To Kate 1949: I made a 'new' friend recently and was astonished when she lifted off her hair; it was a wig. I really had no idea.

Apparently this lady buys wigs on-line from the States and they are very inexpensive. I think they cost around £20.00 each, obviously plus postage.

There is too much talk about hair. As someone with alopecia totalis (total hair loss) it makes me weep.

Kate my friend is like you, so I know how devestating it can be.
However, a few years ago, she started wearing wigs (not cheap), but at eighty years ols, she looks fabulous. You would never know she is wearing one.

I will never forget the night when my dear friend, dying of cancer, removed her wig in front of our small group of friends, because she felt comfortable to to it.
We didn't realise, she was saying goodbye. She did a few days later. .

My hair is (probably) medium-length. With strategically-placed hair combs I can make it look short. I do think long hair is easier to manage rather than short, but, to be honest, at 93 am grateful I still have hair!

Thank you Candelle and Mary. I am sorry about your friend. I have a hair system which is expensive but amazing but has to be taken off regularly for conditioning and I am totally bald. It is the psychological effect of my hair loss that is the hardest to deal with, especially since I had all my teeth removed aged 11 through neglect.

Apart from today, I have stopped posting on GN as I realise I have become bitter and this was showing in my posts. I also tend to make all the threads I post on about me, as I have done here. I should be ashamed (and I am) as there are people on here going through horrendous things.

Kate, please don't stop posting. I haven't posted all week, (until today) because I was very unwell and I realised that I was allowing my constant ill health to define who I was and it was reflected in my posts.
I didn't want to seem to be constantly moaning, so withdrew.

However, I have been overwhelmed by the kind posts from people, who have missed me and sent good wishes.
There are lots of posters on GN, who genuinely care and will not judge you.
I can totally understanding how you are feeling. No need to apologise. 💐

Oh Kate1949 you don't seem any more bitter than the next poster. I enjoyed your comments recently on the Strictly thread, it was good fun. We all make threads about us, I know I do and (apparently!) sometimes sound boastful, when it isn't that all. I know others are going through horrendous things, I've had my fair share in the past, and can understand.
I hope we can all find some enjoyment in each other's threads and lift morale.
PS I've decided not to brave the coiffeur in France for a beauty queen chop after all! Another time.

It is easy for those who haven’t suffered with any of the problems and issues that others have to underestimate how they feel, whether it be hair, weight, ailments, family concerns, anything really.

Sometimes we all need to walk in another’s shoes to understand.

Kate, I’m so pleased to see you posting again. I’ve missed you. You have never come across to me as bitter, but Lord knows you have reason enough. I remember the photo of your lovely hair which you posted a while back. Whatever it costs you, it’s worth every penny.

Oh, I just had mine cut the other day.
The hairdresser was a bit scissor-happy because she was in a rush.
It was so easy to style myself 🙂

I nearly lost mine through taking a certain medication years ago but I was fortunate and it grew back.
I shouldn't moan about it being unmanageable.

'Inclusivity and diversity'? Hardly; she is typically French. I was surprised to see some of the news headlines, "A Victory for Diversity'. The previous year's winner who was from Guadaloupe would have a better claim for that victory.

Yes, it is unusual for a model/pageant winner to have short hair, but that hardly makes her diverse. She is very beautiful, and I do think that many women suit short hair. Femininity should not be defined by the length of one's hair. (apologies if I have misused the apostrophe.)

She looks fabulous- and thank goodness for a change from the 'clone' long hair look. As for older women with luscious long hair where you can see the 'dead' hair length and clips, noooo.
