There’s a GNet article about best primers to buy but the cheapest is around £25, so can anyone recommend one that’s around £10 or under and does the job well?

Do you mean paint or makeup primer?
I am looking for eyeshadow primer if anyone can suggest a good one please 👍🏻

I use Urban Decay eye primer as it’s flesh coloured (some are white), very effective and not tested on animals.

I'm 79 and have used a cheap primer with no makeup on top. I got compliments. The more you put on, the more awful the skin looks.

I agree. I just use primer over moisturiser and sunscreen. I think foundation on older skin looks dreadful, very false.

Are the recommended primers white or clear? I bought a Fix & Protect primer in boots which is thick and white, really like poly filler and hated it, but then found Smashbox Original Photo Finish Primer which is clear and so smooth to apply, I love that one, but it is expensive. Would love to find something like that but cheaper.Any idea of which ones fit that description?

I agree, I usually wear very little on my skin as it can make me look as if I'm wearing a mask. If I'm making more of an effort for a special occasion I use a light concealer in the correct colour where necessary. As I have dry skin I find that makeup including powder eyeshadow will stay put without primer and I use a mascara that doesn't smudge.
When I was younger I always used MAC or Laura Mercier primers which worked all day, but these are obviously outside the £10 price range - worth it for me when I was too busy to check my makeup though.

I use Look Fabulous Forever face primer which is transparent but it’s not cheap. Whoever would want something white? Shades of Elizabeth I!

Having worked for years as beauty consultant there are many cheaper versions that are just as good . Boots no7 are good value as is L’Oréal. And as for mascaras I’ve tried so many and always go back just recently to a new one from Avon

Can anyone recommend an eye primer please.I have Beauty Pie and find it very drying and settles into lines.

So did I! I always use Dulux!

Maybe a quick splash of Dulux paint primer would cover up my wrinkles nicely.....it's the setting bit that would worry me grin

I agree I always use No 7 primer and very happy. For my nose area and only when using makeup I use the benefit pore primer

What are primers over there?

Here in Canada it is a liquid one would apply to a wall or fence before painting it.

Thank you GSM.Will certainly try that one.

NYX pore primer - approx £10 - brilliant. Blurs imperfections and wrinkles - a lovely smooth finish. Have been using for ages - Boots and Superdrug and online

I bought one on Amazon by a company called Altruist, it has a SPF 50 and is £9.50. I bought it specifically for the factor 50.

I said earlier I tried this but although it says 35 ml on the container I soon went through it and I only use a tiny bit GSM. Now using Avon Hydrating Primer and it’s about £5 and really nice.

I use Elf Poreless Putty
www.elfcosmetics.co.uk/poreless-putty-primer/85912.html

Or I use Rimmel BB with built-in primer and other built-in goodies
www.rimmellondon.com/en-au/face/foundations/bb-cream

I find the LFF primer lasts a good while Primrose. I just use two tiny pea sized blobs to cover face and neck.

Redhead56 I too used to buy Gosh products in store. I order online. Great service, very helpful if any issues.

I did think painting walls when I first looked I must admit.! When I was younger I used to wear various sorts of makeup, high heels for dancing , and nail varnish etc. Still admire some of the rather lovely nail paintings I would call them rather than varnish, but do wonder at the cost of them all when things are quite tough at the moment. If they give people confidence and pleasure it is probably worth it for them. My hair is really white now and as I go swimming I just get a good cut and leave it at that . Dont think I could do much weeding if my nails were painted so I can admire these on others and know I am saving my money by not colouring my hair or anything. Hope they find what they want. With friends years ago we used to occasionally get together and swap things but now with the covid situation probably even nail polish is no longer swapped about.

Oh gosh - I don’t use a primer. Moisturiser followed by tinted moisturiser 😂
