Standing or sitting?

Put this in tech stuff as a bit of a joke. Having a conversation elsewhere- where many people, both men and women, disagree with me about it being the norm here where I live, and in UK- for men to stand when they pee, rather than sit. So- what are the facts. Only one word needed, either for yourselves dads and grandads, or for all the GN ladies about the men in their lives, be it DHs, fathers, sons, grandsons, etc.

SIT or STAND. In my family here and UK it is defo a STAND.

3yr old sit. All others stand.

Isn't there the old saw that there is only one thing men can do that women can't. Six men can pee in a bucket at the same time. (That assumes that they aim properly in the first place which is not always the case.)

MariClaire Sat 24-Jan-15 05:53:32

Stand of course :-)

glammanana Sat 24-Jan-15 10:59:20

Stand and aim straight grin and learn where the toilet wipes are kept.

I've got a feeling he sits sometimes. Lazy b-----.

Usually stands though.

hildajenniJ Sat 24-Jan-15 11:50:57

They all stand!

In my current job I clean the men's washroom. They have 2 urinals. They must have terrible aim as I usually have to wash the walls at either side. confused

crun Sat 24-Jan-15 12:58:49

If I'm dressed I stand, but if I get up in the night I'll sit so that I don't need to switch the light on. Re: urinals, it's not until you use one wearing shorts that you realise just how much splash back there is. grin

I wish I hadn't read that.

TMI .........yuck!

yogagran Sat 24-Jan-15 13:35:47

I used to put a ping pong ball in the loo to give the boys (both big and small!) something to aim at. It doesn't flush away and can happily stay there all the time. Certainly stops most of the splashing and makes them concentrate on what they're doing.

I shall have to sit down for a while and think about where I stand on this one.

To put a technical angle on the matter, perhaps it's a good question for those still using the X'P' operating 'cistern'.

hildajenniJ Sat 24-Jan-15 15:55:56

Mr. hjj cleans them on my days off. He must need new specs!!! Or is it a man thing.grin

Mishap Sat 24-Jan-15 16:00:54

He stands during the day and sits during the night.

Here's one for the boys for a bit of fun - put the bathroom scales by the loo, stand on them and watch your weight go down as you pee! Caused a riot of laughter when OH and friend tried this (many years ago!) - us girls were downstairs wondering what the heck was going on!

yogagran Sat 24-Jan-15 18:19:38

Isn't it strange that men quite happily pee in company while us girls, who are totally blasé about having our bits and pieces looked at by all and sundry throughout life, generally choose to pee in private confused

The poll placed on the expat Forum here shows about 50/50 split of sitters and standers- but I think it has been rigged and is not representative.
However, I found out yesterday that Muslim men are instructed by an hadith to squat to pee for modesty reasons- rather than 'flount'- which I suppose translates as sitting in modern Europe. Another reason why Motorway and public toilets in FRance always have (and at times only have) the arab toilet in the floor, which is truly hate.

annodomini Sun 25-Jan-15 10:48:12

Not 'always', granjura. In recent years, I have found a number of perfectly modern toilets in 'aires' on French motorways.

Mishap Sun 25-Jan-15 10:51:40

My DDs will pee in front of anyone! They let it all hang out!

granjura Sun 25-Jan-15 11:00:13

I meant always have a mixture of both- Anno, sorry. Some aires only have the arab toilet- but some have both.

Ariadne Sun 25-Jan-15 12:20:35

A poem on the subject - somewhat plagiarised because I couldn't find the one I wanted!

Why so men pee on the floor,
Walls and cistern and the door?
don't they know the mess it makes,
Those nasty, smelly, little lakes?

Why can't they point it straight and true
And make it do what is should do?
But no, they even pee hands free
Which means the floor is like a sea.

The yukkiest thing for me to see
Is a bathroom floor all full of pee.
Why can't they make it in the bowl?
Don't they see there is a hole?

Out in the woods, they think it's cute
to see how far a man can "shoot."
But in the house, it's plain to see
there is a bowl in which you pee!

(It's usually white and kinda round
you hit the water, not the ground.)
Why can't they make it in the bowl?
Is it a problem with control?
