It isn’t my style, but….

I just came across this rather cheerful looking 70 year old lady on Instagram. She makes most of her own clothes, from vintage fabrics. Not my style, but I do think she looks great, and colourful!

I love the red coat, my Seasalt red coat is one of my favourite things. I love yellow but it doesn’t suit me at all, with my colouring it makes me look washed out!

I love this Joanie Clothing dress but could never wear it. It would be wearing me grin

I know those curtains well!
They were from M&S (St Michael) and also came in pink, with a matching bedspread, and wallpaper!
My mom had the orange, and my Nan the pink.

You’re right easybee. We had similar. Brown and yellow was all the rage then. We also had some ghastly orange kitchen cabinets.

Oh Blossoming, that is fabulous!
I’m sure that you’d look beautiful in it, with your similar hair, and I believe that you’ve got the cleavage for it to!
I’ve never seen that website before, thank you

I love the whole look on her. She looks very individual and I am sure she would be a really interesting friend to have. I dress much more boringly I’m afraid. Good for her.

snowberryZ Sat 19-Nov-22 11:21:19

That yellow combo is hideous and makes her look deranged. A bit like Grayson Perry (think that's his name confused)

Nightsky2 Sat 19-Nov-22 11:22:51

She’s certainly adventurous. I don’t like the stripy socks with the red sandals which I wore when I was about 7 and the yellow outfit is messy looking. It’s not my style but good luck to her.

The middle pic isn't too bad and looks like some thought has been put into it.

We had the yellow Fanny. The sheets are long gone but I still have the pillowcases.

isn't it strange ?.. I think the first picture has beautiful clothes yet the outfit makes her look old and eccentric.. yet the picture of her wearing red, makes her look young.. and admittedly eccentric..

nadateturbe Sat 19-Nov-22 11:42:50

I have a friend who dresses like that. She's very happy and confident and interesting.
Not for me. I wouldn't have the courage.
I bought this because I love it, but rarely wear it.
I admire people who wear whatever they like.

Dawn Porter ( the lady in the yellow dress) is an absolute genius with second hand clothing.

Millie22 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:02:43

I like the scarf in picture 3 but if she's happy that's all that matters.

Calendargirl Sat 19-Nov-22 12:08:53

She looks better in the red as the colours ‘go’.

In the yellow one, she looks like a fairly smart bag lady, all clashing colours and styles.

J52 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:11:25

A bit tooooo for me, but if you can carry it off, why not.
It’s lovely to see people in bright colours. I tend to stick to a scarf or jumper for a brighter look.
Love the red boots, I might have to find some.

nanna8 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:15:02

She looks fine- more interesting than many. I don't particularly like her colour schemes but if she likes it that's all that matters.

MawtheMerrier Sat 19-Nov-22 12:21:55

Interesting and eclectic, but sadly I think the little shawl is very ageing- but it would not be so on a 20- something . I think as we get older I think we need to be “bigger and bolder” with our accessories (and before I get shot down, yes, I do know it gets harder too!)

Hellogirl1 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:27:10

I think she looks great, wish I was brave enough to dress like that.

Hetty58 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:40:34

She looks happy and comfortable in her colourful outfits - oh, and her own, individual style shows confidence and enjoyment of life. It's a refreshing change from the usual 'good taste, elegant' etc. (that's always boring) - or the simply plain boring (with no thought) stuff that older women tend to wear.

Hetty58 Sat 19-Nov-22 12:41:52

and - it shows just how important it is - to wear a smile!

Theexwife Sat 19-Nov-22 12:51:10

Looks interesting in a photo with a sympathetic background, however in the middle of Tesco would cause stares and comments.

Kandinsky Sat 19-Nov-22 12:59:06

It’s not a great look on an older woman.
The ‘old eccentric’ look works on
very few people ( & you literally have to be Vivienne Westwood to pull it off )
Why can’t women dress ‘boring’ as we get older? Men do.

fairfraise Sat 19-Nov-22 13:13:24

I remember that floral pattern in a bedspread my mother had, in pink. We have just stripped 3 layers of paper here and found a 70s paper in yellow and brown and orange squares similar in colour to the dress in the first pic.

I had that bed set in pale mauve.
