The “perfect” white cotton T shirt

Does it exist?
Unpacking my summer clothes I find I have a ridiculous number of white T shirts - none of them just right - and the result of my endless quest for the perfect one.
Is it too much to ask?
Thick white cotton - pure cotton, not “cotton rich”
Round neck - not too high, not too scooped, boat neck acceptable
Reasonable length
Generously cut around the middle - boxy shape ideal
Side slits
Short or just above the elbow sleeves.
Adding up all the T shirts I have got, some now relegated to pj status, I could have bought one or two from a high end designer for the same money!
I don’t necessarily want cheap T shorts, they never last anyway, but I am still hunting.
Any suggestions please?

I am on the hunt for the perfect white t shirt too. I hesitate to buy them online as I want to feel them and try on for fit. I have been disappointed in the past and had the faff of sending them back. I want pure white cotton (not ‘soft white!) nice and thick, not too high a crew neck (a high ‘scoop’ neck would do) and please not ‘relaxed’. I want it to vaguely follow my shape while not being too clingy. So many t shirts these days are so baggy and are impossible to wear neatly under a jacket or sleeveless ‘tank’ top.

Cotton Traders is the way to go, love them!

callistemon myUniqlo white t-shirt supima cotton £14.99 size M measures 62 cm (24.5 inches) from centre back of neck to hem. Tucks in nicely. I’m 5 ft 6 inches. They do a short t shirt , currently £9.99, which I like for wearing underneath things, layers etc. which isn’t intended to tuck in.

Totally agree. I also need a nice quality black too. M&S used to have nice ones at a bit higher price but theirs are all thin now. Years ago I bought a nice quality black and white in Sainsburys Save-a-Centre in St Albans but every T-shirt everywhere are now really thin, even the expensive ones. Or they have silly designs.

Thanks vegansrock, I'll measure some of my old ones as comparison.
I was 5' 5" but I've shrunk ☹

I bought a pack of men's white cotton T shirt vests from Matalan. They are nice and thick and have kept their shape and whiteness through many washes. www.matalan.co.uk/clothing/2-pack-white-t-shirt-vests/143

This seems a ludicrous price to me, but The Times reckons these are the “perfect T shirts”…….

These look really lovely. I like the slightly longer sleeves. Very tidy.

Almost given up, I can’t keep the necks white, always spill something down them including sun screen, so I’m looking for sun screen coloured. I prefer Tu t shirts crew neck.

The necks on my Tu t shirts always go funny. I bought some in a panic once because the colours were great but was disappointed by the neckline.

I love Tu clothes generally.

M&S used to do a good plain cotton t-shirt with slightly longer sleeves.
I bought three last year but blowed if I can find them this season (we are in chaos here at the moment).

I have this one which is a bit more pricey but holds its shape beautifully, covers my bingo wings and is thicker than the cheaper ones

I feel your pain! By accident I discovered H&M white T shirts when I bought one from a charity shop. It’s quite thick with longer sleeves, and a ribbed appearance. I can even wear a dark bra underneath. My other favourites are the M&S ‘slim’ t shirts (with longer sleeves.) They are £8.50. M&S do a nice T shirt (ribbed) with buttons down from the neck and longer sleeves. This gives it a bit of detail. Nice, slim fit. £15 each

COS do brilliant t shirts. I have bought several. They fit your description of what you require. I have washed them several times, they keep their shape and don't twist. The white one is still white. Price about £25.00 for the thicker cotton, thinner cotton is about £15.00.

Good to know.

Thank you - slim fit is sometimes difficult to find.

Another vote for Cotton Traders.

Hi all,

I’ve recently come across Supima cotton T-shirts at Uniqlo UK, and I’m curious about your thoughts on them. I read that they’re very soft, durable, and not thin or floppy compared to regular cotton.

Currently, Uniqlo has:

Standard Supima cotton T-shirts for £14.99 (available in colours like white, acid yellow, etc.)

Shorter-length versions on offer for £9.99, which people recommend wearing under dungarees or with high-waisted jeans.

Has anyone here bought them?

Do you find them good value for money compared to regular cotton tees?

How do they hold up after a few washes?

Any other UK retailers you’d recommend for Supima cotton at a similar or better price?

Would love to hear your experiences before I stock up for summer.

I don't know anything about Uniqlo T shirts but I have a down jacket and down coat from them and I can vouch for the quality and value for money.

I don’t suppose I’m the only one who’d prefer cream T shirts, if I could ever find any, preferably with elbow length sleeves. Seasalt are great for stripey pure cotton ones - I wish they’d do the same in plain.
