Of course a man may intervene. No one would suggest a man would need to wear a weird outfit to look sexy.

Books we loved when we were young
My heart sank when I saw the headline “Dame Prue Leith sexed -up”
Dame Prue Leith has been “sexed up” to walk the runway in a latex dress for avant-garde eco-designers Vin + Omi
The Bake Off judge, 84, appeared in the duo’s 20th anniversary show, Moxie, in Kensington as part of London Fashion Week wearing a black latex dress with red stitching and matching evening gloves
Speaking before the show, Omi told The Telegraph: “You’re going to see Prue Leith like you’ve never seen her before, not in your wildest dreams.
“. Even her husband doesn’t know what she’s wearing, he’s going to be shocked but he’s going to love it. We’re gonna sex her up. “
He added that Dame Prue, a close friend of the pair, is “game for anything “
Laying my cards on the table
1) I don’t think black latex is “sexy” - I think it looks tarty and that is NOT the same thing
2) black and scarlet are such an unimaginative and hackneyed combination if looking glamorous is the intention
3) with trainers?
4) I think Prue Leith has her own, colourful style. I love the big glasses, the bold necklaces and adventurous colours - she generally looks fantastic.
“Sexed up” is not her style and it depresses me that yet another man seems to equate looking sexy with looking attractive.
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Dare a man intervene?
There are two separate questions here, one specific and one general. Specifically, I expect Prue Leith thought it was a huge joke, and I suppose it might look sexy to followers of the Marquis de Sade.
On the more general question, as I approach my mid eighties, I would love to look sexy, but I'm a realist! And what could I do if I did?Pierce Brosnan at 71 and getting better all the time!
By his mid 80’s he should be hot, hot, hot!
😁
Can't wait to see his interpretation of Ron in the Thursday Murder Club film!

If you look on Alamy stock photos, it’s clear that the designers who came up with Prue’s dress are dressing men in equally weird outfits - fluffy man nappies anyone? They are called Vin &Omi if anybody wants to have their design preconceptions challenged.

I can’t find any of those which claim lacing an old man up in a cockroach outfit makes him look sexy.
Personally I’d rather be sexed up than dressed in a furry nappy as I’ve got a good idea of which looks most ridiculous to me Mollygo, but each to their own.
This article appeared on line this morning explaining her motive. Good for her!

Eye of the beholder and all that, David, but I see where you're coming from. Nice one.
I deliberately posted that photo of Tina Turner because there is nothing vulgar about it, she’s wearing exactly what our teenaged granddaughters wear, she has aged well, so has Dolly Parton. As others have said men too, plenty take care of themselves and look good well into their 80s, just wear what suits you and smile.
Or wear something that makes you look like a cockroach, and have a good laugh.
Well done Pru.
Strutting your stuff , having fun and ignoring the naysayers
Interesting article.

I still can’t find any images that claim that lacing an old man up like a cockroach makes him look sexy.
Now, if we talking ridiculous. . .
But as you say- each to their own
Thank you Marydoll and Allira for owning up about the feet situation. Gone are the days of heels and smart shoes alas.
My favourite shoes in my late teens were sling backs green at the front with a black heel. I also had some with a strap around the ankle, that is of course before I got horrid fat ankles like I have now, well actually just one fat ankle.
Sorry as always I have gone off track.
That’s a interesting article about it, Shysal - made me look at it differently. And PL said - Why did I do it? Because I adore the designers. The whole business is about helping organisations go zero carbon. The latex for my dress came from a rubber plantation and factory that they worked with for 12 years to change their practices. The clothes from their previous show was a collaboration with King Charles using fabrics made from plants grown in the royal gardens (my dress was made from willow bark). They are now on public exhibition at Sandringham. But most of all, I did it because, why not? Never say no, is my motto
I'd wear those if I was paid a tidy sun for taking to the catwalk.
I'm 83 and always well turned out, always have been.
While I don’t think this is a good look on her or anyone else for that matter. Good on her. Just because you are in your later years why shouldn’t she if she wants to do it. I like the lady. I’m sure she had fun. I’d of done the same if I was lucky enough to reach 84. Shows she’s got a bit of spirit
It was just for fun I didn’t think she looked great though! Leather jacket yes but that’s as far as I’d go.
Does it matter? She got paid for it.
Not for me…
Fashionable older ladies. Esme on Sewing Bee. She’s so cool and clothes to die for.
I’d never have recognised her - good on her for being up for it!
At no age, have I ever wanted to look or be called "sexy"!
Fashionable, well-dressed, beautiful (never really likely to happen, Sesirable (had to wait for it, but DH found me so), but I would have been insulted if anyone had said I was sexy - they might as well have said vulgar.
That said, each to her own. Apparently, the freedom every age group had to dress as they liked is a long gone feature of the 1970s.
Now that I find sad - why this policing of other women's clothes again? If we continue in this way, we will all end up in crinolines and "unmentionables" instead of underpants, or in burqas! Or twin sets, pearls and costumes as tailored skirts and jackets were called in Scotland anno 1955.
Sorry hit post message instead of preview, should have been desirable
AreWeThereYet
To be honest I think there is a misunderstanding here - the designers say they are going to 'sex her up' which means make her look more interesting and exciting. They don't say they are making her look sexy.
They made her look interesting enough to get everyone talking anyway.
Spot on AreWeThereYet. The use and meaning of language changes too overtime. We are so lucky to be getting older at a time when life gives us far more choices and doesn’t pigeon hole us so much. Prue Leith is taking advantage of the opportunities that have come from her higher profile and I’m pleased to see this. Whether or not we like the look, we might celebrate the fun of seeing her do something so different.
As you say....she looks lovely in what she wears , very coordinated. But this outfit is ridiculous.

I agree it’s a ridiculous and unwearable outfit - but it’s got people here, and elsewhere, talking - particularly about the provenance of the materials and so on. Prue had fun / we (some of us!) had fun seeing it…..life’s short - enjoy!
It's just a bit of fun, don't suppose for a minute she'd be wearing it to go to the supermarket.
