Wide leg trousers

I have finally bought a pair of wide leg trousers in a lovely soft material , after a lot of humming and debating with myself. I think I like them on me , but at 5’1 I don’t know , are they “me”.
Anyone other petite ladies out there bought them soon,
Also am not sure what to wear on top , do I wear with a little heel or flats. Oh. Decisions Decisions. Thoughts on this welcomed.

I've just come back from my garden centre, whilst other half was filling up the trolley with all manner of plants, with a little help from me before I wandered off inside to their many shopping areas. Very pleased with my purchase of printed cotton Palazzo pants, inspired by this thread. Garden centres, they're the new department stores and supermarkets combined, with cafes and restaurants to boot. What don't they sell? Almost everything

Oh dear, I have just got home from Lakeside Shopping Centre, I have purchased a pair of cropped mid-rise wide leg jeans. As they are cropped they come to the top of my trainers.

DD said they fit perfectly, she also said it seemed odd to see me in them and take some getting used to, as I only wear skinny jeans, knee length fitted shorts or denims along with capri pants.

They were not overly expensive, will see what the DiLs think…

They sound good GG13. It's good to ring the changes!

Oh how I wish I could wear wide-leg trousers but I'm too short & super clumsy! It wouldn't be long before me & the lovely trousers were sprawled upon the floor in an embarrassing heap! 😳

Another one here who buys cropped trousers and they are just the right length for full length on me.

Someone mentioned not liking barrel shaped trousers - I love them too. I have a very thin denim pair (cropped) which I wear with a white broderie anglaise waist length blouse.

I really like the shape and look of the trousers with a pair of tan brogues or neutral loafers.

They’re ok and I do have a patterned wide leg pair, usually wear with a black tee.
For jeans I prefer a straight leg type.

There are definitely wide-legs and wide-legs, not all wide-legs are equal smile. In jeans I go for a mid or high-rise straight or boot cut. I don't have any wide-leg jeans as the inflexibility of the fabric makes them look over exaggerated to me. A wide-leg tailored trouser in a more relaxed fabric is great though.

As I said, it has to be me I dress for, not a passing fashion (no carrot legs although they suit some). I just hope everyone has a much fun as I do.

I’m 5,2 and a size 12 bottoms and 14 tops . 34 E cup boobs and I’ve got two pairs of wide leg jeans . Ecru and denim and I love them , so comfortable. I wear them with trainers , Birkenstocks or Birkenstock clogs . I balance them out with a shorter more fitted jumper , shirt or t shirt . And a shorter length jacket or cardigan . My DD who’s a fashion buyer says I look good and that they suit me . So I’ll take that 👍.
Mine are from Tu at Sainsbury’s in a short length. I did try loads from other stores but they went back .
I’ve also got wide leg linen trousers which I’ve had for years, they have a zip fly and look smart . The ones I’ve seen this year have either an elastic or drawstring waist and just look like a sack of potatoes on me.
So OP go for it.

Tbh I don't like them, and haven't really thought they flattered anyone, petite or tall. But if you like them that's what matters. I always wear dresses, probably other people don't like those.

ViceVersa Fri 30-May-25 14:11:15

I'm not a fan of them in general, I have to admit, but at only 5'2 - short and fat - they would look absolutely ridiculous on me. But hey, if others like them, go ahead and wear them and don't give two hoots what anyone might think!

I look silly in trousers. I am 5 ft 1 inch...dropping weight fast! But l have short legs but a long back. So l could sit next to someone 5 ft 10 and we would be eye to eye...but as soon as l stand up my legs are silly short. So annoying but nothing l can do!!

Blacktabby2 Fri 30-May-25 14:27:59

*Height....not weight ** wish l was losing weight fast!!!

Stillness Fri 30-May-25 14:53:23

If you like them wear them! I’ve concluded that all trouser styles are currently on trend! My daughter in laws wear skinny, wide and others…cropped and full length. I do the same and love that I can choose according to my mood. I’m quite short and not overweight and personally with wide trousers, I think it suits me to have a more fitted top and surprisingly despite having a bit of a tummy, it seems to work. Go for it and enjoy!

Jaxjacky Fri 30-May-25 14:54:40

I prefer a straight leg jean , but like a wider leg linen trouser, I’ve just bought a pair in navy, to be worn with a flowing shirt/cami or a t shirt.
I don’t like cropped trousers for myself, shorts or full length suit me better.
I’m 5’ 11, size 14/16, dependent on the brand.

HowNowBrownCow Fri 30-May-25 15:23:20

I’m tempted to try the soft ones but I have an odd belly since having 4 kids and surgeries, it never went back to flat so I am a bit self conscious. I’m 5’2. However I say wear them with whatever you’re comfortable in for both top and shoes. I am of the opinion that we should be trendsetters rather than follower's. Blaze that trail OP 😊

mabon1 Fri 30-May-25 15:30:37

How wide is wide?

knspol Fri 30-May-25 16:20:21

I have got 4 pairs of these, 2 of them have been in the wardrobe unworn since at least last year. Have finally started wearing them after thinking maybe they weren't for 'mature' ladies in their mid 70's - how silly of me! Really comfy and now getting used to wearing them. I do prefer the look of the longer, floor scraping ones to the shorter ones as not sure what shoes to wear with short ones, nothing seems to look right.

Primrose53 Fri 30-May-25 17:14:23

Some people look great in wide legs but I don’t think I do. I am 5’3” and my legs are nice and slim so I think I look better in narrow trousers. I also love organic cotton crops in warm weather.

My friend looks lovely in wide legs and she is same height as me but our proportions are different.

cornergran Fri 30-May-25 17:31:02

I’ve always shied away from them. Today I ordered a pair. Will I like them? No idea 😂

Momac55 Fri 30-May-25 17:31:25

She never said it mattered, she’s just interested in what others think

Boolya Fri 30-May-25 17:35:09

I have a pair of navy & white striped wide trousers from Joseph Ribkoff. I wear with a white tee and white FitFlops loafers. I too am 5’3” & size 18.

Hil1910 Fri 30-May-25 18:27:32

Bought mine for the first time from M&S’s outlet shop so they weren’t too expensive. Needed a bit of convincing that they looked ok but I’m happy with them now. I tend to wear flat sandals being 5’7” and a T-shirt tucked in at the front.

4allweknow Fri 30-May-25 19:15:21

Been out to the city today hoping to buy two pairs of wide leg trousers for summer. I'm 5'6" but found the length of all the trousers about 6" too long. I then started to look at folk wearing them and most had them trailing on the ground at the back, dirty lines on the edge. Where do I find them with a 27" inside leg?

grannybuy Fri 30-May-25 19:21:41

I have three pairs from some years ago. ( Sometimes it pays to keep things! ) I’m 5’ 1”. Short fitted or boxy tops go well. I might add a cardigan, but definitely not a long one. I wear flat shoes.
