Looking to purchase a Kindle for reading purposes only ( NO ADS) bit confused with reviews and would love to hear what works best for you

That sounds acceptable then, MOnica. I'll go back to thinking about updating it. Thanks. smile

henetha Pay an extra £10 or £20 and you can get the ad free one. That is what I have done.

I'm a big fan of Kindles. I have a Kindle Fire and a Paperwhite. Fires are certainly still available JamesandJon33, I bought one for a relative last week . The Kindle Fire can access the Internet and is great for reading in bed (especially if you have a partner) as it is backlit. I don't sleep very well, so often read for an hour or so in the night without disturbing my DH.
The Paperwhite is great for taking on holiday as it has an anti-glare screen. It is a basic book-reader and doesn't have Internet access.
As others have said, you can pay a bit extra to get one without ads, but the ads are just on the home screen when you switch on, are usually for books that I might be interested in, and have never bothered me.

Kindles are brilliant. I'm on my third, a lovely lightweight Paperwhite with a pretty cover. This makes it feel more like a notebook which is comfortable to carry, to hold or easily prop up in bed or even under the bedclothes. Backlit screen, adjustable light source and print size, nothing to disturb another sleeping person.

It's the 'book cover' within which there is every and any book you could want to buy, read, store. Easily re-charged for possibly 12 hours reading by connecting to my laptop. Small enough to fit into any bag or handbag and, somehow, easier to manage I feel than trying to grip a smartphone.

Loading books into my car for a break abroad and hating the thought of reading very slowly in order to make a good book last, I can recall on one trip loading 24 books. Who needs to be transporting 24 books at any one time? With a Kindle, you just download what you need into one small item, and then again and again, wherever you are.

For me it will never ever replace the look, feel, even smell, of a real book. But if you love to read and want the reassurance of always having a book to hand whenever you want it, without worrying about space or storage or extra luggage, a Kindle is a wonderful thing!

I have had Kindles since they first came out and I currently have both a Kindle Fire and a Paperwhite, The Fire is just like an IPad and I use it to send emails, search the Internet and watch movies and TV programmes. I use the Paperwhite to read books and it is ideal for reading in bed as it has a backlight so doesn’t disturb my DH. What I like most is the fact that you can download a sample of a book for free so that you can see if you like it before purchasing the whole book. If you are signed up to Amazon Prime there are lots of free books too. I have never had any ads.

I've been using kindles since they first came out.
The proper kindle is designed to feel like a book, no glare. A kindle fire or kindle app are not the same at all.
I have a kindle paperwhite which I love so much I no longer ever read paper books. It's light to holdbut easy on the eyes. I make the print larger if I'm tired.

Love Kindles. I started with a keyboard model (which still works).
The Paperwhite lasted for ages. I gave it to my husband when he bought me a new one so I could listen to audio books on it too.

My old Kindle ran out of battery charge so had to buy a new one. I paid a little extra and bought the ' no Ads' Kindle Paperwhite. I don't bother with internet while reading. It's been worth it, keeps it's charge well, the backlight is useful as you don't need a bedside light, very light and portable for holidays. As a side note, if you do a search online for something called ' Bookbub' and sign up for their emails. They sometimes have free books or reasonable book offers. Some books may not be so great but others have been good for a holiday read. I do still buy and read physical books though as I miss them and if a book has pictures/photos etc, they don't come up great in Kindle, at least for myself.
