The headgear, I mean.
Today at The Vatican.

The OP asked for comments about her headwear.

Thank you Ziplock. That was indeed what I was asking, placing the OP under the Style and Beauty heading. (Some posters might know that I'm often interested in fashion on here).

To be honest I think the votes come in at 50/50. Personally, I like the soft drape of the voile, but not the spikey leaves.

The image was taken from Tatler.

All of you who call Camilla names seem to forget Diana wasn't the innocent victim. She had several affairs with married men and manipulated the press to her advantage. Charles and Camilla are well suited and happily married. She is good for him

A murder of crows comes to mind -this has nothing to do with my personal feelings about Camilla .
I may not like her - but I wish her well and happy .

To be honest I didn’t really notice it. But I was rather overwhelmed by seeing them all in the Sistine Chapel and the fact that they said so many world leaders want to meet the Pope and that Charles was chosen ahead of them. At a time when religion is causing so much turmoil in the world I found it wonderful that Charles and the Pope wanted to show that different religions could respect each others views. In retrospect I’m not keen on it ( although I would like it under different circumstances, being someone that pretty much lives in black myself). I’ve been avoiding the news most of the time so I was quite moved by the fact that I just happened to turn the tv on as they were showing it.

I think Charles was chosen because he is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith.

He always said he wanted to be Defender of Faiths.

Other world leaders are just leaders of their countries.

Buckie, I don't know if you ever married, but if you did, how would you feel if your husband already had a mistress and you were there to produce heirs, she was very young and in love and the perfect candidate. She found out too late and would still be there either Charles if she wouldn't play the game. She was a lamb to the disgusted. Camilla was party to this. Why wouldn't she seek out male company? She was damaged by it all. Charles got what he needed, his sons, his mistress. Diana wasn't important, just keep quiet. I can see now he and Camilla are ideally suited and I don't wish them harm, but it cost Diana and her sons.
It's history now.
No, I don't like the hat, thought it was bad taste. It looks like a weird black crown or as someone has said a flock of dishevelled crows.

Camilla always was the soul mate to Charles it’s such a shame they weren’t allowed to marry young, everyone would have been so much happier.
So sad that Diana had to endure a husband that loved someone else.

Aveline Fri 24-Oct-25 07:27:06

That headgear looks like a crown of thorns. Not very appropriate.

ronib Fri 24-Oct-25 07:29:07

Very biblical?

GrannyIvy Fri 24-Oct-25 08:03:35

To me it was not quite appropriate more like a fancy dress fairy appearance. Maybe Halloween ish but that’s just my personal opinion.

Kate1949 Fri 24-Oct-25 10:25:27

Well said Allsorts. Oh and the headgear is awful.

yogitree Fri 24-Oct-25 10:33:07

A flutter of crows... I too think it looks halloween-ish!

Diana knew Charle’s story and reputation, he had already courted her sister.

She was young, but desperately wanted to be a Princess.

Yes, Casdon. There's a lovely photo online of the late Jackie Kennedy in a Little Black Dress when she met the Pope in the 1960s. She wore a full length mantilla too, and looked wonderful. Still, she'd have looked good in anything. I think Camilla (oops, sorry HMTQ) is a little too voluptuous to carry off a similar outfit. She seems to have all of her dresses, coats, etc. cut to the same Empire Line pattern, which is flattering to her figure.

Shelflife Fri 24-Oct-25 11:59:04

Have no problem with Camilla but IMO that head gear was beyond dreadful!

Astitchintime Fri 24-Oct-25 12:09:35

Mr A said that he heard on the news last evening that Queen Camilla was given the headwear by Vatican staff………of course he could have misheard, human being that he is and doesn’t claim to be perfect in any way…….and I was only half listening to the news as I was crocheting poppies. He might be right…….he might be wrong……..doesn’t matter one jot……The King and Queen were with the Pope and that’s all that matters to us.

twinnytwin Fri 24-Oct-25 12:38:40

I think Camilla looked just fine. The King and Pope praying together was wonderful, a historical event, bringing religions together.

Bukkie Fri 24-Oct-25 13:12:35

I am not saying Diana wasn't treated badly but she wasn't the innocent victim her supporters make her out to be. My friend is a Diana superfan and therefore a Camilla hater. She was genuinely shocked when I told her about Diana's many affairs. As the saying goes, "two wrongs don't make a right." I think if Charles had married Camilla, Diana would have married someone else and still be alive today. It's sad all around that Charles and Diana's relationship was doomed from the start.

friendlygingercat Fri 24-Oct-25 13:40:19

I dont think this was Camilla's best look. I dont see any need to be nasty about it. We all have our "bad hair" days.

It reminds me of the headdress she wore for her wedding which was by Philip Treacy. I thought the leaves were overdone She would have been better with a veil attached to a plain covered headband to stop it slipping off. I recall QEII visiing a pope years ago (cannot remember which one as she met 5 popes) but she wore a full length black gown and lace veil with a riara and looked very stately. Tiaras for day wear have unfortunately gone out of style now (except for weddings)

If you look at the other women in the background (and Mrs Zelensky when she met the pope) they all wore a short black veil. Wearing black and a mantilla veil are customary for a papal audience. Veils like this used to be required to attend a Catholic mass.

undines Fri 24-Oct-25 13:44:23

A black Crown of Thorns. Tasteless and horrible. Yes, a mantilla would have been the obvious choice

Grantanow Fri 24-Oct-25 13:45:30

Frankly, I don't care. More important things to do.

Grandma2002 Fri 24-Oct-25 13:47:04

I thought she looked fine. The headgear nicely covered her usual flyaway hair.

SparklyGrandma Fri 24-Oct-25 13:47:47

That reminds me RosieandherMaw, are The Pallisers available to watch anywhere, does anyone know?

I thought her head feathers looked fun and added to the occasion.

Happygirl79 Fri 24-Oct-25 13:48:52

I'm not a fan of that head wear. She looks as if she's wearing a crown of thorns at first glance!
