Has anyone had their eyebrows tattooed , mine are very sparse ,I have them dyed every couple of months but when they fade I am left with very sparse unruly brows. So am thinking of a permanent solution , how long will it last , what’s the upkeep?

Have you had your thyroid checked.

"Hypothyroidism often causes thinning or loss of hair in the outer third of the eyebrows, known as the Sign of Hertoghe or Queen Anne's Sign, due to low thyroid hormone disrupting hair growth cycles, leading to brittle hair and premature shedding, a symptom that typically improves with proper thyroid treatment."

Thanks Lilypops, I have been thinking the very same myself, mine are thinish and mainy grey. Looking at microblading looks better than the original tatooing however I am scared it will look ridiculous, my hair is mainly silver and I am quite pale but would like some definition to my face, evelashes are small too. Interested to read the comments to follow.

My cousin had hers done when she was in her 90 s, she’s now coming up to 100 I m lucky my eyebrows look fine (well they do to me I may be kidding myself) but I ve never done a thing to them, never plucked or coloured or anything else and I m sure if they didn’t look ok, one of my kids would have definitely pointed it out before now 🤣
My grandkids do all sorts of micro blading and what have you, just a waste of money in my eyes, they never look any different when they are done.🤣

I've got hypothyroidism, that can be a factor with sparse eyebrows, although I still have mine although not as thick as I'd like.

I'd be a bit worried that an eyebrow tattoo might not be in the right place, I'd want the perfect arch and if the tattooist got it wrong, well there's no going back. Wonder if they use a template of sorts.

I don’t know anything about tattoos but every time I get my eyebrows shaped and coloured it knocks years off me.

Yes I had mine done 12 months ago.

Fantastic result and they have only faded slightly.

I had my eyebrows microwaved seven years ago because I had lost them completely due to thyroid issues. They were done extremely well. She took great pains to measure me up etc and I was very happy with them. They have faded and I haven't decided if I'll have them redone or not

Mine are due to overplucking in the 60,s. When thin brows were the in thing. , I just wonder whether micro blading or tattooing is the option or to just keep going with the dyeing at the salon. How much do these treatments cost ? Am I worth it 🤣🤣

Lilypops Sun 25-Jan-26 12:11:32

Grandma batty, When you had your eyebrows microwaved!! Did you have to remove them first ?? 🤣

I had mine micro bladed about three years ago. They are beginning to look like they need touching up now. I must make the effort.
My face was measured before starting the micro blading to ensure they looked natural. In fact I think I had been making too much of an arch before. The micro blading looked better.

Eyelash serum works very well on eyebrows.

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Jan-26 13:19:08

Good grief. Micro bladed!!! I have a new phone and I'm still getting to grips with it

This has been discussed on GN at various times. Sorry, i can't do links but if you do a gransnet search on 'microblading' you can view comments from gransnetters. I have had my brows microbladed, but was very careful to research practitioners and obtain recommendations beforehand. I love the shape and colour of my brows and the fact that i don't have to draw them on every day.. They do fade over time, but if you wear factor 50 suncream daily, it will help to reduce fade.

Hi, i had my first microblade session 2 weeks ago....got second one in 2 weeks. So far, so good. It's expensive but a birthday treat and something i have been wanting done for ages but nothing local til now. Basically it's a tattooing of tiny realistic eyebrow hairs that even I can't tell are not real. I have no tattoos by the way! I feel.so much better with definition around my eyes. I'll let you.know how they look after the next session.

The chemicals used to tattoo are carcinogenic.

I have, they last about 18 months before needing a touch up. I have no eyebrows due to an autoimmune disease. I’m so pleased with them.

I had mine done some years ago and they are due to be done again. I highly recommend. It’s quite painful but modern techniques give a very natural result and it’s lovely to be able to forget about them.

Mini2020 Mon 26-Jan-26 13:46:06

Yes I’ve had mine done! Love them. Had a small top up after 18 months! Would recommend! I’m 70 and mine were sparse! Mainly due to plucking them a lot in my teens!

AlpineGranny Mon 26-Jan-26 13:49:23

Had mine microbladed the week before I started chemo and knew I would loose them. Best thing I ever did could only manage the one session (you are meant to have 2) but they lasted over 2 years. Just had them spruced up a bit now. Make sure you go to a reputable place. Really pleased with mine makes such a difference. Good luck.

I have nano brows, still tattooing but don’t go blue/grey like some micro blading do. I had virtually no eyebrows and wanted a natural look which is just what I have . Should last up to two years

Like most of us, I plucked my eyebrows into oblivion back in the 70s. And they never grew back. So now I tattoo my own! Once a week. The product is on Amazon, And it's a decent deal if you don't mind that it comes from China. Plus when you order it you get two tubes instead of one. This lasts me for months. Called Cilrofelr. And yes I spelled it right. I don't know where they come up with these weird names but I totally recommend this product.

I have the opposite problem, but my DIL does semi-permanent ones that do not require needles. She is a qualified phlebotomist and pharmacy tech as well as trained to do this.

She warns that if you want permanent, go to a registered tattooist for safety.

I lost my husband at 57 and due to stress my eyebrows went very sparse, as I think eyebrows are very important and frame the face I decided to have them tattooed….never regretted having it done, they were a bit dark for a few weeks but then they faded and looked great…years on and I’m still happy with them.

Doodles202 Mon 26-Jan-26 13:57:19

I had my eyebrows tattooed about eight years ago and had them topped up about two years ago. They always look fabulous, if I say so myself! Definitely worth the investment.
