I have bought doggie tops from Joule but dislike patterned clothing and anorak type stuff so give it a miss for myself. Mind you, I also dislike Cath Kidson and Emma Bridgwater (too fussy and flowery). I like flowers in a bowl not all over my body.

DanniRae Tue 15-Nov-22 10:35:42

Blossoming

One can never have too many stripy tops! I’m wearing one now but it’s Lazy Jacks, not Joules.

I am wearing one too ........ but it's from Tu at Sainsburys. I love their clothes smile

M0nica Tue 15-Nov-22 10:39:27

I always like the look of Joules shops and advertising, but wenever I actual go in one to look for clothes the stock is always very limited and, in my eyes, dull and uninteresting.

Horizontal stripes aren't actually flattering to many figures though, are they, unless skinny. I still have my Trinny and Susannah book that says so (Pre Joules haha)

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Nov-22 12:13:02

No, the horizontal stripes = unflattering is a widely held misconception.
It’s actually vertical stripes that make you look wider, especially if they ‘bend’ due to your curves

Interesting Fanny. I hadn't considered that, although I feel that diagonal stripes might be even better?

I don't wear stripes much, to be honest.

Callistemon21 Tue 15-Nov-22 13:12:10

I like my horizontal stripes.

However, my Joules thin waterproof leaked.

Zebras seem to like stripes all round!

Nice to see you back with the herd Callistemon.

Callistemon21 Tue 15-Nov-22 15:20:46

🙂

The only zebra I have is pink grin

spabbygirl Tue 15-Nov-22 16:43:13

I used to love their clothes when they 1st started, they looked like they'd been taken from Sandersons wallpaper! I loved those & would still love more, but they stopped doing those in favour of flowers on a white/pale background, so unflattering & no use to country dwellers

The new CEO was a John Lewis manager.

Jonathon Brown commented: “I am delighted to have been selected to lead Joules at such an important time in its development. Joules is a very strong brand, with a highly relevant purpose and product proposition. The Group’s digitalisation in recent years as well as its increased customer base mean it has very solid foundations for the future

That was the optimistic statement from the new CEO in August 2022.

Oh no. I remember Joules before 'Joules' - when she had a little shop in her father's BricaBrac yard. A great shame.

Was her name Tom? confused

^Joules was founded by Tom Joule, and started out selling clothes at country shows in 1989^

I think Joule and Co? started out earlier still by Tom Joules' father.
There stalls at larger country shows in the 1970s I think.

I have bought the striped Breton tops, but years ago, and certainly without the flowers. Yes, their styles don’t vary from year to year, so I no longer shop there. I do have a rather nice navy coat, with bright pink lining - a few years old now, but very cosy and still looks good.

Patsy I think you have the same coat as me. The lining is lovely.
And not a stripe in sight!

From todays Business section of the DT

JOULES, the fashion brand once favoured by the Princess of Wales, is to appoint administrators after emergency fundraising talks failed
The retailer said it was “regrettably” preparing to appoint Interpath Advisory, putting about 1,600 jobs at risk
The announcement came after talks with investors, including founder Tom Joule, about an emergency cash infusion proved unsuccessful.
Yesterday, Joules said it planned to appoint Will Wright, Ryan Grant and Chris Pole of Interpath Advisory as administrators of Joules Limited and online-only sister business Garden Trading Company. “The board is taking this action to protect the interests of its creditors,” Joules said.
Shares were suspended pending the administrators’ appointment. The stock has collapsed more than 90pc since the start of the year as problems have mounted. Joules was worth a little over £10m at the time of its suspension, compared to £140m when it listed on London’s junior Aim stock market in 2016.
Mr Joule said it was “a deeply disappointing day for Joules, and a sad day for me personally”. He founded the business from a market stall in Market Harborough, Leics, in 1989.

Callistemon21 Tue 15-Nov-22 17:51:14

Yes, he took over renamed the business I think .
I'm sure it was his father who started out by selling clothing at country shows.

But perhaps it was a different Joule Company.

Nannashirlz Wed 16-Nov-22 11:22:13

I still buy from them now and again but on a bright note if your looking for a bargain got a brilliant sale at min just got my 4 grandkids all a coat and wellies for Christmas and I only went into shop for a look. I’d rather buy a better quality in a sale than full price and unfortunately over the next 12-18 months we going to see many more going down

Beau1958 Wed 16-Nov-22 11:31:37

Sad to see Joules go, I love the children's clothes. We have two Joules shops in our high street I hope now they won’t turn into charity shops, such a shame.

Keffie12 Wed 16-Nov-22 11:33:51

Uh! Not my type of shop at all. Then I have my own unique style. Colourful apinkies boho/punk styles.

Yes a little bit edgy and different. Not for everyone. Good job we are not all the same.

Then again I don't do high street standard clothing as you will have guessed.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Nov-22 11:36:10

Apinkies certainly are unusual Keffie, even the un-colourful type smile

MawtheMerrier Wed 16-Nov-22 11:42:15

I’ve just tried to Google Apinkies and am none the wiser.
Help /clarification please?

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Nov-22 11:44:12

Evidently not for the likes of us in our Sea Salt frocks Maw!

Scottiebear Wed 16-Nov-22 11:47:06

That's a shame. I like Joules. Best jacket I've ever had came from there on line at beginning of first COVID lockdown.

GardenofEngland Wed 16-Nov-22 11:50:57

Their children's clothes for girls are nice enough but I dislike their other stuff but have to say I loath Kath Kidson more!
Reminds me of IKEA ad chuck out your chintz.
