Hairy Legs No More 😂

I have very pale skin and very dark leg hair.

I have tried numerous creams, razors and epilators with limited success and many problems thanks to visual impairment, shaky hands and a tendency to bleed copiously from the slightest scratch

MrB has a handy circular rechargeable electric shaver to use on his (rapidly balding) head and neck and it looked like it would do the trick, so I bought one. It’s a game changer, a couple of minutes and I have beautifully smooth hairless legs, no horrible chemical smell and no bleeding.

Has anyone else used one?

A very long time ago : I bought an Epilady and spent hours ripping out the hairs on my arms and legs .
My skin is very fair and the hairs were dark .
It hurt !
The new epilators are much better .
But as a result of all that ripping - I have no hair on those areas .

I have no hairs on my legs now - they've just stopped growing. Some compensation I suppose for the thinning hair on my head

I’ve always been naturally blonde and have basically never had any leg/arm hairs to get rid of
I m lucky because my dad had thick blond hair till the day he died at 92 never lost any of it and my hair is still thick and I just went from blonde to whiter blonde
Judging by friends I ve saved a lot of money and time and effort
That’s probably the only thing I ve been lucky with 🤣🤣🤣

One minor blessing of the menopause, I don't have any hair on my legs anymore so faffing around with hair removal is a thing of the past. Luckily the hair on my head is still fairly thick.

I used to have a beauty salon and we had an IPL machine. I had one leg treated so show my clients how good it was. I never got round to having the other one done so now I have one hairy and one hairless leg!

A few years ago I bought my husband a battery shaver and he was really impressed with it. Eventually it dawned on me that something similar might suit me.
Amazing. So quick and efficient. Why did it take me decades to realise?

I use an epilator, it’s really old, but does the job. We once (20 odd years ago) epilated a friends arm, a very hairy male, he’d said he didn’t think it would hurt much, he lasted 5 seconds!

I have no idea where all my body hair has gone, perhaps it is an old age thing. I still have a very thick head of hair and still have eyebrows but I am as bald as a coot everywhere else.

Sounds perfect, Blossoming - can you recommend a brand please? Otherwise it’ll have to be Veet or similar again, before I venture into a swimsuit this summer.

Blossoming Tue 23-Apr-24 09:49:41

I got mine off Amazon Witzend, there are several different ones. The brand of mine is DOAO.

I've gone bald everywhere except for my head, strangely.
And the odd whisker on my chin. grin

Interesting that so many people have little or no body hair and thinning hair on their heads post menopause. I still have a good thick head of hair, my underarm hair is quite sparse now but my leg hair just carries right on growing. I don’t need to pluck my eyebrows now, they have settled into a pleasing curve. Apparently it’s an effect of thyroid disease.

At the age of 77 I still have very thick black body and facial hair. Last week I had to go for a knee scan, so thought I had better shave off the winter's growth on my legs. I could have stuffed a cushion with what I caught in the plug hole trap! I use a wet razor, don't think I would have the patience to use an electric. When I tried an epilator I couldn't stand the pain despite putting the head in the freezer first.

I used an epilator for many years but suddenly I started to have a lot of in growing hair and had to stop
Oh and blame prednisolone again When on it leg hairs all but disappeared

I have thinning, if no hair everywhere Except for my face which could easily sport a full beard in a fortnight if I ignored it.

Over decades I have tried electrolysis waxing and threading, shaved once, ( never again, )creams and potions, none have worked and most are painful so every week I cut them off, using a magnified mirror; downside is it leaves a stubbly face.

I'm still quite hairy and shave my legs in the summer. My arms have lots of golden hair. I often wonder if I should shave it off. Do any of you lovely ladies shave your arms?

Blossoming Tue 23-Apr-24 12:38:58

Shysal I still have scars from attempts to use a wet razor 😂. My new shaver only takes about a minute per leg.

I had an epilator, it was painful and can break the skin if not used carefully. My weak shaky hands don’t really do carefully.

Farmgran the hair on my arms is fair and fine and I’ve never bothered to remove it.

You have persuaded me, yours sounds quick! I have ordered a 5 head one from Ebay. It is nice that it can be used wet or dry.

Mine is a more traditional shaped one but also very, very quick and painless, even the first time, when I would have compared it to strimming undergrowth. Over the years I have wet shaved, used an epilater, waxed and used creams. I could not believe that nobody had ever told me about electric shavers.

I'm another who was cured of body hair by the menopause. I had no other symptoms apart from cessation of periods. Result!

Rusume Thu 25-Apr-24 11:50:03

During lockdown I treated myself to a handheld IPL machine. It was expensive at around £250 but what a game changer! From being quite hairy I now have no hair at all on my legs and don't ever have to think about them when the nice weather starts. At 69 I dont know what took me so long!

Lookout01 Thu 25-Apr-24 12:04:54

I have a full head of natural non coloured hair (no grey yet!) no underarm hair at all, sparse hairs on my legs but I've lost my eyebrows unfortunately 😭 a good pencil does the job

DeeAitch56 Thu 25-Apr-24 13:15:17

I never was particularly hairy, but as I’ve got older I have even less, in so much that I’ve not needed to shave my armpits or anywhere else for over four years now

Anneeba Thu 25-Apr-24 14:16:47

Has anyone experience of Vogoe women's electric shaver please?
