Hi all, my son is getting married this August. I'm not a fan of clothes shopping. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could buy a dress suitable for the mother of the groom in UK?
There is a thriving second hand market. Some of the outfits are way over the top and the hats or ‘hatinators’ as big as cartwheels but there are some nice toned down offerings. The price of the top brands when new are eye-watering but reasonable second or third hand. Most are not likely to be worn more than once. Just Google MOB outfits.
I recycled a silk suit that I already had in my wardrobe and had worn once before for a special occasion.
I spoke to the bride, and her mother in advance, and they were quite happy. As they said, if I hadn't have told them, they would not have known the suit was not new.
I’m also mother of the groom in July Ive been looking since Christmas for an outfit mines a beach wedding so no high heels unless I want to sink lol I’m thinking of wearing a hat as if it’s crazy sunny it will keep sun off me. I’ve yet to decide what outfit I don’t wear dresses often but I’m thinking of surprising my sons and wearing one. I asked bride about colours and she said whatever you like. I’ve asked what her mum is wearing and all I get told she doesn’t know so just hope we don’t clash on the wedding day
I recycled a unstructured silk suit I had bought for a previous event and worn once. I added some braid round the jacket edge, new blouse and shoes. mentioned it to mother of the bride. She had no problems wth me doing that. I also dispensed with the hat and had my hairdresser put my hair in a french pleat with flowers in it.
What does it matter what you wear, providing you look nice and feel comfortable.
