Just that really.

DH’s mobile provider is finishing so has to find a new one.

Lebara looks promising, any thoughts welcome.

I’m with Tesco. I recently upgraded from 2Gb monthly (£7.50 a month) to 30Gb (£11), with no roaming charges in the EU. It’s a lot more than I need but there was nothing on offer between the two when I changed. I’ve always been happy with the service from Tesco Mobile and I’m guaranteed no price increases for 2 years.

BlueBelle

Be very careful with some of the cheap offers on some of the newer named providers
My elderly friend was left for three weeks recently with her account (that her son had set up for her with a named provider I d never heard of ) she was cut off and her son was overseas unavailable and she was housebound, no person to speak to only robots (although it’s advertised as having real people who you could chat to) It really made her ill
She’s now changed to EE and yes it’s more money but still the cost of a coffee a week and she has the security of a shop in town if she’s has any problems She says that alone is worth the extra cost cheapest isn’t always best

I agree that you should do your due diligence but Lebara have been around since 2001.

I have been with Tesco “pay as you go “ for years with 5000 texts , mins of phone calls and I buy for £2.50 extra data to play music in my car through I cloud ( how??) . Or it would be 2 gig plus 1 = 3 otherwise for the £11.50 . Because have had this for years o get free roaming so no plans to change it because of that

GardenofEngland Thu 02-Nov-23 14:42:41

I'm with Lebara 6.99 a month good coverage and can use in Europe for holidays with no roaming charge.

Depends what you want/phone is/signal area. I don't care about the signal charts that they all say etc, our property old, beams, nooks, crannies, wonky, lopsided, (that's the 1900's bit never mind the "slight rebuild" early 1980's.)

I have a doro flip on O2 pay monthly £5, it's enough for me. (Payg on Tesco/O2 is too expensive. I tried it this year and I was paying more. For me £5 is like the car, I might not need it, but it's there!) I've always been On the O2 network since it began as Cellnet, then O2 for several years, then Tesco for the last 10 years and now back to O2.

Saying that, I do have a smartphone (not for calls etc, too heavy and big for my bra,) that runs on 1p and Asda, both payg, but also means that all networks are accessible. It's paired with satnav.

I can't recommend 1p mobile enough! They are excellent! AND, unlike other customer services, they answer messages! (however, data in the house is dodgy! I can put my phone next to mums, she has full coverage, mine is struggling. But, across the fields perfect signal, which is why I joined them to start with, ability to watch a dog On a camera!) Also very helpful!

Asda are more expensive, but it's there if no other signal works.

Mum is on Talk mobile (vodafone) and the amount of data/calls etc for £7.95 is daft, she can't use it, but it's what she wants.

We have broadband but in powercuts, it's gone, so On goes data.

The added bonus for Smarty over Giffgaff is that Smarty supports WiFi calling, provided your phone does too. I had assumed that meant some sort of facetime thing but it means that in normal calling, if your phone can't get a phone signal, it connects over t' Internet. Priceless for me, as there is zero phone signal in my new flat but excellent WiFi.

SynchroSwimmer Thu 02-Nov-23 15:05:55

Smarty - £6 month - very chuffed with it.
Easy dashboard as well - very easy to use

midgey Thu 02-Nov-23 15:13:54

I had been with Giffgaff since I first had a mobile but last year the signal here became so unreliable I swapped to Lebarra. £4.99 a month and absolutely all I need.

PhilJaz Thu 02-Nov-23 15:24:29

First you need to investigate which providers give a good service in your area. What might seem cheap MAY not have a good coverage where you are

frenchie3 Thu 02-Nov-23 15:47:43

I am with Tesco mobile and have been for the past 6 years. I pay £7.50 a month. Have no problems with them. Give them a go, you can always change if you do not like them.

Candelle Thu 02-Nov-23 16:13:00

I am with 'Smarty' who have been very reliable; I have a monthly SIM only contract.

I had a renewal (increase of price) so had a wee haggle as I had seen a better priced advertised for new customers. I had to say that I wanted to leave (true) but they eventually offered me a deal at £5.00 per month with unlimited texts and calls and 4 Gb of data.

There are several good companies with fairly inexpensive plans.

I have a friend who likes iPhones and she pays £60 per month (includes paying for the phone) which seems exorbitant to me!

Grandmama Thu 02-Nov-23 16:47:45

Giff Gaff: I have a basic Nokia that I own and pay £6 a month for my 'Goody bag' of 2GB, unlimited calls and texts, free calls to other Giff Gaff phones. Automatic renewal every month, no contract. Both DDs are on it too.

wildswan16 Thu 02-Nov-23 16:59:09

Another vote for Giffgaff. Simple and straightforward. £6 a month goody bag.

2420mags Thu 02-Nov-23 17:17:27

£6 a month with Giff Gaff which l have found reliable. I have been with them 6/7 years . Also on my second refurbished phone that l bought from them. I recommend this company

2420mags Thu 02-Nov-23 17:20:18

Gosh Giff Gaff should give us grannies a discount with so much support 😍😀

Teebles64 Thu 02-Nov-23 17:24:22

Also recommend lebara. At £4.99 month it is excellent value. Includes Europe roaming as well

lemsip Thu 02-Nov-23 21:04:39

sky mobile. £5 a month unlimited calls and texts.. been with them for 5 years.. started off as £3. I don't use the limited internet on it.

bought simfree phone from argos and inserted the small sim that sky sent.

Dianehillbilly1957 Thu 02-Nov-23 22:47:15

Changed from Vodafone after twenty years, as prices rising. Now been with Lebara for three months, sensible price per month for unlimited, and they tether off of Vodafone mast, so coverage is good.
So far so good

Jennajim Fri 03-Nov-23 06:55:52

Tesco have never let me down(I believe they use the O2 masts),
Always at the end of the line, not that I have had to use them very often. £12 per month with unlimited calls and texts & 30GB (but that was a deal) speak to them personally they are very accommodating.

win Fri 03-Nov-23 12:39:14

EE is now part of BT and we have found them to be excellent £ 10 per month
