Two threads today about hairdressers reminds me that I keep meaning to ask on here about tipping. I always feel I should but am never sure how much. I never give less than £5 but if I've spent £80+ for colours etc, it makes it a very expensive visit. The salon is small and friendly and my usual hairdresser is lovely - good chat and useful advice. Do people have a set amount? Or work out a percentage as we sometimes do with restaurant bills? Or not at all? Or does it depend on how pleased you are with the result?!
I stopped tipping years ago when prices got to the ridiculous level. I now pay £42 for a cut and blow dry which although less than some gransnetters here, I think is still a lot. Gransnetters, where are all your cheap hairdressers?! Nobody ever tipped me as a legal secretary - nor did I expect it!
£5 on top of the £55 bill. I wouldn't normally tip the owner of the salon but she was my hairdresser and she then bought the business and don't like to stop. I'm happy with the service.
I very seldom go to a hairdresser, why should you leave a tip when you,ve paid for the hair cut. who tips the postman, delivery driver ect.
I tip the postman at Christmas and the refuse collectors. My hairdresser gets £5 usually but a little more if my bill is higher. Last month she was very excited about her new house on which she was about to complete so I gave her a Dunelm voucher as I'm very fond of her.
I don’t. I haven’t been to the hairdresser since lockdown. I used to pay £50 for cut and blow dry and give a £5 tip. Now I have long hair and more money to spend on other things.
I don’t tip much, certainly not hairdressers. Aussies don’t tip much, we are a tight fisted lot that way. The wages are quite high ,though, unlike America where they rely on tips.
I don’t tip my hairdresser. I’m already paying her to do my hair. She doesn’t tip me for teaching her grandchildren or for running a free computer club that they enjoy, so I reckon we’re quits.
