Cashmere recommendations please

Sorry, I’ve never bought from Pure. I have some lovely cashmere from John Lewis.

Pure used to be excellent but I believe they were taken over by Woolovers and the yarn seems much thinner. A lot on sale these days is very thin ans does not last. If you can buy from a shop, it is best to feel the item. John Lewis usually have a good selection. I have a twenty year old cardigan bought from Johnstones in Scotland that still looks good but they are expensive.

Thank you both. I will definitely check out John Lewis. Johnstones are sadly out of my price range but they have some beautiful pieces.

I have both Pure and John Lewis cashmere jumpers and both are excellent. I have some older M&S, but the ones they sell now seem to be rather thinner.

I wear Cashmere a lot.. I buy from JL /Boden and occasionally M&S.
Regardless where you buy from they do Pill up, I bought a cheap de-bobber and wizz that around.
Love the feel of Cashmere, I have some jumpers that must be over 15 years old, well worth the extra expensive especially if you look after them

I don't know what your price range is, but I've had some nice cashmere from House of Bruar. But fairly recently so I don't know how it will fare over a few years. Expect to pay 3figures.

I've bought cashmere from Pure within the last 5 years (it was taken over by the Moura Group which also owns Woolovers, in 2020 apparently) It seems thin initially but bulks up a bit when washed. It hasn't pilled and I don't use anything special to wash it with. It goes in the machine on a 'wool' wash with normal non-bio washing powder. It's fine.

John Smedley cashmere was always lovely in the past.
I haven't had one for ages though.
They used to do one blended with silk.
And they have factory/outlet sales every so often.

I really appreciate these pointers. My budget is around £200. I'm pleased that there have been no definite brands to avoid so far and I'm very interested in the Masham market stall which is accessible to me.
The Pure cardigan I'm interested in is a swing style in charcoal grey and I think it costs £155. Thanks again everyone.

Uniqlo have great cashmere which washes very well. It comes in a good choice of colours and is reasonably priced. A great purchase.

Btw I haven't found that Uniqlo cashmere balls up. It does last too .

I buy all my cashmere from Me+Em but at Sale price as the styling is good. Some are 5 years old and I have had to stop buying this year as I reckon, at 82, 20 plus jumpers, in pristine condition, because I carefully wash by hand in cold water, will see me out.
They are high maintenance and you need a cashmere comb but the warmth is wonderful.
I have just given a GD a cardigan and have worrying moments as to how it is fairing.

There is/was a second hand cashmere shop in Masham. Is the market stall anything to do with them?

I have skate been happy with my Uniqlo purchases. I do need something hip length though and find they can be on the short side.
I'm off to check out Me+Em but I have ordered the Pure cardigan already as I love the shade of grey!

John Lewis, or Pure Collection are very good. I 've had a number of their pieces, they wash well and always look good and don't bobble. They are very warm from such a lightweight garment.

Uniqlo used to have some lovely basic lightweight cashmere jumpers and cardigans which lasted ages, machine washed and didn't bobble. Not sure if they still do them though...

I bought a few cashmere jumpers last year from The White Company and M&S. All of them pilled badly and I spent far too much time faffing about with a comb. My old Uniqlo has been the best so far. Current cashmere is even more expensive and I don't want another pile of unwearable and highly expensive jumpers. I have noticed how much thinner the knit is too. Merino for me this year.

I buy my cashmere from "Nearly New Cashmere Co". So far the three pieces I have bought have been immaculate. Husband is currently sitting next to me wearing the cashmere navy crew neck I bought for him. Not much pilling and very comfortable! Very reasonable prices too.

I love cashmere but have a moth problem! Have tried clearing out wardrobes and using anti-moth products to no avail. I tend to wear my husbands holey jumpers to the allotment 🤭. He freezes then vacuum packs them now but if anyone has any practicable advice/tips I’d love to hear them.

By far and away the best quality cashmere is Scottish cashmere which will stay like new for years. I can recommend a business based very near to where I live in North Yorkshire called Nearly New Cashmere which sells re-conditioned cashmeres online for a lot less than you’d pay in the high street and they also have new Scottish cashmere pieces too. I’ve had some fantastic bargains from them. M & S Autograph is good value for money too.

I think whatever cashmere you buy it will pill, even the most expensive - and they can get VERY expensive. As others have said, using a debobbler regularly will do the trick. I use a battery operated one. Although if you have to use it a lot, as I have done, it will, of course, eventually get thinner. I have bought a lot of cashmere from Pure in the past -not recently because changes in the company seem to have resulted in a poorer selection of colours, from my point of view. But I always thought it was quite good cashmere for the price.

I've got 5 of the thin gassato (sp?) swing cardigans from Pure. The black ones (I have 2!) have pilled horribly but the blue, red and grey ones are fine.
My best ones though have been from Brora but they're madly expensive these days and rather stodgy in style. I have a black, 4 ply one from there that is over 20 years old and would still be perfect if I hadn't gone through it at the elbow. I bought some cashmere yarn online and knitted a diamond shape patch for it.
