Wide leg trousers

I have finally bought a pair of wide leg trousers in a lovely soft material , after a lot of humming and debating with myself. I think I like them on me , but at 5’1 I don’t know , are they “me”.
Anyone other petite ladies out there bought them soon,
Also am not sure what to wear on top , do I wear with a little heel or flats. Oh. Decisions Decisions. Thoughts on this welcomed.

I don't usually like them to be honest- probably because my legs used to be quite shapely so it seamed a waste of a "good" feature! grin
... However having tried some on (at last) I have recently bought some linen ones for the summer and have found them to be very comfy - and jolly.
I'm wearing them with a linen sleeveless shirt and they seem fine.

I am not petite but don't see why you can't wear whatever footwear you fancy.

I'm a little over 5' 2" tall and I have started buying wide leg trousers. I have a dressy black pair and 2 pairs of linen summery pairs in navy and green.
I don't think I'll buy any other styles now, I have arthritic knees which are permanently swollen so slim fit trousers are too tight.

Meant to add, I wear flat shoes or boots with mine. I don't possess any heels.

Does it matter, OP? Do youlike them and feel good?
Your opinion is what matters!

I wear quite tight fitting tops with mine, just as I wear loose tops with straight cut trousers. But a loose jacket or open shirt is fine.

I’ve still got wide leg trousers from last time around😄.

So don’t need to buy any. Back then. I wore a closer fitting top to sort of “balance” the look. So a nice sweater or blouse, but nothing flowing as it were.

I am 5'2 and I love wide leg trousers. I wear them with a short top for balance too. Usually a crop top for someone taller sits just right on my waist. I wear flats during the day and a heel if going out on an evening

I remembered the last time wide leg trousers were in fashion and I invariably somehow managed to get one leg wrapped round the other. I will give them a miss in case I fall over.

I wear mine with trainers.

I’ve got some lovely black velvet ones which I wear instead of a long skirt if we go somewhere nice for a meal.

I have just ordered two pairs of wide leg trousers from Sosander. One pair are black jersey with a camel stripe down the outside seam, the others are a light material with an abstract print.

They are due to arrive tomorrow, I am 5’2” I hope they suit me as one pair are for travelling in next week (long haul) and the others I would like to be an alternative to maxi skirts.

I was very surprised when I reluctantly tried a pair on, I’m 5’3” and they actually suited me and were very comfy. I bought a natural linen colour and wear with a short sleeve linen blouse got lots of family compliments. I will probably buy another pair.

Wide leg trousers seem to be being worn alot by women here in France at the moment.
I've noticed they are slightly shorter than usual, not grazing the floor, and they arecl worn with trainers. They look nice with a little knitted cardigan, (not granny style!).

PS French women are the epitome of "petite".

Casdon Thu 29-May-25 07:33:09

I’m on the fence about them, because I find it hard to get the balance right. They look good if you are slim, and have a slim fitting, shorter top, but otherwise I feel like a bag lady. I’ve got a pair of the palazzo style jeans, but I don’t love them, I might try some of the really flowy ones for summer though, they look almost like a skirt. I wore the jeans with boots or brogues, but I haven’t had them on since the winter.

TerriBull Thu 29-May-25 07:40:55

I have several pairs, I'm not particularly tall 5ft 3. I really like them, they appear to have a universal appeal to all age groups at the moment, particularly in the form of jeans. I wear mine with trainers or wedge type sandals in warmer weather.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 29-May-25 07:41:35

Mine are largely jaeger trousers (from the time they were jaeger) and are very well cut. I have a black wool pair with 3 buttons down the pockets - very 1930s which are cut very flatteringly. The others are summer weight - linen I quite like them, although I do prefer a more fitted trouser. But I shall probably wear them this summer if the mood takes. 😊

B….y lucky to have the choice.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 29-May-25 07:42:09

I’m 5’7” btw.

Visgir1 Thu 29-May-25 07:45:03

I have been wearing them for a couple of years now. I love them but you do need tops slightly shorted to balance out the look.
Think most people mix and match styles of jeans /trousers now, depending on the mood and what you're doing.

BlueBelle Thu 29-May-25 07:55:36

I love the very wide leg and the flares and been in them a couple of years at least It was such a relief after thousands of years of skinny ones I was so fed up with them
I always wear with trainers I ve lost height through age and only about 5’ 4 “ now but I feel fine in them and they seem to work with all age groups and types of people
I ve got them in all colours from plain to brightly patterned for the summer

This lady is my YouTube style favourite, she’s really good at explaining what works with different body shapes. This is about wide leg jeans, but applies to trousers as well. Hope it’s helpful.

I’m 5ft 3ins and I don’t like them on me. They look great on others. Trying to get non wide legged trousers is very difficult just now.

foxie48 Thu 29-May-25 08:24:34

Totally agree wide trousers need neat tops and I've also got some wide belts that I use to give me a waist. I've got longer trousers that I wear with boots with a heel, some I wear with trainers or ballerina flats and I've got some ankle grazer length that seem to go with most footwear.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 29-May-25 08:28:41

I’m 5’7” and wear my summer print cropped wide leg trousers (which lie mid calf on me) with my Birks. I like the heft of them - they balance out the look well I think. I just wear a plain tee on top half.
