Sick of stripes!

One reason I am looking forward to autumn and winter will be that I can consign all my stripey t shirts and tops to the bags destined for the loft!
Yes I know there are alternatives- but I find most florals “mumsy” and abstracts tend to feature only in the more expensive ranges. And a t shirt is a t shirt is a t shirt!
So bye bye Bretons, and so long stripes.

I love stripes and if it’s good enough for Joanie, it’s good enough for me!

CanadianGran Wed 23-Aug-23 19:46:38

I like stripes as well, but really only have 1 long sleeved t-shirt, not a proper breton.

They don't seem as ubiquitous here. Most of my t-shirts are v-neck solid colour.

I just looked in my wardrobe, I have 4! All fairly old and all good quality and all different. Long sleeves, short sleeves, scoop neck, crew neck, buttoned Henley type neck.

I have some lovely plain t-shirts in various colours from Rapanui. Good quality cotton, wash and wear really well.

I have just bought a black and white striped shirt dress. It looks classy. Well I think it does.
I got rid of all my Breton tops!

I've browsed the shops today and there are loads of stripey shirts and jumpers, so no need to say goodbye for the winter.

In any shop, I head unerringly for the stripe.... how I wish I looked like Joan Collins in them : sadly its more "Phil Collins fat sister".

Juliet27 Thu 24-Aug-23 07:29:30

I don’t mind a stripe or two but I never buy anything with a logo. Once, leaving the dentist’s after having a tooth removed, I bumped straight into a man wearing a GAP t shirt - yes, thanks for reminding me! 🥴

Can’t stand the roses over stripes (Joules)?
What’s that about?

annodomini Thu 24-Aug-23 10:49:06

I've seen those 'roses over stripes' tops and my main reaction was 'why?' I have lots of tee-shirts in plain colours and only two with stripes -both white and navy. What I'm wearing today will depend on what is waiting to be washed and what is still in the drawer! I also have two spotty tops. There must be something wrong with those!

Stripes and checks are my absolute go to. Love them. Such a variety of colourways and designs. Absolutely love the feel good factor they give me. Florals are so Mumsy for me but I am aware that's the current fashion.

I like my stripes neat.

Please don't try to water them down with flowers. Flowers are a different thing altogether and don't belong on stripes in my opinion.

I bought a striped long sleeved top, in red, white and blue for the Jubilee and wore it again for the Coronation - our little estate had a bit of a do.
Last weekend I saw a lady wearing the same item - she was about the same size and build as me and it looked awful. When I got home I tried mine on again and yes - it certainly did me no favours! I’m glad I’d only worn it to be patriotic for the day but it’s gone in the charity bag now.
I’ll stick to plain colours.

They belong in the same place as skirts with elasticated waists 😱

I don't have (and never owned) any striped clothing. I have plain t-shirts and lots of flowery tops, dresses and trousers. I don't like animal prints either (leopard, zebra, tiger etc.)

cornergran Fri 25-Aug-23 08:39:54

Well, no hope here it seems. I have many striped tops, some complete with flowers and enjoy wearing them all. Always different that’s me grin.

aggie Fri 25-Aug-23 08:43:24

I’ve just packed my case for a few days away , all floral or striped T-shirts !
I look awful in solid colours ! I wear floaty scarves with solid colour jackets and coats to break them up !

Abitbarmy Fri 25-Aug-23 08:45:02

My DH says horizontal “stripes” aren’t stripes but hoops if ever I describe them as such. Pedant!

Redhead56 Fri 25-Aug-23 08:45:29

I never wear striped clothing I dislike stripes and always have. Floral is more me in natural colours that can be worn all year around.

Redhead56 Fri 25-Aug-23 08:46:21

Forgot to add I dislike animal prints too.

pascal30 Fri 25-Aug-23 10:39:59

I've never worn stripes.. I like a mix of plain, similar tone colours

Millie22 Fri 25-Aug-23 11:29:01

No stripes for me either. Always remind me of deckchairs.

Florals, polka dot or plain.

HelterSkelter1 Fri 25-Aug-23 11:41:34

Loved the mention of Clothkits. I have a picture of me in a striped pale blue and white tee shirt and my 2 girls as tiddlers on the Isle of Wight.
They are in their 40s now. But they lived in Clothkits clothes. Such good quality. Two beautifully printed knitted dresses were eventually passed on to a friend's daughters and again onto others afterwards. Sorry to derail for a moment.

SachaMac Fri 25-Aug-23 11:49:30

I quite like a black and white or navy and white stripe T shirt but don’t like the Joules type stripey/floral look.

kittylester Fri 25-Aug-23 11:52:31

There was a Cloth kits knitted dress that did the rounds in our group. It appears in lots of photos with lots of different children wearing it - including 2 of our daughters. I have no idea who bought it - might have been me! There was also a pink corduroy pinafore dress that appears quite a lot.

There is no hope for me - I've just ordered 2 Boden stripy tops.

Foxygloves Fri 25-Aug-23 13:18:15

Oh don’t get me started on the joy that was Clothkits!
Those little T shirt dresses with matching knickers, the scandi- look knitted dresses with coordinating woolly tights .The corduroy pinafores with coordinating jumpers AND tights
And there was stuff for me too!
I loved the fact that everything came in 3 or 4 colourways, with three daughters they each had their own- D1 usually had the bright primary shade, D2 the softer blue or maybe purple and D3 the pastel option. And of course the quality was so good everything could be passed down and lasted for years.
