Hairy Legs No More 😂

I have very pale skin and very dark leg hair.

I have tried numerous creams, razors and epilators with limited success and many problems thanks to visual impairment, shaky hands and a tendency to bleed copiously from the slightest scratch

MrB has a handy circular rechargeable electric shaver to use on his (rapidly balding) head and neck and it looked like it would do the trick, so I bought one. It’s a game changer, a couple of minutes and I have beautifully smooth hairless legs, no horrible chemical smell and no bleeding.

Has anyone else used one?

I got mine off Amazon Witzend, there are several different ones. The brand of mine is DOAO.

Thank you. I've just ordered one. I'm so sick of fumbling around in the bath trying to catch leg hairs with a wet razer!

The cream makes my skin react and an epilator I tried several years ago was horrendous.

I had no idea that men's head shavers were 'a thing'!

Alison333. I’ve just been looking at old Style & Beauty threads and found this to be interesting. Would you recommend this product? I use the Intuition shaver, but like you am fed up ‘fumbling around in the bath’! 😂 I used an epilator years ago, but found it painful. It would just be for my legs, as there isn’t much hair anywhere else, other than my head. I hope you see my post. 😊

One of the (very few) benefits of getting older has, for me at any rate, been the virtual disappearance of body hair- - legs, arms, pubic hair, armpits.
What little remains is so as to be virtually invisible and pale (grey I suppose) but I haven’t had to shave or wax in living memory.

Was the shaver you liked this one?

So sorry, only just seen this. The shaver I have is the 5 head one, as per the photo in my initial post.

Thanks Pamela that’s what I thought. I used to have them waxed but for several years now I’ve used an epilator plus shaving.

I have always had plenty of hair whereever it grew. At 80, the hair on my legs has fined down and the luxuriant hair on my head thinned a bit. But as for the rest, it is as luxuriant as ever.

Facially were it not for the electrolysis, which I have now been having off and on for 40 year,s left to itself I would have a beard to rival my DH's nautical full set. The electrolysis works, but as one set of hairs is cleared, another set of hairs springs up. My upperlip and chin area have been clear for years, but now it is the hairs on my cheeks and into my ears that are flourishing.

tickingbird no it won’t work well. The light is attracted to the dark pigment in the hair and gets down to the root. This is one instance when dark body hair has an advantage over blond.

Unfortunately age hasn’t had that effect on me. I’m hairy and would love to have hairless legs. I have never tried IPL as believe it doesn’t work well on blonde or fair hair. Has anyone tried it with blonde hairy legs?

One of the perks of growing older is hair loss. I realized one day I don’t need to shave my legs, underarms anymore. 🤪 It just kind of creeps up on you. Delirious over that! Showers go much faster.

So few hairs on my legs these days so I just pluck them with eyebrow tweezers
Easy peasy !

I'm a blonde, now evolving to lighter blonde. My head-hair is healthy, long, not thinning. Have had leg hair and armpit hair when I was younger but now hardly anything grows anymore. I can wait a few months before shaving - more to be sure - and then use a Venus blade. I'm 66.

Never had particularly hairy legs or arms. Menopause got rid of what was there. Lovely and smooth now.

Greciangirl Thu 25-Apr-24 16:02:21

My leg hair and underarm hair stopped growing a few years ago now.
I used to have very dark hair so it’s somewhat of a bonus not having to shave anymore.

Also, I have hardly any eyebrows.

I would definitely recommend an epilator and / or IPL machine. It takes time to show results but definitely worth the wait. From thick dark hairs on my legs there are just a very few fine ones left. Shaving made my legs itch and the regrowth so stubbly. Creams are messy. No contest for me.

I had to have some complicated surgery on my legs, 40 odd years ago, and my legs were coated with some sort of slimy fluid and shaved a couple of times a day for 3 days before the operations. Result - ( apart from the successful outcome of the surgery). - no hair growth on my legs ever again and very shiny legs. What the slimy stuff was , I don’t know, but it should be marketed by the NHS . It would make a forhtuns.

..

I bought an epilator a decade ago for my legs. Fabulous. Only get a few occasional very light hairs now.

But for years I've been trying every wax, hot/cold/strips, for chin and lip hairs. They were fair but after razor shaving they became dark and brittle. Awful.

I then realised that an accessory with my depilator was for exactly that purpose.
It doesn't hurt any more than waxing (less in fact) and only needs doing every few weeks.

Much less hairs now and no awful dark stubble. I reckon that they'll all be gone within the year.

Can't believe I've had the accessory for 10+years and didn't realised - but that's what happens when you don't read the instructions!!!

I am glad you found something that works,

I finally have done so too, after years of trying safety razors, electric shavers, etc.etc. There are so many, and you just have to find the one that suits you.

I still have plenty of hair on my legs an my pubic area, a nice moustache if I don't keep at it, beetling eyebrows, but oddly enough no hair under my arms any longer and much thinner hair on my head than ever before.

Life is strange, isn't it?

I have no hairs on my legs now - they've just stopped growing. Some compensation I suppose for the thinning hair on my head

Me too and none under my arms. It’s one benefit of aging.

Romola Thu 25-Apr-24 14:31:30

I used to use wax straps on my legs but am loath to do this now as my skin has thinned with age. I don't like razors because of the stubble so I've gone over to creams, not so convenient but safe I think.
Should I consider an epilator?

Anneeba Thu 25-Apr-24 14:16:47

Has anyone experience of Vogoe women's electric shaver please?

DeeAitch56 Thu 25-Apr-24 13:15:17

I never was particularly hairy, but as I’ve got older I have even less, in so much that I’ve not needed to shave my armpits or anywhere else for over four years now

Lookout01 Thu 25-Apr-24 12:04:54

I have a full head of natural non coloured hair (no grey yet!) no underarm hair at all, sparse hairs on my legs but I've lost my eyebrows unfortunately 😭 a good pencil does the job

Rusume Thu 25-Apr-24 11:50:03

During lockdown I treated myself to a handheld IPL machine. It was expensive at around £250 but what a game changer! From being quite hairy I now have no hair at all on my legs and don't ever have to think about them when the nice weather starts. At 69 I dont know what took me so long!

lizzypopbottle Thu 25-Apr-24 11:23:27

I'm another who was cured of body hair by the menopause. I had no other symptoms apart from cessation of periods. Result!
