The headgear, I mean.
Today at The Vatican.

I like Camilla but sorry, no 🤦🏼‍♀️
It looks like something you’d wear to the funeral of Julia Caesar

Awful, Petra summed it up well. She's not a woman I have any respect for but the hat is hideous

LaTroisette Fri 24-Oct-25 13:51:01

I'm not a royal fan but I think she always looks good.

ExDancer Fri 24-Oct-25 13:56:16

She should have ditched the black wreath and kept the veil imo, but I'm sure he had advice from people who know about these things. Not a fan.

Twirl49 Fri 24-Oct-25 13:57:22

No way to over the top looked ridiculous

lizzypopbottle Fri 24-Oct-25 13:58:36

I can understand the need for formality but why are the females in both photos up thread, i.e. Queen and Diana, in head to toe black? I think the king's suit was blue in the photo I saw this morning.

AuntieE Fri 24-Oct-25 14:05:05

How absurd. I hope the Pope was amused.

mabon2 Fri 24-Oct-25 14:10:31

Terrible headgear.

Dynawritecat Fri 24-Oct-25 14:15:10

Rather Halloween.

4allweknow Fri 24-Oct-25 14:17:20

Not sure Camilla would have even have like wearing the headgear but the occasion called for something.

Catgrann Fri 24-Oct-25 14:22:29

She wears it well, take what you will from my comment shock

Nana4 Fri 24-Oct-25 14:26:11

Unfortunate choice of headgear in this occasion, devilish … instead of ravishing. Some headgear is very tricky to get right, ask Princess Beatrice….. She is probably still blushing… but she allegedly made a lot of money for charity when she auctioned it. Good for her… and Camilla can wear hers again for Halloween soon! What was she thinking 🤔

Nana4 Fri 24-Oct-25 14:33:49

Comilla’s wedding tiara looked sensational!!

Bambino Fri 24-Oct-25 14:34:46

My immediate thoughts too.

As explained upthread, it is protocol for women who have an audience with the Holy Father to wear all black including a black lace veil.

The only exceptions are Catholic Queens who can get a dispensation to wear all white.

A little out of time, but I don’t mind?

Missiseff Fri 24-Oct-25 14:45:48

I really like her, but not the headband. Too fancy for a meeting with The Pope, but doubt she cares about my opinion.

Jonah Fri 24-Oct-25 14:47:37

No, straight away I did not like the black feathers - not one bit appropriate for such an occasion. Nor was the black tulle veil hanging at the back. Brought to mind the black widow gear. A veil over the head or mantilla worn loosely, would have been much more fitting. Shame, because normally HM the Queen looks good in her headgear. She was obviously advised wrongly this time.

Nanny27 Fri 24-Oct-25 14:48:54

I wasn't over keen on The Queen's head gear to be honest but I really dislike the nasty up thread comments about her. A woman with no formal training who has stepped into her role with courage and grace. I applaud her.

I am not saying Diana wasn't treated badly but she wasn't the innocent victim her supporters make her out to be. My friend is a Diana superfan and therefore a Camilla hater. She was genuinely shocked when I told her about Diana's many affairs. As the saying goes, "two wrongs don't make a right." I think if Charles had married Camilla, Diana would have married someone else and still be alive today. It's sad all around that Charles and Diana's relationship was doomed from the start.

Diana only had affairs because her DH had one. She was so unhappy, wrong she may have been but it wasn’t her fault. Imagine the person you loved was seeking the OW’s company whenever there was a free moment to be had. She looked for company and affection. Moreover, she didn’t seek him out to be a princess, (many a little girl pretends) on the other hand, he spread his oats everywhere.

The hat looked awful.

merlotgran Fri 24-Oct-25 14:53:27

Camilla often wears Philip Treacy creations and they usually fit the bill but I have to say I think four and twenty dead blackbirds have no place on top of her head.

I wonder if she’s having a quiet chuckle? It certainly looks like it.

SiobhanSharpe Fri 24-Oct-25 14:55:25

A bit funereal or perhaps 'Cruella de Ville' in style.
But this is not an opinion on Camilla other than to say it looks quite hard to carry off and I'm not at all sure it suits her.

NannieChicken Fri 24-Oct-25 15:06:06

I think the Queen consort has worn some beautiful hats. However, this one reminded me of a Halloween style hat.

Now ‘four and twenty blackbirds’ have been mentioned, that’s all I can see.

I don’t like it, but perhaps it looked better in real life.

Very witchy and Halloweenish...But I'm really not a fan of Camilla, and we all have our own opinions

Essexgirl145 Fri 24-Oct-25 15:13:41

She's not the Queen, she's Queen consort.
