Elle est belle, Miss France. 🇫🇷

I'm in France at the moment. There seems to be some celebration, and an underlying pride, here about the winner of Miss World. Not just because she is beautiful, which she really is, but because France bit by bit is nudging towards choosing a candidate with a "difference" to represent them. Inclusivity I guess. No longer the flowing locks, but a chic pixie hair style.
Actually, as I look round here in France, I'm guessing around 75% of females, other than the younger ones, are sporting a short hair cut. Maybe time to pop into the coiffeur to chop my long bob?
A style to copy GNs if you like it?

Please keep posting Kate and Marydoll. All opinions help me to keep perspective on life which is one of the things I like about GN. As for lovely Miss France, the haircut is the least of a very long list of things which separate us...

Well, it looks fine on her, but do any of us look as glam as her?
Short haircuts can look a bit brutal on older women.

Oh, I just had mine cut the other day.
The hairdresser was a bit scissor-happy because she was in a rush.
It was so easy to style myself 🙂

Do I look like Rosa Klebb now?

😂 I don’t know, you’ll have to post a pic.Tho you really should stop wearing those shoes with knives in the toe caps.

Don't mess with me wink

Actually, mine's gone more curly and uncontrollable than ever now! The damp weather doesn't help.

I have a friend with complete hair loss through cancer treatment Kate and she completely embraces it and has never worn anything on her head Takes courage but she looks good
Try not to define yourself by your lack of hair I m sure you look lovely but it is a bugger isn’t it we women take so much pride in our manes
My son decided at 28 that he was never going to go bald and has shaved his head ever since He looks good

A shaved head looks bald to me 🤔

Please keep posting, we all have our moans and groans and pet hates and this is the place for them. I will let uou into a secret, Kate and Marydoll; I don't like Boris Johnson, but I think I have managed to keep it quiet?

When I'm out and aboutI can't help but notice how hairstyles on both young and old all seem to look the same. Standard style long, with highlights of some sort or full colouring. I did have long flowing locks until in 40s then decided I didn't have time for all the messing about with is it best to turn in or out, long, short or no fringe and then the hours and cost of highlights. I went for a Bob. Massive difference and improvement. Only couple of years ago I went for a style with more shape. Never had so many complements on how good it was and how young it made me look. Think the hair products companies and pop stars have a lot to answer for in that they seem to dictate how we should all look. I do like a man with hair longer than the standard cut.

Vive la difference! The only one in the group with short hair which is why she stood out amongst the rest I suppose.

I had a short haircut after chemo and I found it very difficult to manage. My hair is wavy in places, curly or straight in other bits of it so it sticks out just where you don't want it to. I currently have a medium bob which covers the back bit where it never grew back properly, I wash it, leave it to dry, run over it with the straighteners which takes less than 5 minutes and that's all it needs till the next time I wash it in 3-4 days time. I'd love a pixie cut but it wouldn't work on me.

Voilà

There is no accounting for taste, but that young woman would not be my choice for Miss France or Miss anything else.

She has a nice smile, but beautiful?

Not in my book. I could find a dozen like her in any major city, and a dozen far more beautiful.

However, congratulations Miss France, if indeed it is anything to be congratulated upon. My 1970 Women's lib soul shouts that all these competitions are demeaning to the female sex - and to the male one as well, as if they didn't have a say in it these beauty parades would have died out by now.

I hope Miss France has a good solid education, as well as a short hair-cut, nice smile and a dress bordering on sleazy. Or if she hasn't a good education, then there is prize money enough to pay for one.

I thought these beauty contests were a thing of the past.

I thought these beauty contests were a thing of the past.

Yep, me too. I’m rather surprised that the normally chic and up to the minute French still go in for this sort of thing. It has a 1970s feel about it.

MerylStreep Wed 20-Dec-23 15:13:44

Put the claws away, grandtante
FYI Eve Gilles studied mathematics at Lille university. Not quite the brain dead bimbo you mistakenly think she is.

lizzypopbottle Wed 20-Dec-23 15:27:31

Oreo Mine. Brutal? I don't think so!

lizzypopbottle Wed 20-Dec-23 15:29:58

I think it was a judging panel of twelve women. I read that somewhere...

Callistemon21 Wed 20-Dec-23 15:35:14

I think she looks gorgeous and quite natural. She is made up, yes, but hasn't got the pumped up lips etc favoured by many young women today.

As for a solid education, as MerylStreep says, she is a mathematician- is that suitably acceptable as a career?

Of course, she may never need to use her degree if other opportunities arise.

Delila Wed 20-Dec-23 16:05:28

The style suits her, but short hair with that thick heavy fringe, possibly grey, no thanks.

Joseann Wed 20-Dec-23 17:23:12

I think I was interested to hear comments about short hair now becoming universally in vogue or de rigueur thanks to a beauty contest winner in possibly the most elegant country.
Anyway, prompted to think along different lines, I checked:
Miss England 2021 - NHS doctor
Miss England 2022 - Genetics Graduate, speaks four languages
Miss England 2023 - Aeronatics Engineer
All have long hair, see photo.
I'm about to leave France for home now with my longer hair intact!

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 20-Dec-23 17:28:05

My longer hair will also remain intact!

Oreo Wed 20-Dec-23 18:45:55

lizzypopbottle I stand by my view on really short hair on older women.

Kate1949 Wed 20-Dec-23 18:53:29

If my hair grew back, which it won't, I would never, ever have it short. In fact I would grow it down to my feet!
