Oh we miss Joules Yard, used to go for Sunday Lunch and music.

A bit selfish, but will go in next week and see if I can buy a couple of bargains.

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 15:12:43

Joules haven't been that original or good quality for AGES and there are so MANY original designers on Redbubble that I shop there instead. I will not miss Joules as I stopped shopping there when I realised that there were so many independent designers where I could shop instead.

I also like Brakeburn and find them to be less cliché than Joules.

J52

One of our local shops, a pity Joules Yard is shut as well.
I agree stuck in a rut, some products not so well made and they’ve obviously over invested in their new headquarters, Joules Barn.
They’re having massive sell offs, including one at Leicester race course.

When is the sell off J52 ? Might have to take a trip .

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 15:14:11

Sorry if that sounded rude. It's just my viewpoint, but I should have worded it better.

I thought I’d read somewhere that Joules were being absorbed into Next

That would be good, Next is the giant of online shopping. But I will miss going in the Joules shops.

I don't think so!
Next is a bully if you have to deal with them other than as a shopper.
I avoid them.

Purpledaffodil Mon 14-Nov-22 15:30:22

Argh! Have bought several Christmas presents from there already. Hope they fit the recipients. I have found quality to be still good, but perhaps that depends on the item?

maddyone Mon 14-Nov-22 15:38:11

I agree, all their styles are very similar. Haven’t bought anything from them for a good while.

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 15:40:13

I've always loved Next, but their customer service is appalling and some of the clothes in their stores are not that good. They look like they were produced in a sweatshop in Rochdale!

Doodledog Mon 14-Nov-22 15:43:18

I heard that there was a Mumsnet boycott of Joules because they converted changing rooms to mixed sex and had a giant trans flag in the window of a branch next to the venue of a feminist conference. I have no idea if that will have seen them off, but I find their clothes rather staid and very 'samey'. I have a coat from them, which is ok, but nothing special - just an anorak-style thing. They never seemed to settle on a demographic - maybe the same one as Boden? I see what you mean, Sarah74 - my coat is pretty boring, but some of the pink floral things are a bit toddler-like.

Hmmm this may be why my daughter can’t get their slippers in stock to buy for her sister. My oldest daughter does love their wellies and I had her cast off pair when she bought new, to wear in the garden. I hate wellies but our garden is very muddy in winter so was glad of a “free pair” so to speak.

I’m ambivalent about those style but agree they are quite flowery which is not really my taste

TwiceAsNice Mon 14-Nov-22 15:44:19

Sorry their not those

snowberryZ Mon 14-Nov-22 15:45:28

I've never liked their tops. Theyre too boxy and short. And whats with that wierd combo of 'stripes with flowers' that a lot of their tops have? Often worn by women of a certain age. Its the sort of thing that looks nice on the hanger but hideous when worn.

I do have a Joules coat that I bought years ago that I really like. The coat is plain with a flowery lining, which I quite like. And their gillets are good.

But those stripey tops where half the pattern is stripes and half is flowers? Just NOenvy

snowberryZ Mon 14-Nov-22 15:47:23

Even so, I'll be sad to see them go.

JaneJudge Mon 14-Nov-22 15:49:01

what a shame, I always used to buy their scarves as presents

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 15:57:24

What I meant to say is that some of the clothes in my local Next look like they were produced in a sweatshop in Rochdale (in the 1980's.)

They still have some really nice things, though the queue at the till was to take things back bought online, rather than anyone buying anything. Also, they can't get any staff in our Next, for some reason.

As long as there's no anchor!

TerriBull Mon 14-Nov-22 16:51:58

I haven't bought anything there for a while, a bit like Crew too expensive hence the permanent sales. Always getting emails from the latter to the effect, 25% off ending Saturday. A few days later there'll be another mail shot, 30% of selected items. These are pretty much continuous!

Blossoming Mon 14-Nov-22 16:53:36

Stella McCartney did a stripe t-shirt with flowers on for a charity. It was many years ago but it seems it’s still being copied but unfortunately without Stella’s panache.

I’m an old fashioned blue and white stripe lover.

OnwardandUpward Mon 14-Nov-22 16:55:25

I have one of those floral tops with the stripes. For a while they were SO PREDICTABLE. I ended up "matching" so many people every time I wore it, that I just stopped wearing it and never shopped at Joules ever again.

Here are some helpful links for anyone who wants 20% off gifts www.redbubble.com/g/coupons-deals-promotions (no I'm not on commission haha) but I do know that Redbubble is one of the places where you can get original art on clothes and gifts. For me it's important to not turn up matching anyone! grin

Have never been a Joules fan, a bit twee for my liking. It may go online for the future like many other shops.

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Nov-22 16:59:38

*SnowberryZ *Ah, ‘worn by women of a certain age’
That would be us then, maybe?

I know that we range from mid 40s to 90+

Blossoming Mon 14-Nov-22 17:08:19

I think this is the top FannyC. I found it in the eBay outlet store,

Joseanne Mon 14-Nov-22 17:09:35

And worn by dogs too, don't forget!

Patsy70 Mon 14-Nov-22 17:10:10

I have bought the striped Breton tops, but years ago, and certainly without the flowers. Yes, their styles don’t vary from year to year, so I no longer shop there. I do have a rather nice navy coat, with bright pink lining - a few years old now, but very cosy and still looks good.
