Desperate for a good foundation

I'm 74 and have let my skincare go to the dogs in the last couple of years. Now I look like something dug up in Pompeii. I have a couple of age spots and some red patches and all over very dry skin. Anybody recommend a nice foundation? Not matte, I'm matte enough on my own smile

This made me chuckle. I’m sure you’re not that bad. 😂
Why don’t you treat yourself to a facial with a recommended professional therapist? She would be able to advise you on your skin type and the cleansing routine to suit you, as well as the foundation. The products do not have to be overly expensive.

Do you moisturise? I use rosehip oil on my skin. It's light, easily absorbed, and helps with drness, redness and age spots. I use Boots Perfectly Flawless, although in matte, as I found the non matte one just slid off my skin.

Patsy that is on my list of things to do, I've found a local beauty salon place here so I could pop in there. TY.
Gotellthebees I used to like L'occitane and Dior face creams but just stopped. Wee bit wary of throwing loads of gunk on the face now and it erupting in protest smile

I use the Trinny BFF it’s amazing.

I like Laura Geller - it’s available online and is designed for mature skin. There are always 50% off deals, so sign up for their emails before you buy anything, and you’ll be sent a deal very quickly.

Clarins makes a face cream that is supposed to get rid of age spots. I used to use it but it's more expensive.
Then I use Clinique Even Better foundation.

Always use a facial suncream if going out in the sun (Factor 50).

Thanks ladies, noting all of these and going to read up on them.

I've used Clarins MultiActiv Day Cream for years; my 'age spot' doesn't seem to have got worse but I do avoid too much sun.

I thought this was going to be about bras and corsets!

Address the dry skin first.
Think ordinary Nivea is brilliant and review what you are cleaning with.
Do you use soap?

Yes have been using soap and realise that won't help. So now switching to cleanser if I can find a decent and cheapish one.

I use Clinique CC cream it covers a multitude of sins, is light and not too matt.

I must be the only person who has never used foundation, am I missing something?

Perhaps get the age spots checked out next time you see the doctor.
Also I like L'Oréal age perfect rosy glow as it's. moisturiser with a slight tint to it.

Go into John Lewis and try on a few.
Tell the counter staff what you are doing and if it's the one for you, you will be back. They might have a sample to try at home.
I can't use Clinique, drys my face out terribly. I use a couple of different brands depending where I'm going and if it's Day or Evening, also depending on time of year and cover I need. So you need to experiment with cover and brands.

Try Eucerin products to even out skin tone and help with sun spots. I think you'll find their products are good quality. A good moisturiser might help.

I'd have a look at Charlotte Tilbury.

I'm not a makeup person but bought some for a wedding last year and was very impressed.

They do consultations too.

I like the Simple cleanser and face wash, and their eye cream. A little goes a long way.
I buy them from Tesco but I know Boots stock the range as well.

With foundation, as I get older I think less is more. I used to use Max Factor flawless, but found it just filled my wrinkles like polly filler! Now, after moisturising I use a small amount of Nivea tinted day cream. It covers blemishes without being cloying. I’ve only been able to find it on Amazon, and it’s fairly cheap. Then a dab of Max Factor compact foundation to take away any shine. What a time consuming business it all it!

Over the years I have tried many foundations, these days I don’t wear it that often but when I do I use Primark’s Perfect Colour Illuminating Foundation which compares very favorably to expensive brands like NARS. It is around £6

I have also tried many moisturizers and used to favour Olay but since I found Aldi’s Caviar night and day creams I use them. The range has been compared favorably to a very expensive brand.

As you can probably gather I like to save money where I can.
