my lower legs that have oedema. It;s not pretty but tanned skin would make it look less unhealthy. Yesterday I wore face make up on my lower legs when i went out in a skirt.

I don't have any but there used be make up that came in a solid cake which you wetted and applied with cotton wool then let it dry.

Shinamae Thu 09-Jun-22 12:07:18

I swear by this you can build the tan as light or dark as you like and it’s really quite controllable.. and it also moisturises the skin beautifully..

Bossyrossy Thu 09-Jun-22 12:20:54

I use St Tropez on my legs in the summer months and if I’m going to expose my body in a swimsuit on holiday, I get an all over spray tan.

Redhead56 Thu 09-Jun-22 12:26:55

I hate my legs I have veins right down to my feet very unsightly as well as bruised legs. On a formal occasion I wear flesh coloured tights summer dresses are long. When I wear capri pants I use Dove Derma Spa summer revived. It’s self tanning for fair to medium skin it looks fresh and not fake.

Soozikinzi Thu 09-Jun-22 12:29:05

I use that skinny tan coconut spray which smells lovely.

Esspee

I’m not sure what you mean about an old post Esmay the OP is dated Friday.

Why not let your legs get a real tan Kiwiqueen?

We can all do with allowing our bodies to produce natural vitamin D.
Just get your shorts on and go for a regular walk unless you are in NZ where you are heading into winter.

yes but 6th of MAY

BlueBelle Thu 09-Jun-22 12:34:27

I use the sun don’t like all the chemicals

Luckygirl3 Thu 09-Jun-22 13:22:57

Tan-coloured leggings are good! They are certainly what I would need! smile

The trouble with tanning lotions is that they tan the moles and other imperfections as well. Best to use the Sally Henson products as they offer a cosmetic cover up, like face foundation. All of them messy, imo.
Has anyone had a spray ten on lower legs only?

hollysteers Thu 09-Jun-22 15:53:57

I’m still waiting for it to be warm enough to expose my bare legs.
It’s far too chilly!

Oldbat1 Thu 09-Jun-22 16:13:32

I am a typical Scot with whiter than white skin and freckles. I keep well out of the sun as I don’t want to burn but I would really like a little bit of a tan. I’ve ordered Dove as recommended above just for my legs. Light to medium. Hope it helps.

Roobs Thu 09-Jun-22 17:26:19

I but 7 denier hold ups( or tights if you prefer) from Next or M&S. They are so thin you’ll never know your wearing them and I buy a natural tan colour.
I don’t manage well with fake tan it never looks good on me for some reason.
